  1. To catch up on the 'World Series' events, the Bahrain Darts Masters was won by new-crowned World Champion Michael Smith, while the Nordic Darts Masters was won by Peter Wright. The next tournament on TV is the Masters on 27th-29th January. Joe Cullen is the defending champion of this event. Those ranked between 9th and 24th enter at the first round and the winners face the top 8 in the second round. The draw looks like this: (1) Michael Smith Vs (16) Damon Heta/(17) Ross Smith (8) Danny Noppert Vs (9) Nathan Aspinall/(24) Stephen Bunting (4) Gerwyn Price Vs (13) Dirk van Duijvenbode/(20) Krzysztof Ratajski (5) Luke Humphries Vs (12) Joe Cullen/(21) Chris Dobey (2) Peter Wright Vs (15) Ryan Searle/(18) Dave Chisnall (7) Jonny Clayton Vs (10) James Wade/(23) Callan Rydz (3) Michael van Gerwen Vs (14) Jose de Sousa/(19) Gabriel Clemens (6) Rob Cross Vs (11) Dimitri Van den Bergh/(22) Gary Anderson
  2. The layout Trinity Dock Bridge Street, which would have been Stand No. 22, has had to withdraw from the exhibition.
  3. Looking at the NFL Playoffs, the home field team is determined by seeding number, as the NFL does not use a fixed bracket system. The lowest ranked seed after the Wild Card playoff round will play the No. 1 seeds (Kansas or Philadelphia) in the Divisional playoff round. AFC: (5) Los Angeles Chargers at (4) Jacksonville Jaguars (7) Miami Dolphins at (2) Buffalo Bills (6) Baltimore Ravens at (3) Cincinnati Bengals NFC: (5) Dallas Cowboys at (4) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7) Seattle Seahawks at (2) San Francisco 49ers (6) New York Giants at (3) Minnesota Vikings The Divisional group winners always play at home, which is why the NFC South winners Tampa Bay with a losing regular season record of 8-9 are hosting Dallas who have regular season record of 12-5.
  4. The PDC's 'World Series of Darts' events starts today (12th January) with the Bahrain Darts Masters and concludes tomorrow. Coverage is on ITV4. This tournament features 8 of the top names in the PDC against 2 local qualifiers and 6 Asian representatives (including the legendary Paul Lim). There is another 'World Series' event next weekend (20th & 21st January), the Nordic Darts Masters, in Copenhagen. The next 'Major' is the Masters from Milton Keynes on 27th-29th January. Coverage of both tournaments are on ITV4. The Premier League begins on 2nd February in Belfast and will run every Thursday night (visiting Cardiff, Glasgow, Dublin, Exeter, Liverpool, Nottingham, Newcastle, Berlin, Birmingham, Brighton, Rotterdam, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, and Aberdeen) until the Play-Off Night on 25th May at the O2 Arena in London. Coverage on Sky Sports. The 'other' World Darts Championship at Lakeside, which traditionally takes places at this time of year, has been moved to the beginning of December, so it would not clash with the PDC's Qualifying School (happening right now) and for it to be the end of season event for the World Darts Federation.
  5. The webpage for the Exhibition has been updated with the Stand Numbers and Locations within the Academy. Strood Dock is Stand No. 62 in the Sports Hall. On The Rails is Stand No. 41 also in the Sports Hall.
  6. Donations to the toy drive Damar Hamlin launched in 2020 has raised over $5.6 million since his horrific collapse on the field. Like with what happened to Christian Eriksen and Fabrice Muamba, I sincerely hope Hamlin makes a full recovery.
  7. Michael Smith wins the World Championship with a 7 sets to 4 victory over Michael van Gerwen and becomes the new World No. 1 in the process. Plus this happened:
  8. The World Championship final is tonight (Tuesday 3rd). Michael Smith Vs Michael van Gerwen. Whoever wins becomes the World No. 1 (in the PDC's Order of Merit). Alongside Sky Sports, I believe there is also radio coverage on talkSPORT.
