There are shots of a class 29 in Diesels & Electrics on 35mm Vol 1.

Very true but *all* the “....on 35mm” productions were over dubbed with library recordings - the proprietor of Video 125 (who produced them) told me so at Warley several years ago.

BTF films were full of sound bloopers - “Points and Aspects” has Maybach powered 20s (and a 47!) at Carstairs, ”Merry go Round” has a class 56 sat whistling to itself to name but 2 examples!

The engine is only one part, the turbo makes a huge (and often more significant) difference to how a loco sounds as does the exhaust fitted.

    indeed

this is what a class 40 sounds like if you don’t factor in the turbo and exhaust.

  3. Sorry for intruding the party and not going through 87 pages of posts but if I order a vanilla version, how easy a task is it to retro fit sound / super cap please ?

For the Kernow Southern triplets it's just a case of fitting the chip as the speaker is installed regardless of which configuration you order.

    Thanks

    Glad to help - we are now down to the last 1 or 2 copies of Midland Records Nos. 1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13 & 14.
(Plenty of No. 26 and Nos. 29-35).

All other issues have now sold out!

Delete Nos. 5 & 9 from the above!

    We now have only 1 or 2 copies left of Midland Record Nos. 1, 2, 8, 11, 12, 13 & 14

Remember these are brand new and free UK P&P.

Does anyone know where I can find some footage of the Ambergate to Chinley line?  I'm particularly interested in the section between Rowsley and Buxton but the few dvds I've looked at completely miss out the Wye Valley.

Are there any good BFI films with this railway?

Forward to First Principles (1963) is the go to film for Derbyshire footage including a view from the cab of Type 4 near Bakewell and Great Longstone  - albeit too brief!

However the LMS publicity department was one of the foremost producer of marketing films of the big 4 in the 1930s. The Southern (which provided many staff for the BTF unit) was the only other producer of note.

Here’s a brief clip from “Passenger Trains of the LMS” (1936)...

  6. All Midland Railway enthusiasts may wish to know that the Midland Railway Society now has an eBay store where over 60 issues of its celebrated journal, plus books, occasional publications and the last surviving stocks of the superb Wild Swan produced 'Midland Record' may be purchased with FREE UK postage and packing (overseas rates on application).

The Society purchased all remaining stocks of Midland Record from Wild Swan and they have been selling like hot cakes since we listed them with several issues selling out - time to plug the gaps in your collections while you can!

Just took a look at my spare 31 chassis that I obtained as an insurance policy. If a like-for-like chassis block was needed it is quite complex shape, something simpler to just allow parts to be transplanted, but not trying to replicate the Hornby chassis block, could be simpler. I guess the question is, how many people would want a direct replacement that looked identical v those that are happy to have something functional but not identical.

It would be nice if somebody like Peter's Spares could persuade Hornby to order a set of replacement chassis blocks when they next do a run of 31s.

As I said several pages ago - I can produce replacements in Brass (denser than Mazak too!) if somebody can get a set of drawings to me!

  8. I Fully agree (Mr Stovepipe).

The class 40 looks so much better when wearing Disc headcodes.

I have mentioned before on this forum that my ultimate "wish list" would be to see Sutton Loco Works produce a class 40.

Although when I spoke to TMC, they mentioned that they have a class 40 from Bachmann in the pipeline, which will be in Blue, unweathered, and with discs.

    Let us pray !!!

I’m hoping for SLW or now an accurascale version.

Or anything where the multiple working plugs are in 4mm scale and not 7 :-)
