  1. Similar story in The Professionals. The show's producers got fed up with British Leyland sending them a different coloured car, a Triumph Dolomite for Bodie, for each block of filming they did. As a result of this poor continuity, the producers got in contact with Ford who gave them the same Capri for as long as they needed it.
  2. After doing a quick search of the forum I could not find a topic about darts in the Wheeltappers section, so I have created one. To kick off, I am not entirely sold on the new format for the Premier League due to commence on Thursday 3rd February, whereby the 8 selected players will be placed in a knock-out bracket every Thursday night for 16 weeks. The 8 players are guarantee to meet each once in the first round/quarter finals for the first 7 weeks and for weeks 9 to 15, with the draw for weeks 8 and 16 determined by the league standings. All games are best of 11 legs, with players receiving 2 points for reaching the semis, 3 points for the losing finalist, and 5 points for the winner of the night. The top 4 in the league after week 16 goes to the play-off night where as before, 1st plays 4th and 2nd plays 3rd for spots in the final. The previous round-robin format saw 10 selected players with the bottom two players in the league eliminated after week 9 and the remaining 8 players face each other once more for the remaining 7 weeks, with the top 4 going to the play-offs. As for the players who will be participating in the Premier League in 2022, I believe it will be Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, Michael van Gerwen, James Wade, Michael Smith, Gary Anderson, Jonny Clayton and Rob Cross. Before all that starts there is the Masters on 28th to 30th January, broadcast on ITV4.
  3. Sportcar racing should become interesting with the convergence of cars built to Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) and Le Mans Daytona hybrid (LMDh) rules agreed to by the ACO and IMSA. So far, Toyota, Glickenhaus, Peugeot and ByKolles have built cars to LMH rules with Ferrari to follow hopefully next year. Manufacturers committed to the LMDh rules include Acura, Alpine, Audi, BMW, Cadillac and Porsche. Peugeot's new car which has no rear spoiler, the 9X8, will hopefully be racing this year in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), with its blue ribbon round, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, on 11th & 12th June. I can see the GT2 cars used in the GT classes in the WEC and at Le Mans being replaced by comparatively cheaper GT3 cars.
  4. Even if the show for 2022 could have gone ahead, there would have been no guarantee that we would get the numbers through the door like we did in 2020 and the years beforehand. There are plenty of people out there who are still uncomfortable about going out to public places like to the supermarket. This includes a few of our members who have not been down to our clubrooms since we reopened in late July 2021. A note for your diaries: our 2023 show will be on the weekend of 28th & 29th January 2023.
  5. I personally was hoping to see some familiar and friendly faces that I have not seen since our January 2020 Show and ask them how they have been since then. Alas the wait goes on. Ever since I joined the Erith MRS in mid-2009 I have always given a helping hand at our exhibitions and over the years I get to know the regular invitees and attendees, what is involved in organising and running an exhibition, and how much time and effort goes into it. And as someone who does the less glamourous but essential jobs at the show such as car park marshalling, it is not easy. It is disappointing that we had to cancel, but it is what it is.
  6. I have received a statement from the Club's Exhibition Manager Paul Plummer: "It is with regret that I am writing to advise we have taken the decision to CANCEL our forthcoming exhibition at the Longfield Academy". "Given the rapidly escalating Covid situation (due to the new Omicron variant) and the recently implemented government requirement that all indoor unseated events with more than 500 attendees require Covid passes, we feel that it would no longer appropriate to proceed with this exhibition. Furthermore the current and on-going pandemic means that the exhibition is becoming increasingly unviable from a commercial perspective and as a result the committee agreed with my recommendation to cancel the exhibition". "We hope to be able to return to Longfield in 2023!" "Regards, Paul".
  7. In light of the new Government measures surrounding Covid Passports, I am advising that the Committee of the Erith MRS have agreed to CANCEL our upcoming January Show. As the exhibition is a large unseated indoor event that is likely to have more than 500 present (not just visitors but exhibitors, traders, etc.), we would have to ask all attendees (including exhibitors) to provide proof of a Covid Passport. From our perspective this is not practical for us manage. I will post a statement from the Club's Exhibition Manager Paul Plummer on this thread once I have received it. Sorry we had to make this decision and thank you for your understanding.
  8. Fascinating Horror compared to a lot of other content on YouTube is pretty good. Their content is not 'clickbait' and as their channel description says they "tell the true stories behind some of history's greatest disasters... but without sensationalism or disturbing imagery". 'Disturbing imagery' on YouTube often gets videos demonetised and/or age restricted. I can also recommend Plainly Difficult who also covers disasters and accidents from history, and Ruairidh MacVeigh who does short transport history documentaries including that on Britain's railways and locomotive classes.
  9. Yes, Black Prince has two 'siblings' in the UK. Both of them run on the Waveney Valley Railway at Bressingham Steam Museum & Gardens. Rosenkavalier and Männertreu are both out of service requiring overhauls. Like Black Prince (original name Fleißiges Lieschen or Busy Lizzie in English), the locomotives were built by Krupp of Essen in 1937 for Trade Fair in Dusseldorf. The three were imported to Britain in the 1970s.
