  1. Some information to help with your branch line: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbroath_and_Forfar_Railway https://www.railscot.co.uk/companies/A/Arbroath_and_Forfar_Railway/ http://www.monikie.org.uk/DundeetoForfarRailway.htm Best Scott.
  2. By a quirk of fate, that branchline entering the helix isn't fictional. Although the junction was further North from Arbroath, there was a line which ran to Forfar from St Viggeans Junction. It has long since been removed in the real world, but it would give some credibility to your layout if you imagined it was still extant. Best Scott.
  3. Absolutely correct , Phil. Equally, however, it is annoying and belittling to be told there is something wrong with buying rather than building. Tolerance should be universal. Best Scott.
  4. Actually, Andy, I apologise. I've just seen a thread in the Gold Lounge, relating to this. I didn't realise the situation. So, as you were. I thought it was something I was missing. As far as I'm concerned, there is no hurry. Best Scott.
  5. I really liked Andy's concept for the Isle of Man system as it's something I have in mind for a (still far off) retirement layout, in HOm. A couple of ideas I hadn't thought of, so much thanks for that. Best Scott. PS. I access through the Gold membership route, online. I was trying to find the extra pictures of Upham. I can watch the video, via the front cover, but can't see the extra photos. Are they just available via the digital download, or have I missed it online?
  6. Sorry for being so late to the party. Aside from the high standard of modelling in general, there were a couple of things in particular that i really like about your railway, and it's to do with operation: 1) It's good to see a locomotive pause a short distance from the carriage prior to slowly easing up to couple, and 2) It's good to see someone using the sound on the locomotive properly. So many modelers would have had the auto train chuffing continuously from the the off, but you eased off the steam as the train negotiated the pointwork (presumably to keep the speed in check) before opening up again when safely through. Delightful stuff. More, I say! Best Scott.
  7. From Hattons site: 1 x Mk3a FO, 1 x Mk3a RFM and 1 x Mk3a SLEP in BR maroon and 1 x Mk3 DVT in DB silver
  8. I don't know about the what happened to the passenger accommodation stock post Strathmore, but from Perth it formed a stopping service to Buchanan Street, following the postal most of the way, and not to Edinburgh. From memory, the postal section was as you say; Dundee, Perth, Carstairs post Strathmore. Best Scott.
  9. Thanks, Robert, it's the N gauge I model. And I went for a water column too in the end... Best Scott.
  10. That's an interesting arrangement for Wootton Bassett. I see the siding (with loop) was just off the main line, pointing (obviously) toward London, and then obviously carries on into the dairy buildings proper on the other side of of the covered cutting. That would make a very interesting model.
  11. I bought one of the bridges yesterday to see what like. I will report back when received. Best Scott.
  12. That really does look fantastic, Anthony. A great job with the pencils too. Best Scott.
  13. Outstanding! The only thing I'd comment on is that you might want to run a red or grey pencil over the edge of the brick paper forming the arch: But, other than that, Outstanding.
  14. Like this: https://flic.kr/p/S8g4R9 It looks like none of the batch of Farish Maroon BSKs had the yellow line, but the green and the blue/grey did... Best Scott.
  15. Without wishing to take sides, how about this ?: "Boss we scanned the peak, and here's the CAD" "Him, it doesn't look right here, here and here.." "Okay, I'll take another look" later "Okay boss, here's where we are" "hmm, okay, that front end still doesn't look right.!" "yes, I know, but we can't get the material we use to go to the required thin-nis/angle/shape that would improve it, without throwing something else out" "Okay, can we use something else?" "Sure, but that costs three times as much, and will add £50 onto the model cost" "Okay, well I can't see that being an option, it takes it out of our target price bracket. Do the best you can with what we have. Now there's something about the curve of the roof and that door line." "Yes the laserscan doesn't do curves very well when there's a lot of reflection from the sun and stuff, so we've really had to do that manually. It's a problem, because we don't have the real machine in front of us we're kind of working from photographs from different angles. It's tricky. But I asked Dave and he took a look and he says it looks pretty good." "hmm, I'm not sure. If you look at this photograph..." "Yes, I know what you mean, but look at this photograph and this drawing." "Yes it looks different. But that's an original works drawing, so I'm not sure we can take that as gospel." "I know." "The thing is the slot we've got for this, the CAD needs to be complete by tomorrow" "Okay, so what do we do?" "We do the best we can, with what we've got." "But I'd really like to get this 100% correct" "Yep, me too but we have to deliver this within a timescale and within a budget, we could spend a year on the CAD, but your time designing this isn't free, you're a cost. The more we spend on you doing this, the more gets added to the model price." and on.... I'm not suggest it's what happens, I'm not suggesting it's right if it does happen, but this type of thing might account for at least some of the common areas where errors are found. Or maybe not. Just thinking out loud. Best Scott.