  9. I can confirm that the Free Shuttle Bus for the exhibition will be a Routemaster. The service shall start from about 9:00am from Longfield Railway Station on both days of the show, and will run frequently throughout the weekend (depending of attendance, traffic, driver's breaks, etc.), with the last service of the day from The Longfield Academy not long after closing time for the exhibition (5:00pm on Saturday and 4:00pm on Sunday).
  10. The World Championship is now entering its final stages, with the quarter-finals due to take place on Sunday 1st, the semi-finals in the evening of Monday 2nd, and the final in the evening of Tuesday 3rd. The draw bracket now looks like this: (1) Gerwyn Price (WAL) Vs (25) Gabriel Clemens (GER) (4) Michael Smith (ENG) Vs (21) Stephen Bunting (ENG) (15) Dimitri van den Bergh (BEL) Vs (7) Jonny Clayton (WAL) (3) Michael van Gerwen (NED) Vs (22) Chris Dobey (ENG)
  11. Now that all the first and second round games are done and dusted, the only seeds eliminated in the second round were Daryl Gurney, Callan Rydz and, my favourite player, James Wade. The tournament resumes on Tuesday 27th, with the draw bracket looking like this now: (1) Gerwyn Price (WAL) Vs (32) Raymond van Barneveld (NED) (16) Ryan Searle (ENG) Vs (17) Jose de Sousa (POR) Jim Williams (WAL) Vs (25) Gabriel Clemens (GER) (9) Danny Noppert (NED) Vs Alan Soutar (SCO) (4) Michael Smith (ENG) Vs (29) Martin Schindler (GER) (13) Joe Cullen (ENG) Vs (20) Damon Heta (AUS) (5) Luke Humphries (ENG) Vs (28) Vincent van der Voort (NED) (12) Dave Chisnall (ENG) Vs (21) Stephen Bunting (ENG) (2) Peter Wright (SCO) Vs (31) Kim Huybrechts (BEL) (15) Dimitri van den Bergh (BEL) Vs (18) Krzysztof Ratajski (POL) (7) Jonny Clayton (WAL) Vs (26) Brendan Dolan (NIR) (10) Nathan Aspinall (ENG) Vs Josh Rock (NIR) (3) Michael van Gerwen (NED) Vs (30) Mensur Suljovic (AUT) (14) Dirk van Duijvenbode (NED) Vs (19) Ross Smith (ENG) (6) Rob Cross (ENG) Vs (27) Mervyn King (ENG) (11) Gary Anderson (SCO) Vs (22) Chris Dobey (ENG)
  12. The ending of the Patriots @ Raiders game (follow the link to YouTube). What was New England thinking (if at all)?
  13. From what I have seen for the 2023 WRC Season, M-Sport Ford will have Ott Tänak and Pierre-Louis Loubet, Hyundai will have Thierry Neuville, Esapekka Lappi and the third car shared by Dani Sordo and Craig Breen, while Toyota will have Kalle Rovanperä, Elfyn Evans and the third car shared by Sébastien Ogier and Takamoto Katsuta. The season starts with Monte Carlo on 19th-22nd January, with rounds scheduled in Sweden, Mexico, Croatia, Portugal, Sardinia in Italy, Kenya, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Chile, Central Europe (co-hosted by Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic) and concludes with Japan on 16th-19th November. Sportscar Racing for the 2023 season looks very interesting with the convergence of the Le Mans Hypercar and LMDh rulesets into one class. BMW and Porsche are returning to the top class in the IMSA, now called Grand Touring Prototype (GTP). Their season begins with the Daytona 24 Hours on 28th-29th January. Porsche's main works effort is being run by Penske in both the IMSA and the WEC (two cars in each series), with privately run efforts by JDC-Miller MotorSports and Proton Competition in the IMSA (one car each) and Jota Sports and Proton Competition again in the WEC (one car each). Cadillac's works team is run by Chip Ganassi Racing who are running two cars in the IMSA and one car in the WEC, plus there is a privately run Cadillac (by Action Express Racing under the Whelen Engineering Racing banner) in the IMSA. BMW in the IMSA will be run by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (two