  1. As the layout rebuild continues,a rare shot of platform 1 shows AEC railcar No 111 in UTA blue/cream livery waiting to leave with an all stations to Lisburn service. The year is 1968,with in the background in platforms 2 to 4,both types of BUT railcars and a further AEC railcar are in the new NIR corporate livery of maroon/cream.These railcars, along with the Belfast Corporation red buses will not be everyones cup of tea,but they are a great reminder of my Belfast childhood memories and they are the modes of transport that I travelled regularly on back then.
  2. Correct David, route 16 was indeed Dundonald, with as said,Malone Road being route 71. The model pictured is from the Corgi range so cannot throw any light on the route on the model. It states Malone Road via Stranmillis Road, which would indicate that the bus would veer of the Malone Road unto Stranmillis Road at Queens University and rejoin the Malone Road at the junction opposite Cranmore Park. I am not aware of such a route, unless it was before my time!
  3. Nice job Kieran, you are getting a nice balance of early generation CIE coaches
  4. Thanks for the welcome guys,I am in good company with the Irish layouts you two guys have.
  5. Many thanks,Colm/Andy York/Moderator,for moving the thread to the Irish railways group
  6. Great video Kieran, thanks for sharing
  7. Lovely work Kieran, the paint finish is very good. I have never been a steam fan,but the more I see your work, the more I am warming to them! The GNR loco just tugs at my side of the city's heartstrings
  8. Thanks Colm- a UTA bus depot on your magnificent layout would really look good. With regard the Daimler buses, they are both EFE models, the one on the right is a proper EFE model that can still be found on ebay quite regularly. There is one on just now for a buy it now of £25,but when they show up for bids they don't tend to go much higher than £15-£18.The bus on the left is a repaint I done many years ago before the originals came out and will be repainted with better accuracy. By the way,I know you run the Irish forum on here,is there any way this layout thread could be moved to the Irish section?
  9. Nice job Kieran, good paint finish on both containers and box van
  10. Nice job with the Bullied open wagons,a nice addition to the fleet
  11. A new bus depot is the latest feature to be added to the layout.Below are a couple of photo's of the new depot that will be incorporated into the new town build. A variety of Belfast Corporation buses help cement the Belfast theme to the layout
  12. Nice photo's Kieran,a good atmosphere about them
  13. Nice job Kieran, your loco fleet is expanding at some rate!
  14. Nice job with the AEC Kieran, looks well in the GNR livery. Looks like it's been a wet day in Bangor !
  15. Nice video's Kieran, the coaches and coal wagons look great and the layout scenery is fantastic,I can just picture the early CIE rake passing bye in real life.Good to see your layout thread here, look forward to more updates.
  16. Nice,it really suits the Black and Tan
  17. The trials of Irish railway modelling!!nothing is ever simple, but then I don't think we would have it any other way,it's part of the joy.Good job with the railcars.
  18. A rebuild of the town area has had to be undertaken due to a few problems, with the result the whole area was demolished and the rebuild has commenced.Below is the progress so far, showing the new road bridge, the re-positioning of the streets and a school added. The school is a Bachmann model, but it is quite close looking to the school I used to attend in Belfast, Fane Street secondary,so thought it would be a nice model to incorporate on the layout.
  19. Nice work Kieran, the K15 looks smart, will go well and match in with the AECs a lot better.Nice wagon kits as well,20 mins to build, that is good going.
  20. Nice work Kieran, unusual looking van but a nice build. It may be the camera angle, but is it a shorter coach than a normal Bredin
  21. Great looking ballast wagons Kieran, the weathering really sets them off
  22. Nice work so far with the AECs Kieran, looks like it will be another great addition to Kirley Junction
  23. A couple of photo's taken in 1972,with the DH on ballast duty with the ex spoil wagons,CIE B165 shunting Guinness wagons and some H vans in the yard.
  24. Thanks Kieran and Nelson, much appreciated. Kieran,I found the build not to bad,I took my time with them (3 in total)and really just sanded them on the underside until they sat flush on the chassis.Again, just sanding the various parts to ensure they were all flush (or flush-ish) was worth the effort to make sure the body sat well on the chassis.I actually completed the build over the Christmas holidays, they have been in limbo awaiting painting as I did not know what paint to use.Last week in B & Q, I stumbled across a small tin of duck egg blue gloss, and although I only ever paint my stock matt,it looked ok,so I got it and with the bit of weathering I think they have turned out ok.
