  1. Not hugely. I took them over the rail and just ran a Stanley (with a fresh blade) down the sleepers. I drew a line on the baseboard and literally held them in place as the glue dried.
  2. You know me Ray, I don't plan! I like the challenges that appear as I build.
  3. Funny you mention Langley, as I did browse their page in my search for a crane.
  4. I haven't added the cables yet. It won't be at that angle once it is finished. I do agree. The tracks should be closer to the edge. I did contemplate modifying the board to bring the track closer. I shall think about it a bit more.
  5. The obvious and quick fix is to use the Dapol crane. I have no problem with this plan. Maybe modify the other crane to be a stationary crane.
  6. So the first structures for WHM are arriving in the form of dock cranes. I have bought a Dapol Dockside Crane and a Walthers Gantry Crane. They look very similar and you could easily get away with the Dapol crane. But there is a problem. The board is to be extended width ways to depict the cargo ships and the actual harbor so the cranes need to reach over the edge of the board. Sadly the Walthers crane boom is far too short. And that kit was over double the price of the Dapol kit.
  7. I look forward to seeing Cramdin in the flesh. Massive inspiration when I read the thread on the other place.
  8. Well I had better make it to at least one of the two best all American shows this year!
  9. I am looking forward to this show a great deal.
  10. I won't be doing it again anytime soon! Give him a few years and then try again.
  11. I would also be happy to provide my new build next year if you'll have me?
  12. Looks like a great show as always. Sorry to have missed it. Hoping to attend next year.
  13. I have stalled with my new build, my job is really sapping my free time and my energy of an evening. The layout is looking fantastic Mal. Keep it up.
  14. So I have completed the GRS' Globalrail show and while the show was fantastic, I sadly did not have such a good time. My wife was at work last night, and is working tonight, so I had to take my 2 and half year old soon with me on my own. It should have been easy. He loves trains. I brought plenty of snacks. Within an hour he was hating it. Wanted to run off and touch everything. Sadly the layout wasn't shown off in the best light and I apologise to anyone who wanted to see it. Thanks to the generosity and understanding of the event staff and the other exhibitors we survived. Lesson learned.
  15. I understand your pain Ray. My thoughts are with you and your family.
  16. I'm pretty sure my layout qualifies: Self contained, single board, integrated lighting and it works.
  17. Some great footage just posted on YouTube from the Astolat show...except right at the end...
  18. Thank you, I know they are the devil's work and smell funny, but I'm quite fond of them.
  19. My DS4 is a Stewart Hobbies one, and it doesn't like the curves on Tilley Yard South! So, I naturally prefer the VO-1000. Do it! Build a zebra stripe layout. I'm not at all biased in this suggestion.
  20. It was great to see Much Murkle in the flesh today Nick. Superb modelling.
  21. Well unfortunately the layout was not at the NMRA meet in Crewe due to last minute work commitments, but work have let me out to play this weekend at the Rotarail show in Fareham. Do pop along if you can. It is for charadee!
  22. Up close and personal with Baldwin VO-1000 #2214 and Alco S4 #1526.
