  1. Thanks mate! It was very simple, just Humbrol Smoke and Earth powdered, dry brushed on, then seal with a quick spray of matt varnish. Earth powder on the chassis and smoke powder on the main body and roof. I painted the wheels with Humbrol 29 and then gave them a black wash to dull them down. Hope this helps.
  2. Thanks! Glad you like it! LOL! Funny you say that! As I just messed up one of my friend 16 tonners! Just hope I can fix it.
  3. The latest wagon to receive the weathering treatment! This Bachmann Queen Mary Brake Van is the first in a large fleet which I am weathering for a friend. Tell me what you think!
  4. Thanks Andy! Glad you like my work! Just about to upload some pics of the latest! Just finished yesterday! Hope your weather goes well when you get started too!
  5. Was looking forward to get my hand on the ESSO one before Christmas, so I could let her have a good little shunt on my Dock Side micro layout, Compton Quay. But if it is come next year the is no big rush. Hornby have done a great job with reigning the axle boxes and buffer beam! Are there any picks of the updated ESSO one?
  6. Wow! Hornby have done a good job! Glad they have made the changes! Can't wait even more to get my hands on the ESSO one now!
  7. A quick video of the weathered 45xx in action on my Micro Exhibition Layout, Compton Quay. Hope you enjoy!
  8. Thanks David! Glad you like them! I was a bit nervous at first, but once I got started it was fine! The powders are quite easy to correct if you add to much. Yes, I would highly recommend using a older loco. The 45xx one was non runner donated when I bought it from my local shop Signals Models at Midsomer Norton, I gave her back and gave me a full refund. When I asked for a old second hand loco to have a go on they said use the 45xx. Once I weathered her and gave her a quick once over she sprung to life and runs a dream! So will be giving the money back to Signals and purchasing her back again! LOL!
  9. LOL! I'm not sure if it called that. It's the little rod on the right side of the engine (if you are standing in the cab looking down the boiler). It goes into a little cylinder which lubricates the engine and creates that famous GWR ticking noise.
  10. Just cleaned the wheel on the 45xx today with Humbrol Thinners and cotton buds, to make sure all the contact surfaces are clean. I rested at piece of track with power on the rear wheels and held the bud to the moving wheels. Just wanted to know if it was ok to clean then with like this, using Humbrol Thinners? Just don't want to do any damage to the model. One wheel seems to have some scratches on it, I don't think the rail did this when the wheel where spinning. I also noticed the lubricator rod on this model seem to be a bit floppy does any one else have this problem (not to be confused )?
  11. Thank you ever so much mate! LOL! You never know if you come to the Compton Martin show next year... A bloke in the local area has contacted me and wants me to weather his whole fleet! For a start he want me to weather 12 wagons! He also want me to weather his some locos too! So something tell me there will not be much progress made on the layout! LOL!
  12. Hi mate! I have just started a weathering thread, which features my first weathered loco if you are interested! Here a link... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/78866-sdjr7f88s-weathering/ Please tell me what you think!
  13. Thanks you ever so much mate! Glad you like them! I am over the moon with the results on the 45xx! So I hope to purchase her out right from Signals Models, considering she is on lone at the moment!
  14. That would be super mate! I could weather your up if you want, but we would have to find some why of sending it back.
  15. LOL! Me too! This loco is not mine at the moment, but Signals Models! I buy it at the show, but it did not work so I gave it back. They lent it back to me to have a go at weathering it up. It is now working well too! I am so pleased with the results I think am going to buy her back again! Considering she the first loco I weather!
  16. Thanks you very much! Moving onto coaches now, but sadly not getting the same results at the moment. Very hard to get that sort of light dusting on the sides, if you know what I mean. Will give it another go though!
  17. Thanks again Alan! They take a bit long to do than an airbrushed model, but I feel (and I'm sure you will agree) the results looks a lot better! LOL! Shame I never get around to doing any of these myself, apart from the loco that is! Trying it on a coach at the moment, but the results are not as good. Will have to give it another go.
  18. Here are some examples of my weathered wagons! Sadly I do not own any of these wagons any more, as people loved them so much they brought them from me! Again I used Humbrol Powders and also some Humbrol Acrylic Authentic Rail Colour Rust mixed with a bit of Humbrol 33 Matt Black. I apply this mixture of paint with a sponge to achieve the flaky rust effect on the steel sided wagons and the metal frame work on the other wagons. Please tell me what you think!
  19. Thanks Alan! Yep, just Humbrol Weathering Powders and some Humbrol Matt Varnish (spray) to hold them all down. Just about to upload some picture of some of my weathered wagons (also using powders) if you are interested?
  20. Hi Guys! Just started at topic on weathering, showing some of my attempts, including my first weathered loco! Here's a link to the topic... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/78866-sdjr7f88s-weathering/