cars) and the marque are due to return to the WEC in 2024 (run by WRT, who were meant to run Audi's LMDh car before Audi canned the project). Acura (a brand of Honda's) will still be run by Wayne Taylor Racing and Meyer Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian (one car each) in the IMSA. There are no plans for the car to be entered into the WEC or for Le Mans. The WEC season begins with the 1,000 Miles of Sebring on 17th March (the day before the IMSA's 12 Hours of Sebring). Toyota, Peugeot, Ferrari, Porsche, Cadillac and Glickenhaus will be present in the top class Hypercar category, especially at the Le Mans 24 Hours on 10th-11th June, which will be the 100th Anniversary edition (but not the 100th Race). The first race took place on 26th-27th May 1923. There were no races in 1936 (General Strike and related civil unrest in France) and between 1940 and 1948 (WW2 and the post-war reconstruction). Alpine are due to return to the WEC in 2024 with their own LMDh car, plus Lamborghini are due to join the series also in 2024 with a LMDh car. There are still plans for Le Mans Hypercars from ByKolles (badged as a Vanwall), Isotta Fraschini, De Tomaso, and Veloqx, but when, where or if they will make their debuts remains to be seen at present. The LMDh cars incidentally use a standard LMP2 chassis from one of the approved manufactures, Oreca, Ligier, Dallara or Multimatic, and from there the road car manufacturers (Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Porsche, Alpine and Lamborghini thus far) build their own cars around one of those chassis.
  14. This weekend gone saw the Players Championship Finals, the final tournament before the World Championship, where Michael van Gerwen beats Rob Cross 11-6 to win this Major for the 7th time. Van Gerwen also threw the only nine darter in the tournament, plus a 170 checkout all in the final. Following the final qualifier for Tour Card holders on Monday, the 96 player field for the World Championship has been confirmed and the draw has been made. The top 32 have a bye through to round two where they will face either qualifiers from the Pro Tour Order of Merit or an international qualifier, or a secondary, junior or regional affiliate tour qualifier. The total prize pool is £2,500,000, with £500,000 going to the winner. The tournament starts on Tuesday 15th December and concludes on Saturday 3rd January and is live on Sky Sports. Peter Wright is the defending champion, but going by current form, Michael van Gerwen is the favourite. Draw Bracket: (1) Gerwyn Price (WAL) Vs Luke Woodhouse (ENG)/Vladyslav Omelchenko (UKR) (32) Raymond van Barneveld (NED) Vs Ryan Meikle (ENG)/Lisa Ashton (ENG) (16) Ryan Searle (ENG) Vs Adam Gawlas (CZE)/Richie Burnett (WAL) (17) Jose de Sousa (POR) Vs Simon Whitlock (AUS)/Christian Perez (PHI) (8) James Wade (ENG) Vs Jim Williams (WAL)/Sebastian Bialecki (POL) (25) Gabriel Clemens (GER) Vs William O'Connor (IRE)/Beau Greaves (ENG) (9) Danny Noppert (NED) Vs Ritchie Edhouse (ENG)/David Cameron (CAN) (24) Daryl Gurney (NIR) Vs Alan Soutar (SCO)/Mal Cuming (AUS) (4) Michael Smith (ENG) Vs Jermaine Wattimena (NED)/Nathan Rafferty (NIR) (29) Martin Schindler (GER) Vs Martin Lukeman (ENG)/Nobuhiro Yamamoto (JAP) (13) Joe Cullen (ENG) Vs Ricky Evans (ENG)/Fallon Sherrock (ENG) (20) Damon Heta (AUS) Vs Adrian Lewis (ENG)/Daniel Larsson (SWE) (5) Luke Humphries (ENG) Vs Keegan Brown (ENG)/Florian Hempel (GER) (28) Vincent van der Voort (NED) Vs Cameron Menzies (SCO)/Diogo Portela (BRA) (12) Dave Chisnall (ENG) Vs Andrew Gilding (ENG)/Robert Owen (WAL) (21) Stephen Bunting (ENG) Vs Geert Nentjes (NED)/Leonard Gates (USA) (2) Peter Wright (SCO) Vs Mickey Mansell (NIR)/Ben