  1. Here are my pair. They have a nice weight to them and the wheels are definitely finer compared to mass produced RTR, but they do run okay most importantly. As with most technology, 3D printing is only going to get better. Who knows what it will be capable of in the next few years.
  2. Dungeness on the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway can either be pleasant or bleak, depending on the weather. The area feels like it belongs in another world, and yet London is not that far away when you really think about it. Here is a shot from the top of the Old Lighthouse from 2011.
  3. My club's (Erith MRS) show at The Longfield Academy (not far away from Brands Hatch) on the weekend of 25th & 26th January 2020. I also attended the CMRA Show in Stevenage the fortnight before.
  4. I did an article about the Great Train Robbery for my club's fanzine and also visited a temporary exhibition about the robbery at the London Postal Museum last year. The driver Jack Mills as a result of head injuries sustained during the assault was unable to return to work and suffered constant trauma headaches for the rest of his life. He died of unrelated leukaemia in 1970. The secondman David Whitby never recovered from his track-side assault and subsequent rough treatment. However he was able to resume his career but died of a heart attack in 1972 aged only 34. The Class 40 No. D326, later No. 40 126, and the carriages that were robbed were all cut in haste to stop any souvenir hunters (both railway and crime collectors) from pillaging them. One of the Post Office carriages that formed part of the train, though not part of the robbery, is preserved at the Nene Valley Railway. The locomotive was offered to the National Railway Museum because of its infamous history but they declined. A number of the gang evaded justice one way or another, including the inside man known only as 'The Ulsterman', who was not present at the robbery, received a share of the loot, was never captured and has not yet been positively identified.
  5. The Committee of the Erith Model Railway Society have decided with regret to CANCEL our Longfield Exhibition scheduled to take place over the weekend of 30th & 31st January 2021. Given that the pandemic remains and the situations seems to be changing almost on a daily basis, we feel that we have little choice but to cancel now. Our intention is to hold our next show on the weekend of 29th & 30th January 2022.
  6. I can recommend Epson printers that have an 'eco-tank' whereby you fill the ink tanks (there are four, Black, Yellow, Magenta and Cyan) with bottles. There are no cartridges at all, and ink consumption is very liberal. My Mother who is into card making says it is one of the best investments she has made. For me it is very useful for printing off paper copies of the quarterly 'fanzine' that I produce for my fellow members of the Erith MRS.
  7. I have a 28xx Class (catalogue number R2917) that has the Lion mark on the outer sleeve. It is also on the back of the outer sleeve of the London Olympics 1948 Train Pack.
  8. W M Collectables has quite a number of interesting items from yesteryear from looking at his stand at exhibitions over the years and are a regular trader at my club's (Erith MRS) shows for many years. Andrew is a interesting person, as his father served in the Free Polish Legion in WWII and understandably did not want to return to Poland, which as we all know became a Soviet satellite state, after the war.
  9. Francis Webb of the London & North Western Railway. He is listed in Stephen Pile's 1980 book The Book of Heroic Failures as 'The Worst Locomotive Designer'. Pile writes that a book (which he does not mention the title of) lists Webb in the index as: 'Webb, Francis - his incompetence'. Many people did not understand what he saw in the 2-(2-2)-0 designs such as the Experiment Class. D.E. Marsh of the LBSCR is also up there in my opinion, especially for designing the I1 Class which I believe had a pejorative nickname.
  10. The Hornby Large Prairie thread can be found here: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/140665-Hornby-new-tooling-large-prairie/ As far as I am aware it was never locked in the first place, but as this is a duplicate thread this one can.
  11. I remember doing something like this as a Christmas Quiz for my model railway club's magazine a few years ago. Here are a few of the many I found (that made the UK Singles Chart): Last Train To London by ELO. Train Of Thought by A-Ha. (Waiting For) The Ghost Train by Madness. Down In The Tube Station At Midnight by The Jam. Electric Trains by Squeeze. Last Train To Trancentral by The KLF.
  12. Another favourite in my archive is this one taken in the queue to get into the last Open Day at Old Oak Common in September 2017.
  13. Here is a comparison photo of the Hornby Rolvenden model with the Dapol/Rails Bodiam model.
  14. Sueperman's Big Sister by Ian Dury & The Blockheads.
  15. RH&DR No.5 Hercules entering Dymchurch station, New Romney bound, back in July 2010.
  16. Erith MRS Chairman Alan Bone has asked me to let it be known that the Robertsbridge Exhibition (which he is involved in the organisation of), due to take place on the weekend of the 23rd & 24th May has been cancelled. The entry for this show on UK Model Shop Directory already lists it as cancelled.
  17. In light of the Government's announcements on Monday 16th March 2020, the Committee of the Erith MRS have decided to make the following announcements: With immediate effect the club rooms will be closed with club nights cancelled for the foreseeable future. The situation will be reviewed at the end of April and an update will be provided. The decision to re-open the club will be based on whatever guidance is available at the time, taking into consideration the wider public health situation. Also, the club's upcoming Annual General Meeting has been postponed.
  18. And here is another comparison photo.
  19. I have. Well actually it is my brother's. The new one is on the right. The one on the left is the old tooling in the same livery.
  20. The Ashford MRC's website consists of that flyer and err.... that's it. Even the exhibition entry on UK Model Shop Directory lacks the names of any layouts, traders, societies and other exhibitors.
  21. After some discussion the Wilmington Model Railway Exhibition committee have decided that we will have to cancel this year's (2020) exhibition. With the guidelines as they are on social distancing and the controls we would have to put in place, we feel that we cannot run a safe exhibition for exhibitors, traders, volunteers and the public. And we also appreciate clubs have not been able to meet to discuss who may attend the exhibition and to do any layout maintenance. We are aiming to run the 2021 exhibition on the 9th October 2021, and if you are interested in attending with your layout or trade stand, please let us know and we will carry over your details to next year's exhibition.

The buses stop at Longfield St. Marys Way, Longfield Brickfields Farm and/or Longfield Railway Station. All stops are 5-10 minute walk from the venue. Some services may stop at Longfield Academy itself. Ask the driver when you board if in doubt. There are NO Sunday services for the 423, 474 and 475 routes. There is a sizeable free on-site car park, full disabled access (including toilets), a large refreshment area (200+ seats) and an extensive range of hot and cold food and drinks at reasonable prices. There is some off-site parking available at a day nursery in Brickfield Farm just up the road from the venue (5 minute walk away), should we run out (and we usually do) of on-site parking. Alternatively, park in Longfield Railway Station car park (pay-and-display) and catch the Shuttle Bus to the venue.
  23. On behalf of the Erith MRS, our deepest sympathies goes out to Kerry and their children, the rest of the their family, friends and colleagues at Invicta Model Rail.
