  4. Fair point. however , were it not for the likes of Dapol making affordable RTR I wouldn't be in O gauge . I can just about manage a wagon but building a £400+ loco kit with my botching abilities is a risk too far and I suspect there are many like me hence why I suspect this will sell and sell well at the risk of straying off topic it would be interesting to know how Heljan and Dapol compare on production size . I also suspect Heljan's reputation preceded them and at an even higher price point questionable design and quality may have deterred many (myself included) . Even at the heavily discounted amount on offer I still can't raise the enthusiasm to buy one
  5. if they don't go well then frankly the hobby is doomed . they should sell like hot cakes given how many seem to be champing at the bit to get one (myself included) sloping tank version ... i need to go and lie down
  6. In Heljan's case I suspect the reputation that their steam products has gathered has probably counted against them in terms of the second wave of sales . In conversation with friends into O gauge , those who own products all comment on build quality and even at discounted prices £400+ I still expect a product that is fit for purpose my £200 Dapol engines all work beautifully and look fabulous Really hoping Dapol would pick up the 22xx mantle
  7. wouldn't the fire devil be closer to the valve which I presume you would not want freezing
  8. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184497830496? It is a book that you don't often see that cheap . There were I think three volumes , volume 3 being mixed traffic There was a Bradford Barton as well featuring a lot of his work Off topic slightly but the Steam in South Wales series by Michael Hale are very good
  9. Mine arrived today , lovely models . BR one with my Dapol pannier and Peco 16T toad . Nice little detail pack of vacuum cylinder and pipes which I haven't fittted . To me a nice solid feel to it . BR version with my Dapol
  10. I got drenched today . My wallet is happy if they are later , but I would like to have one in my hands
  11. I rang up today and ordered three wagons . looking forward to seeing them in the next few days
  12. or .... if a number of members are going same day , and don't mind grouping together , one could book a compartment for four and three others join
  13. the stock selection and nature of the layout makes me think if youtube footage of class 37's leaving a yard in Scotland with a fury of sound and exhaust , which could be created in o gauge on your layout
  14. when you think the minerva o gauge one isn't much different in price
  15. rolling back the years in the days when Hornby was uk manufacturing , Mainline and Airfix transformed models that were made in Hong Kong , that were better detailed , better proportioned , more accurate . The battle was lost, not in recent times but decades back . why Hornby were not able to create the same with a UK manufacturing operation , others may be able to explain , however the outcome was production became china . Model accuracy improved no end although quality from the above remains a question . My own response to that is I question whether we want too much . How do you stick on a myriad of separate and micro parts and expect them to stay on and never come undone ? Do we as modellers want to have our cake and eat it too much ?
  16. for those who are the proud owners of these railcars any issues coming up . Drives and gears especially
  17. An hours shunting around this afternoon was, playing with ideas to see how it all fits together. Dapol pannier as the shunting engine and my auto providing passenger services
  18. I was going to comment that proportionally it didn't look right in the Hattons images , then I saw @Market65's post and particularly the slightly elevated front 3/4 looks very good. BR late crest one and even I could twitch
  19. I would imagine the critical response to the Prairie and Mogul may not have enthused them to continue either . Shame as a 2251 would have been perfect for me
  20. many thanks Paul . Will do . Tony to be fair has generally been very good
  21. two await collection at Tony's trains of Rugby when I pop over next (yes I could get them posted but I can wait until a store visit) looking forward to seeing them in the flesh
  22. Morning all . Despite the lack of updates progress continues interspersed with bouts of just playing trains . Skytrex water tower constructed along with a peco 16t toad which awaits lettering . Tony’s trains at rugby has been superb as always with four gaugemaster weathered 16t minerals and a couple of berry wiggins tankers joining the growing stock collection . First signal built as well and just glazing the lenses remain .
  23. Derek King has posted this image on Facebook (Everything GWR group) i'm presuming condemned and I think image is at Savernake on the old M&SJWR