Robb (NZL) (31) Kim Huybrechts (BEL) Vs Keane Barry (IRE)/Grant Sampson (RSA) (15) Dimitri van den Bergh (BEL) Vs Rowby-John Rodriguez (AUT)/Lourence Ilagan (PHI) (18) Krzysztof Ratajski (POL) Vs Danny Jansen (NED)/Paolo Nebrida (PHI) (7) Jonny Clayton (WAL) Vs Steve Beaton (ENG)/Danny van Trijp (NED) (26) Brendan Dolan (NIR) Vs Jamie Hughes (ENG)/Jimmy Hendriks (NED) (10) Nathan Aspinall (ENG) Vs Boris Krcmar (CRO)/Toru Suzuki (JAP) (23) Callan Rydz (ENG) Vs Josh Rock (NIR)/Jose Justicia (SPA) (3) Michael van Gerwen (NED) Vs Niels Zonneveld (NED)/Lewy Williams (WAL) (30) Mensur Suljovic (AUT) Vs Mike de Decker (BEL)/Jeff Smith (CAN) (14) Dirk van Duijvenbode (NED) Vs Karel Sedlacek (CZE)/Raymond Smith (AUS) (19) Ross Smith (ENG) Vs John O'Shea (IRE)/Darius Labanauskas (LIT) (6) Rob Cross (ENG) Vs Scott Williams (ENG)/Ryan Joyce (ENG) (27) Mervyn King (ENG) Vs Matt Campbell (CAN)/Danny Baggish (USA) (11) Gary Anderson (SCO) Vs Madars Razma (LAT)/Prakash Jiwa (IND) (22) Chris Dobey (ENG) Vs Martijn Kleermaker (NED)/Xicheng Han (CHI)
  15. Following the conclusion of the Grand Slam of Darts, Michael Smith finally won his first televised ranking title with a 16-5 win over Nathan Aspinall. Raymond van Barneveld rolled back the years to make the semi-finals, beating Gerwyn Price both the group stage and in the quarter-finals, before losing to the eventual winner Michael Smith who now moves up to 4th in the World Rankings. The other semi-finalist, Luke Humphries, now moves up to 5th. How the PDC's Order of Merit works is upon the 2 year anniversary of a tournament, the prize money won back then is removed and replaced by what money (if any) that is won now. For example Jose de Sousa who won the Grand Slam of Darts in 2020 lost the prize money that contributed to his ranking in 2022, hence why he has dropped from 6th in the Order of Merit going into the tournament, to 16th after the tournament. Gerwyn Price will be defending the prize money won in the 2020/21 World Championship in the upcoming 2022/23 World Championship. It is similar to the system used on golf's European Tour. The final tournament before the World Championship at Ally Pally, is the Players Championship Finals at Butlin's in Minehead starting on Friday 25th and concluding on Sunday 27th. Peter Wright will be unable to defend his title as he withdrew for personal reasons. His place in the draw will be taken by the next highest ranked player in the Players Championship Order of Merit not qualified, Gian van Veen. The draw consist of the top 64 from this Order of Merit with 1st plays 64th down to 32nd plays 33rd. Draw Bracket: (1) Damon Heta (AUS) Vs (64) Ricardo Pietreczko (GER) (32) Callan Rydz (ENG) Vs (33) Madars Razma (LAT) (16) Andrew Gilding (ENG) Vs (49) Ricky Evans (ENG) (17) Adrian Lewis (ENG) Vs (48) Keane Barry (IRE) (8) Gerwyn Price (WAL) Vs (57) Ryan Joyce (ENG) (25) Brendan Dolan (NIR) Vs (40) Jermaine Wattimena (NED) (Alt/65) Gian van Veen (NED) Vs (56) Ross Smith (ENG) (24) Jonny Clayton (WAL) Vs (41) John O'Shea (IRE) (4) Dirk van Duijvenbode (NED) Vs (61) Mickey Mansell (NIR) (29) Daryl Gurney (NIR) Vs (36) Keegan Brown (ENG) (13) Ryan Searle (ENG) Vs (52) Mervyn King (ENG) (20) Stephen Bunting (ENG) Vs (45) Jamie Hughes (ENG) (5) Rob Cross (ENG) Vs (60) Kevin Doets (NED) (28) Gabriel Clemens (GER) Vs (37) Gary Anderson (SCO) (12) Martin Schindler (GER) Vs (53) Vincent van der Voort (NED) (21) Chris Dobey (ENG) Vs (44) Geert Nentjes (NED) (2) Luke Humphries (ENG) Vs (63) Nathan Rafferty (NIR) (31) Jim Williams (WAL) Vs (34) Mike De Decker (BEL) (15) Krzysztof Ratajski (POL) Vs (50) William O'Connor (IRE) (18) Jose de Sousa (POR) Vs (47) Danny Jansen (NED) (7) Dave Chisnall (ENG) Vs (58) Niels