  1. Looking good Jaz - what a wonderful big area to work in! Not sure it is snow, I think Jones the baker didn't use his loaf when transporting flour.
  2. Thank you very much for all the Spalding photographs - just like being there. You have a great talent for picking out the cameos and putting together an interesting series of photographs. As you noted, the really noticeable feature of the O gauge layouts is how much better the figures look, adding realism to many of the wonderful little scenes. I remember an excellent tour of the Carlsberg factory many years ago now - they have done a great job of the interior. Cheers John
  3. That's coming along nicely Allan. The neighbours will think you are building a fancy water feature for the front garden, or perhaps a Mayan sundial...
  4. Great work on the shed Allan. I hope you do build the coaling tower next - I look forward to seeing it.
  5. "Batman: It's a low neighborhood, full of rumpots. They're used to curious sights, which they attribute to alcoholic delusions. Robin: Gosh, drink is sure a filthy thing, isn't it? I'd rather be dead than unable to trust my own eyes! " From Batman : The Movie (1966)
  6. I used EZ Line for signal pulley runs and because it stretches found it to be extremely tolerant to clumsiness and snagging on clothing and tools when leaning over the layout. It was also very easy to thread through small holes. The black colour is nearly invisible if seen against a dark background though.
  7. Loved the church fair Jaz and the video of Kalborough. The pylons were worth the work - as you panned along the top of the cliff it looks really good.
  8. Many happy returns Allan - I am looking forward to another year of inspirational modelling. Cheers John
  9. Love the photograph with the sunlight streaming in through the windows. Amazing work as usual Allan. And big enough to house all those pesky children when they come to visit.
  10. Great work freebs - the windows are fantastic and you certainly haven't gone over the top on the roof trusses.
  11. That reminds me that George Stephenson built the original Manchester to Liverpool railway across the 4 mile "bottomless" peat bog of Chat Moss in the same way, by floating it on a bed of bed of larch trunks and branches, covered with brushwood, topped with a layer of earth and stones. The railway is still running across the same route today.
  12. Impressive (not sure what you use the sliced beetroot for though?). I googled the shed but didn't find many good images, although it looks like similar design were used at Keith, Kyle, etc? Some great photographs of Perth at http://locodriver.co.uk/Vol09/Part08/04/index.html
  13. Superb work as usual Allan - those double doors are exquisite, I expect the hinges even squeak. Love the round window/grill too.
  14. Jim, Thanks for your kind comments over on my thread. I have really enjoyed reading through your progress and am inspired by the superb structures and scenery you have built. Some wonderful tips, scratch building, photography and modelling. I will be following future developments eagerly. John
  15. Hi Duncan And your commenting on my thread lead me back here for an hour of enjoyable reading too! I love the way your track plan has developed and think you arrived at an excellent result, even if you have to wait a while to build it all. The forge is coming along nicely. It reminded me of the Allan Downes (2013) challenge to build a forge which resulted in some beautiful buildings here on RMweb (great interior detail that sticks in my mind in this forge by Iain Robinson here).
  16. Hi Jaz Have been catching up on the thread (again). The photographs with the pylons in the background are superb (I can recommend EZ Line if you ever want to string them with cables). The police station is coming along really well - you have enhanced the stone work beautifully. I particularly liked the bowling green and back gardens from Wellbridge. Cheers John

    A New Start

Looking good. Love the additional figures on the beach and two trains in operation at once in the video! Time to build some longer platforms... Is it possible to put any passengers inside the HST coaches? I was surprised at how clearly I could see the interiors in the video when when they were whizzing past. Cheers John
  18. Agree, agree, and as usual your painting really brings it to life.Wonderful use of colour.
  19. Jaz, that last photograph, with its reflections and restricted depth of field is so atmospheric! Brilliant.
  20. Loved the photographs where you were experimenting with the light and the water about 3 pages back! Great job painting the figures too. Sometimes I am catching up on your thread and see I only have two pages to go - but my reading is slower than your typing - so I get to the bottom of the page and I now have 3 pages to go! Keep up the great work.
  21. Hi Peter, Love the arched windows and the amazing panels and corbels on the columns. Looking good!
  22. Thanks for all the photos Jaz. I think the trees in your first set are amazing. Some fantastic wee details in other layouts too. Glad you had a great time at the show.
  23. Great lamp hut Adrian and congratulations on making it into the magazine. Cheers John
