  3. Thanks for those timetables. They will be a great help. Although I wont need headcodes I am intending to run the passenger services to a timetable with freights squeezed in between to make things interesting. Its good to see pretty much all the services I imagined.

As you might imagine, the Summer 1953 WTT will take rather longer to transcribe !  :rtfm:
  4. As posted to the Millers Dale in N pages...

If you want to run authentic head codes and workings, here's the penultimate WTT for passenger trains 1966-67 a year before closure.

Stopping times are bold, else just passing times are shown. What strikes you is how quick trains were between stops despite the line being in its death throws and relatively sparse traffic by this time!

  6. Excellent video! Some great footage that has given me a lovely feel for Millers Dale. The 37 thrashing through there on vans is certainly something my railfreight ones will recreate with a snake of stone hoppers!!!

That was on the famous Westinghouse 1 mile long test train just after the line closed.

Have you got a spare 99 ferry wagons ? :O

  7. Wow, another great bit of film, I'm amazed at the variety of locos on show - far more than I expected - I was expecting 3F, 4F, Crab, 8F and even 9F, but look at all those others, and the different DMUs as well, and a shot of the Blue Pullman!

Thank you, is it your own footage? Can you give me dates when it was shot?

    Cheers,

    Al.

It was posted on the Bakewell of Yesteryear Facebook page - sadly I don't have any more details.

  8. Hi Al

More fine modelling going on I see, station buildings looking really good.

Incidentally, I saw your post on "Millersdale" about blue peaks not going through Bakewell. I was of the same opinion until I just found this photo of a train leaving Haddon tunnel. All I can say this must have been extremely late on.

Check out the final picture in the gallery on the link below:

Glynn Waite of the Rowsley Association advises:-

"The very last passenger train was 1H18 16.20 St. Pancras to Manchester Piccadilly on Saturday 29th June 1968. This train left Matlock approximately 20 minutes late at 19.35 hauled by D80 [in blue livery] with 8 coaches and a van. Relief signalman Herbert Taylor, who worked the last shift at Church Lane Crossing, recorded that the train past his box at 19.39"

Herbert took the above photograph which is published in Rowsley - A Rural Railway Centre - now available at a bargain price !

  9. And here's a larger version showing Willenhall station, showing the type of station features showed more clearly.

The names displayed around the plans show from whom land was purchased in order to build the railway line. The numbers in a circle are the 'deed number' so the original sale deeds could be identified and retrieved for later inspection from the repository.

2 Chain Line Plans are true works of art, regardless of the location !

  10. The station accommodation (plus locations of gradient posts, mileposts, signals, etc. will be on the 2 chains to 1" Line Plan. I have a copy somewhere which I'll scan for you.

2 Chain Line Plans are a boon for modellers wishing to explore a prototype in detail.

Here's an example of such a beast for Whatstandwell showing the railway furniture locations and station building accommodation...