  16. Yeah probably. I'm not convinced the matchmaking to equivalent abilities actually happens or works as it's intended, to be fair, but that's maybe just a reflection on my lack of abilities or lack of willingness to integrate into an "everyone for oneself" online "team" culture. That said, I've been matched with FIFA players who were way above my capabilities on a regular basis, to the extent I've ceased even playing online, so I don't know. I'm certainly no conspiracy theorist, so I suppose the system obviously works sufficiently for the publishers to persist with it or it wouldn't still exist; so they can't be losing too many players; and I'm just a dinosaur that needs to find other interests. RDR2 single player is an absolute boon to me. Working at my own pace, being immersed in it and learning a few things along the way to boot. So maybe I will just stick to that kind of thing. and TSW. and Uncharted. Unfortunately, as creative as TLOU1 was, it actually gave me nightmares ("click-click") to the extent I've never finished it, so I can't see me entertaining Mk2. Apologies, we've drifted from the point slightly. Best Scott.
  17. Absolutely I don't disagree, but the removal of loot boxes won't solve the "Richest person wins" problem I'm talking about, if they just change it to say "£10 gets you double cannon power for 30 days" or some such ilk. (I maybe exaggerate, but you know what I mean). It removes the gambling issue, but it doesn't remove the lack of level playing field issue. best Scott.
  18. Thanks, that's interesting and I suppose tentatively encouraging. I wasn't aware of those rulings. I wonder how that affects us in the future though, the publishers will want to recoup that lost revenue from "loot boxes" et al, in much the same way banks started charging for other things once Credit Card charges, etc, were outlawed. Best Scott.
  19. On another note, I downloaded Battlefront 2 last night since a) it's one of this month's free offerings and b) it has a single player campaign which apparently has a decent story, to boot (although different reviews...well, differ.) I've since become aware of a DLC for the campaign that was released in December, "Resurrection" I believe. However, I can't find it in the PS store. Was it not released onto PS4, or have sonny removed it? I understand it was a free DL. Best Scott.
  20. I hope you're right, but that's certainly not how it works in EA's FIFA 20... Best Scott.
  21. This from You tube: Viewing the trailer in the second part of this, my concern is that as with everything else these days, you'll be able to buy your way to modding your spacecraft to a higher spec. Richest guy wins...
  22. I do like the way you've dealt with the platform surfaces. I think I may be borrowing that.. I'm guessing you'd be able to scribe concrete flagstones in the top when it is dry as well, if so desired. And masochistically inclined... Best Scott.
  23. A big thank you to everyone, that's all a huge help. @Flyingpig the passenger platform at St Cyrus didn't have a passing loop, the nearest loop being at Lauriston a couple of miles down the line. I appreciate however, that since I've turned it into a terminus and added a passenger run round loop, the one in the yard is superfluous. With that in mind I've changed the set up to two sidings in the yard rather than the loop. I'm now in two minds about the headshunt as both here and elsewhere there has been almost equal calls for and against. That said, it is a simple way of providing a trap for the yard (particularly in N gauge) so I may just include it after all. Thank you again to everyone; that's given me plenty to think about and work with. Best Scott.
  24. Thanks, that's very helpful. Since posting the above drawing I have indeed added a headshunt to the yard. And yes it is freelance, although operated by BR. Thanks again Best Scott.
  25. I've just realised that I've driven over this more than few times on Train Simulator World. I shall need to pay more attention next time! Best Scott.