Zonneveld (NED) (26) Scott Williams (ENG) Vs (39) Alan Soutar (SCO) (10) Joe Cullen (ENG) Vs (55) Rowby-John Rodriguez (AUT) (23) Kim Huybrechts (BEL) Vs (42) Raymond van Barneveld (NED) (3) Nathan Aspinall (ENG) Vs (62) Martijn Kleermaker (NED) (30) Matt Campbell (CAN) Vs (35) Steve Beaton (ENG) (14) Danny Noppert (NED) Vs (51) Simon Whitlock (AUS) (19) James Wade (ENG) Vs (46) Mensur Suljovic (AUT) (6) Michael Smith (ENG) Vs (59) Ritchie Edhouse (ENG) (27) Dimitri van den Bergh (BEL) Vs (38) Martin Lukeman (ENG) (11) Josh Rock (NIR) Vs (54) Cameron Menzies (SCO) (22) Michael van Gerwen (NED) v (43) Ryan Meikle (ENG)
  16. SP Rail has uploaded their footage of the show to YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCIf96JbWtQ
  17. Absolutely. Organising a show in the Greater London area seems to be more expensive compared to other areas in the country. The Erith MRS show in January takes place in Longfield, a place difficult to reach by public transport from our base, but the venue offers the space we need for a large event. One neighbouring club, the Chatham & District MRC, have not organised a show for a few years now and they used to run one of the largest shows in the south east. The only other neighbouring clubs to us that currently organise shows are the Beckenham & West Wickham MRC, the Gravesend Railway Enthusiasts Society, the Tonbridge MRC, and the Orpington & District MRS. I unfortunately could not attend Tolworth this year as I felt ill on Friday afternoon and I had to be fit for work on Sunday, but I am glad people who went there had a good time. Plus I can sympathise when it comes to working in the car park. I have had many experiences of drivers treating you as if you do not exist, despite wearing a Hi-Viz vest or coat. And (when it comes to my line of work) you are pushing a line of trolleys as well.
  18. The phrase 'bangers and mash' is (unsurprisingly) in the Viz Profanisaurus, complete with a 'quote' from the totally made-up, Thomas and the Dyno-Rod Man.
  19. From checking Google it is now called the 'COOL Coffee Shop', it still does all day breakfast.
  20. The draw for the Grand Slam of Darts has been made: Group A: (1) Gerwyn Price (WAL), Dave Chisnall (ENG), Raymond van Barneveld (NED), Ted Evetts (ENG). Group B: (8) Danny Noppert (NED), Simon Whitlock (AUS), Mensur Suljovic (AUT), Christian Perez (PHI). Group C: (4) Michael Smith (ENG), Joe Cullen (ENG), Ritchie Edhouse (ENG), Lisa Ashton (ENG). Group D: (5) Rob Cross (ENG), Dirk van Duijvenbode (NED), Martin Schindler (GER), Adam Gawlas (CZE). Group E: (2) Peter Wright (SCO), Nathan Aspinall (ENG), Alan Soutar (SCO), Fallon Sherrock (ENG). Group F: (7) Jonny Clayton (WAL), Damon Heta (AUS), Jermaine Wattimena (NED), Leonard Gates (USA). Group G: (3) Michael van Gerwen (NED), Ross Smith (ENG), Luke Woodhouse (ENG), Nathan Rafferty (NIR). Group H: (6) Luke Humphries (ENG), Ryan Searle (ENG), Josh Rock (NIR), Scott Williams (ENG). The top two from each group qualify for the knock-out stage. The tournament starts on Saturday 12th and concludes on Sunday 20th and is broadcast by Sky Sports. Gerwyn Price is the defending champion of this event. The finalists from two years ago, James Wade and Jose de Sousa, have not qualified despite being ranked 5th and 6th respectively in the PDC Order of Merit (at the time of writing). Like last year's tournament, there will be no representation from the WDF or the defunct BDO. When this tournament first started in 2007, the PDC had always invited the best performing players from the rival BDO and was not a ranking event, but it is now just another ranked PDC Major. ITV were the original broadcaster until Sky picked it up from 2011 onwards.
