  1. Absolutely brilliant lighting in that last batch of photographs. There were lots of great posts to read since I was last here just a couple of days ago. As usual Mrs S's gardens look amazing and of course the sheep appealed...
  2. Thanks for all those wonderful pictures - some inspirational cameos there! I will browse through them again looking at the finer details when I have some more time tonight. You etchings are coming along really well - they are going to look superb. Cheers John
  3. Amazing catalogue of buildings Allan. It made me wonder just how many windows you have installed in model buildings over the years. Assuming an average of one building per week, allowing you 4 weeks off per year and being generous with your age I figure it is in the region of 30,000!
  4. I thought the buildings looked good before, but the new paintwork is even better!
  5. Allan you are our Aediculus. Just when we thought you had slowed down to one new building per week you pull out amazing photographs of mills, diesel sheds and other unseen masterpieces! I particularly like those flowers, reeds, flax and gardens in #4355.
  6. Hope you all enjoy it and take lots of photographs!

    A New Start

The hairspray trick has worked really well - nice work! I don't think it needs any more other than some "dirt". Cheer John
  8. Great save on the cottages Lee, they look fantastic and I particularly like the roof tiling.
  9. Wonderful modelling again Allan. I am curious as to what your neighbours say when every day or two they see another amazing finished O gauge building being photographed on top of your front hedge?
  10. HI Allan I think they would all date back to the pre-digital era, which means my chances of finding them are zero. Thanks for the thought though. If you need a seaside challenge how about the Brighton Pavilion or a Pier? Cheers John
  11. Very evocative Allan, I am sure I have been there. Apart from the barge boards my parents-in-law had a similar looking seaside house and often in winter shells would be blown up onto the roof, hiding all sorts of holes and gaps! I love that fancy chimney and the detail work.
  12. I agree, you could even add one of those wall ties like: http://img1.photographersdirect.com/img/18/wm/pd1783038.jpg http://cloud.graphicleftovers.com/20733/758564/old-brick-wall-with-tie-bar.jpg
  13. That is sublime Allan - the effect on the doors has come out really well and the stonework is brilliant, but what really caught my eye on this model is the weathering of the roof (especially in the second to last photograph) and the window sills (and the shiny door knob to the office/mess is a nice touch).
  14. Great work on the road and the cows Jaz. Personally I like the road without the centre line. I don't think you need to darken the right-hand cow - certainly the Jersey cows we have down-under can be quite a light brown - but perhaps they are all sun-bleached (or perhaps like some African tribes they bleach their hair using a natural product they have close to hand/hoof).
  15. I agree, that is superb work. Sometimes I find that scenery looks great either from a distance or in closeup and the brilliance is when it looks fantastic from all distances - as you have achieved here. Cheers John
  16. Hi Allan, I saw you were up late tiling again! I've noticed that it always seems to take about 3 hours for you to tile a roof (which beats my 3 weeks hands down). Hope you thrashed that computer at chess. The "woodwork" look superb on the Fairford shed and I particularly like all the lightning conductors sticking out of the roof! Cheers John
  17. Wonderful pictures and video Shaun, looking forward to more! Cheers John
  18. I would be very happy to see you model all the way to Charing Cross!
  19. Hi Jaz, have been away for the weekend so I missed your Kiwi research - the kiwi on the wall is looking great and thank you for adding my name. Your research was spot-on about the different types. Getting off-topic, but we were lucky enough in 2011 to visit a bird sanctuary north of Wellington and be the first public to see a 5 day old pure white kiwi (incredibly rare as they are not albino but occur if two parents both have a recessive gene).

    A New Start

Hi, here are a couple of (largish) photographs of Tornado showing the washout plugs (Goathland in 2010) which might be useful.
  21. That is a great way to make ridge tiles Allan. I always end up sticking fiddly strips of paper on with the tip of a knife to make the top layer and it is a right pain. Off to the Evergreen catalogue to see if there are 4 mm angles sizes that will do the job. I really like the texture/colour of the lintels and sills. Cheers, John
  22. A couple of photographs of the Tudor House (4mm) from my building thread starting here. This building started with Allan's challenge over here.
  23. Jaz the Wolf is superb, the highlighting really brought it to life - brilliant.
  24. Sorry Allan, but it took me 15300 minutes to count them all so I just had to tell someone.
