  1. There's nothing like a definitive answer for spoiling the fun!
  2. I'm almost ashamed to say that it would be a close-run thing, but not looking good for Kate's self-esteem.
  3. OK, nothing new. I already have the H2 'South Foreland' on pre-order from 2013(ish, when it was 'St Albans Head') and, as you note, the announced H1 is currently for pre-grouping. I'll stump up for a H1 when, almost inevitably, comes out in olive green. But that will be a future Bachmann announcement, no doubt.

  5. There's been a few anniversaries around recently, to justify those releases though. Didn't something relevant happen 100 years ago this year?
  6. To be honest, in my heart of hearts, I always knew that Kate Winslet hand-delivering a 4LAV to my door was little more than a pipe dream.
  7. Nothing for pre-war SR modellers. But the Hunslets look strangely tempting.
  8. I had ordered both the Southern olive green and Egyptian lettered versions. But, unfortunately, SWMBO checks the credit card statements. Given that I have several other options on order, I've had to let the Maunsell green go. I'm not happy about it, because it looks beautiful, but hopefully it'll find a loving home.
  9. Lest you think that I'm unnecessarily bothered by details, don't. I don't count rivets, I'm not hung up on deviations due to manufacturing tolerances/technologies, or lack of features because of same. But the addition of something that was never there in the first place gives me pause for thought, especially at a premium price. I'm more than happy to pay premium for quality, I'd rather pay more for detail and fidelity than less for corner-cutting. But the addition of something that was never there in the first place is careless. It's still cute, but that only goes so far. At the end of the day, that's all that matters!
  10. I'm with you on that. Growing up in the 70s, I have no interest at all in 'modern image'. I love the romance of steam, tempered as it is with not having to have relied upon it. So, being a southern lad, I'm more interested in pre-war SR, but with a certain chagrin that GWR had some of the best locos.
  11. The irony is that the Kernow webpage has a photo gallery with a photo of the original quite obviously sans splashers. And if you progress the slide show to the model, presto! splashers! Paul Daniels, or even Ali Bongo, would've been proud. My OCD begs to differ

    The End.

This. It happens, take a break before, in the immortal words of Human League: It's much too late to find You think you've changed your mind
  13. Not my region, not my era, but the GWR button logo version was too cute to pass up...until I read this thread and noticed the unnecessary splashers. I thought DJM was a byword for fidelity; but perhaps not.
  14. I love GWR because...just because. But I'd be more compelled by SR (and, yes, that's not just saying). But I know there'll be a lot of takers on this. So have fun!
  15. Sad how antisocials destroy the fun and enjoyment of everyone else
  16. BUM! That's the thing that I forgot...the O2 in olive is sold out..plenty of the others, but that's no good to me (unless one can be relatively painlessly be repainted. Truffy's mind is not what it was. I have a Hornby M7 in PP guise.
  17. Thank you for that photo, John. The photos of 374 olive on the KMRC site showed the colour to look more like 'baby nappy brown' than the olive that Hornby and Bachmann livery their coaches in. Given that any photo can 'tell a lie' but the eye in real life doesn't, how would you say the olive colour of these matches the Maunsells and Birdcages from red and blue?
  18. I gave up on Hornby over 'design clever'. I wonder how many others did also, or whether there were other factors at play.
  19. The first of the Dia.1529 cattle wagons was, I think, a mistake. Given as "Era 4" but "1923-1947", the picture on Hornby's site has been replaced with one identical to the one below it in post#1. Pity.
  20. I seem to recall Rik Mayall proving that point years ago.
  21. There's more than just Hattons and Rails worth looking at. I'm currently looking at a well-priced item (new, at the same price as used on H) with another seller (and it ain't Ebay).
  22. I don't agree with your editing of my comment. There is, in my opinion at least, a clear difference between straightforward capitalism and scalping/opportunism. Selling for a profit is what makes the (capitalist) world go around, but the markup is the differentiator: 10%, OK; 50%, hmmm; 100+%, you're extracting the urine.
  23. Could be useful to me. I have to 'rationalise' my collection, which means 'downsizing' some of it so that I can 'upsize' elsewhere.
  24. I didn't state that all Ebay sellers were scalpers, only that some of them are and, unfortunately, they seem to be the top of the pile. I have bought some very good Hornby Maunsells off Ebay before now, and the Hornby Southern Suburban train pack (which was sold as new, but the loco was damaged, ne'vermind). But the Southern Suburban coach pack, which originally retailed for less than £75, is now going for ca. £175. Yikes! I guess that apologists (not a comment aimed at you!) might say something along the lines of "fetching its worth", and good luck to them.
