  1. Dawlish Gazette today. News Celebration plan for railway’s reopening Wednesday, 12 March 2014 by Ellen Grindley PLANS are being put together to celebrate the reopening of the railway line at Dawlish. Exact details are still being arranged but suggestions already being looked into include using a steam train as the first train to travel along the repaired line, carrying dignitaries and ‘celebrities’ although names are yet to be confirmed. The event on Friday, April 4, will mark the completion of extensive repairs after the two storms which breached the line. The Gazette understands a senior member of the government is likely to be on board, possibly the Prime Minister. Email: ellengrindley@tindlenews.co.uk
  2. I am surprised that the Goodwin Sands still exist. In the late 80's when Dover Harbour were filling in the old submarine pens they pumped thousands of tons of sand from the Goodwin to fill in the pen area.
  3. CK were you in Teignmouth station car park at lunchtime today? A whisper today in Dawlish was that trains wont stop at Dawlish until August, through trains only. Seems a bit crazy to me but ........... LE
  4. No doubt when he appears on Desert Island Disc, some of his selection will be, Down Down, Slip Sliding Away and You Aint Seen Nothing Yet!
  5. I hope the sea disposes it well. I walked along the beach from Teignmouth to Sprey Point (as far as we are allowed to walk at present) today at low water. The sand has been built up quite heavily in some areas against the wall. 2 of the steps that lead down from the sea wall to the beach have hand rails that now disappear into the sand.
  6. [quote name="Catkins" post="1383383" timestamp="1394910420" Does anyone know of any A4 names that were planned, but never used? I am sure that I read somewhere back in the 60's that they were considering; Dot Com Floppy Drive Compact Disc Bluetooth RAM Intel Inside New Labour Woteva I am not sure if I'll Get My Coat was planned also.
  7. If only they had the benefit of hindsight. Teignmouth station has only recently been repainted. A much better job could have been done during the closure since Feb 4th.
  8. It's funny reading on a website where some people find it hyper critical to point out that you have 1 rivet too few, we are calling pre-formed re-inforced concrete shapes L shapes and that the spider thingy is performing. We must keep up this light heartedness. It is refreshing.
  9. It says about viewing in itunes. Is this a better or lesser alternative?
  10. Not having purchased any emags before, I guess I can I print articles if I need a hard copy. Is that correct?

  12. Brilliant. This tanker was emptying the septic tank at work!
  13. Shed loads of timber waiting to be transported from Teigngrace.
  14. Olddudders, I guess the above will translate to de sea cisions, de sea cisions!
  15. I am sure that in the past skin has been used for making a variety of odd things. Maybe you can dry it and use it as glazing in models. A bit opaque but hey, its personal.
  16. CKhow high will the L shaped stone clad wall be from the seaward? Will it be higher than the wall was? Dawlish town was full of people yesterday afternoon. My colleague commented on the masses and it was obvious that they were 'promenading' around the town and 'lawn' instead of the usual beach and sea wall. LE
  17. Iain, That would be a case of learning to live with pain. Similarly I have been told to avoid wine and spicy food because of reflux, but the pleasure out weighs the pain. LE
  18. (Pythonesquqe) obviously the Clapotis! I rather meant any physical signs of damage and in particular the comparison compared to the wall at Dawlish. I understand wave power etc but the physical damage inflicted on the sea wall has been minimal in comparison with other times. I realise that the wind direction, sea strength etc etc all combine to create various and different conditions in different geographical areas. Along the main beach the sand has been built up, whereas in past times it has been scoured away. In the past I have seen the wall past Sprey Point where it has been undercut where the sand has been scoured away and holes exposed in the stonework at the base of the wall.
  19. At the Teignmouth sea wall, most of the damage done to the sea wall has been to the top. At the start of the sea wall, the damage was to the edging granite stones at the very top of the wall. Hardly any damage to any other areas. Along by Sprey Point the damage there was concentrated on the incline that leads from Sprey Point down towards the beach on the Teignmouth side.
