  1. Has anyone done a similar motor swap on the Duke of Gloucester?
  2. Hornby are doing the X9108 for £8 which is about a tenner off! http://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/motor-assembly-5-pole-skew-wound.html
  3. Some more detailed share info here.. http://www.lse.co.uk/SharePrice.asp?shareprice=HRN
  4. Surely the drop in the oil price should be making the plastic cheaper.
  5. Another good use for these models is as spare parts sources for unobtainable Hornby spares. A damaged Coronation that I picked up for a fiver has so far donated the the undercab pipework for a Hornby Duchess and a front coupling hook for a Castle.
  6. until

And an exellent show it was.
  7. Mine runs just perfectly,it's the "posh" one, cannot fault it.It is great at low speed and has a progressive speed build up. I've got an HM 2000+ controller. It would seem there is a problem with quality control on these cheaper motors, most are good, but a significant proportion seem not to be.I think Hornby need to pull their socks up..
  8. A brand new Hornby P2, the detailed one, £102 inc post, right result!
  9. Got my detailed one today, a nice ebay bargain, unused, £102 delivered.Runs a treat,a very imposing piece of kit.Not too sure about the matt paint finish, whilst it looks nice I'm sure the real thing would have been a lot shinier.Very impressed with the new style packaging too.
  10. There is a Flying Scotsman version coming out for the UK http://www.atlaseditions.co.uk/collection/MBO/FlyingScotsman.html?key=29045&addressField[%27Gender%27]=1&addressField[%27LastName%27]=Goodman&addressField[%27FirstName%27]=John&addressField[%27Email%27]=j.d.goodman%40btopenworld.com&utm_source=atlas-editions&utm_medium=emailing&utm_campaign=11B_NEWS&dm_i=103K,2QF5F,4W5X7Z,9YKEC,1
  11. I got a Black 5 today and am very pleased with it.
  12. I have bitten the bullet and bought another 9F, going to redo it as Black Prince,or at least a black one.Another good model with no bad defects (what are they doing right?) Did I mention that the chassis frames and front bogie are metal?.
  13. Running gear sprayed Humbrol satin black and Hornby whistles fitted..
  14. Its all Hornby...my feeble attempt at humour.
  15. Considering that this model is based on the Hornby 9F I thought it would look much better if I fitted a Hornby body, which made a big improvement but showed up the rather crude running gear, so I fitted a Hornby chassis, looks rather nice..
  16. I think the 9F isn't too bad a model, I'm going to paint the undercarriage black, and fit Hornby whistles. I may buy another and paint it black.
  17. I've upgraded a late Margate 9f with RailRoad Body and valve gear/cylinders, its a straight swap.
  18. Was a very good show, well layed out.Highlight for me was the layout with the working container gantry crane and the sight of a one of the new Garratts pulling god knows how many wagons, very impressive..Didn't stay as long as I wanted as had to get to the Watercress Line for their Spring Gala.
  19. Yes, but I'd still rather not have to. All smoke deflectors I've bought before have had the handrails fitted, why the change now?.
  20. That looks great, when I finally get mine I intend to do all you have done exept the repaint. I will also fit 2 part coupling rods off a Britannia. FYI one of the online spares peeps is selling the top of the range models smoke deflectors, trouble is you get them with the holes but no knobs or wire fitted, what is wrong with Hornby for gods sake.
  21. Looks like it's started again..there is ad in latest issue of Giant Warplanes magazine..and website.. http://www.greatbritishlocomotive.co.uk/
  22. The RailRoad version is probably the best bet, most of the differences are paint details which are easily rectified.I don't there are enough differences to justify the 50% price increase for the "detailed" model.