  21. Two more championships have come to their conclusions this weekend gone. In the NASCAR Cup Series, Joey Logano won his second Cup series crown driving for Team Penske. While in MotoGP, Italian Francesco 'Pecco' Bagnaia riding for Ducati won his first championship since winning the Moto2 crown in 2018. This season also marks the first time Honda finished last in the manufacturers' standings in the modern era, being the only manufacturer to not score a victory (Ducati, Yamaha, Aprilia, KTM, and Suzuki, who are withdrawing from the championship, are the others). The only other championships that have yet to conclude their 2022 seasons, are the World Endurance Championship (final race being the 8 hours of Bahrain on 12th November) and the World Touring Car Cup (final rounds in Bahrain on 10th-12th November and Saudi Arabia on 18th-20th November). The World Touring Car Cup, formerly the World Touring Car Championship, will be discontinued following these final two meetings.
  22. The Erith Model Railway Society's January Exhibition, one of South East England's largest shows (and probably Kent's largest by stand numbers), will (hopefully) return to The Longfield Academy for our 6th show there (and our first since 2020). The show will continue to encompass at least 30 layouts, extensive trade and society support, demonstrators, static exhibits and charity raffle (in aid of the Association of Bexley Charities '78), making about 90 stands in total. Venue Address: The Longfield Academy, Main Road (B260), Longfield, Kent, DA3 7PH. Opening Times: Saturday 28th January 2023 - 10:00am to 5:00pm & Sunday 29th January 2023 - 10:00am to 4:00pm. Entry Prices: Adults - £9.00. Accompanied Children - £1.00. Entry price includes free exhibition guide. The venue can be reached by Longfield railway station (5-10 minute walk away), Arriva bus services 423 (from Dartford and Bluewater), 433 (from Bluewater, Sunday only) and 489 (from Gravesend), and Go-Coach bus services 474 and 475 (both from Bluewater). The buses stop within a 5-10 minute walk from the venue. Some services may stop at Longfield Academy itself, but ask the driver for the nearest stop to the venue. Please be aware that there are NO Sunday services for the 423, 474 and 475 routes. There is a sizeable free on-site car park, full disabled access (including toilets), a large refreshment area (200 seats) and an extensive range of hot and cold food and drinks at reasonable prices. There is some off-site parking available at a day nursery in Brickfield Farm just up the road from the venue (5 minute walk away), should we run out (and we usually do) of on-site parking. There will be a FREE Shuttle Bus service running between Longfield Railway Station and the Longfield Academy on BOTH days of the show. So if you cannot get parked at the venue or the day nursery in Brickfield Farm, you can park at Longfield Railway Station Car Park (88 spaces, Pay-and-Display - £2.80 all day Saturday, £1.00 all day Sunday) and catch the shuttle bus to the venue. 23. Meanwhile, there is the World Cup for the other code of Rugby going on at the moment.
  24. Following the conclusion of the European Championship, we have a new Major winner in Ross Smith from Kent who beat Michael Smith (no relation) from St. Helens 11-8. Ross Smith, who had never won a European Tour event, now moves up to 20th in the World Rankings and qualifies for the Grand Slam of Darts at the Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton on 12th-20th November. The 32-player field for this tournament will be confirmed following the qualifying event on 6th November.
  25. Erith MRS Club Member's layout Scrapworth End will be in attendance. This exhibition normally has some quality layouts and rather nice show guide. You can always catch the No. 71 TfL bus to and/or from the show (nearest stop Southborough High School) if there is an issue with shuttle bus.