  10. One thing I forgot to say was that the gangways/aisles in the main sports hall (Edinburgh Hall) seem to me to be a bit wider this year (understandable considering what has been happening in the wider world since mid-March 2020). I have also noticed that SP Rail has uploaded some footage of the show on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47CJrrd06QI
  11. I visited this morning and the show is still up to its very good standards, with some quality layouts on display (St. George's Dock pictured). Thank you to the Hampton Court MRS for putting on this exhibition. The cafe just down the road has changed hands and its name from my last visit in 2019, but importantly breakfast there is still good and it sets you up for the day.
  12. The RH&DR tend to have flags on the front of their locomotives on galas, certain special event days, and on special trains, such as the end of season special train for the members of the RH&DR Association.
  13. At the time of writing, it is advice and, though we recommend that visitors should, the wearing of a face covering is down to them. I will be wearing one when inside and I suspect many others will be too. As I work in a supermarket, a fair few people have not been bothering, even when it was mandatory. At the end of the day you can't legislate morals.
  14. I was thinking of Tom Brady, Antonio Brown and Ndamukong Suh on the current Tampa Bay roster.
  15. I too have a set of Coil A/KAVs where the coupling hook is on the opposite side compared to all my other stock. I could replace them with some Bachmann 36-061 couplings. The wagons themselves are still nonetheless quality.
  16. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not win their first NFL game until the 13th week of their second season in 1977. Their head coach at the time John McKay was once asked what he thought of his team's execution, he said 'I'm in favour of it'. Now the Bucs are now owned by the Glazer family, have won the Super Bowl twice and have some very good but yet polarising players. The New Orleans Saints had 20 straight years without a winning record or qualifying for the post-season. They did eventually make the Super Bowl and won it in February 2010. Though since then there was Bountygate, where the NFL accused the team of paying out bonuses for injuring opposing players. This led to many key staff and players being suspended, fines, forfeited draft picks, etc. The last time the Detroit Lions won something for the NFC Central Championship in the 1993 season. January 1992 is the only time in the Super Bowl era that the team won a post-season game. The franchise have four NFL Championships, all won before the Super Bowl era, in 1935, 1952, 1953 and 1957.
  17. One guy I watch on YouTube for takes on North American sports, including the NFL, is UrinatingTree. He uses the term 'lowcow' to describe many teams that have significant problems. His style is not for everyone, but it is entertaining enough to amass 489K subscribers (myself include) to his YouTube channel. He also not above to roasting his own team Pittsburgh. I take after my Dad and follow the Miami Dolphins in the NFL and the New York Mets in MLB. Could be worse I could be a supporter of the Detroit Lions, 'The Franchise of Eternal Irrelevance'.
  18. The TfL service buses that run from Surbiton station to Southborough High School (the nearest stop to Tolworth Recreation Centre) include the K4, 71, and 465. The K4 picks up at Stop NN in St. Marks Hill, while the 71 and 465 picks up at Stop NK in Claremont Road. The walk from the bus stop is parallel with the Kingston Bypass (not pleasant when it is raining), but does take you pass the Ace of Spades Cafe where you can have breakfast.
  19. The Erith Model Railway Society's January Exhibition, one of South East England's largest shows (and probably Kent's largest by stand numbers), will return to the Longfield Academy for our 6th show there. Unless the situation regarding Covid changes, there are currently NO major restrictions being imposed by the venue. But we would strongly advise that visitors MUST wear a face covering, unless exempt, when inside the exhibition. Catering, at the time of writing, will accept cash. Venue address: The Longfield Academy, Main Road (B260), Longfield, Kent, DA3 7PH. Opening Times: Saturday 29th January 2022 - 10:00am to 5:00pm & Sunday 30th January 2022 - 10:00am to 4:00pm. Entry Prices: Adults - £9.00. Accompanied Children - £1.00. Entry price includes free exhibition guide. The venue can be reached by Longfield railway station (5-10 minute walk away), Arriva bus services 423 (From Dartford and Bluewater), 433 (From Bluewater, Sunday only) and 489 (From Gravesend), and Go-Coach bus services 474 and 475 (Both from Bluewater). The buses stop within a 5-10 minute walk from the venue. Some services may stop at Longfield Academy itself, but ask the driver for the nearest stop to the venue. There are no Sunday services for the 423, 474 and 475 routes. There is a sizeable free on-site car park, full disabled access (including toilets), a large refreshment area (200+ seats) and an extensive range of hot and cold food and drinks at reasonable prices. There is some off-site parking available at a day nursery in Brickfield Farm just up the road from the venue (5 minute walk away), should we run out (and we usually do) of on-site parking. There will be a FREE Shuttle Bus service running between Longfield Railway Station and the Longfield Academy on BOTH days of the show. So if you cannot get parked at the venue or the day nursery in Brickfield Farm, you can park at Longfield Railway Station Car Park (pay-and-display) and catch the shuttle bus to the venue. Please check our website for further details (directions etc.). I will post an updated list of exhibition attendees once I receive it. http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/erithmrs/exhibit_january.html Thank You.
  20. Visited this nice little local show this morning. Thank you to the Beckenham & West Wickham MRC for putting on this show. It was just pleasant to meet some old acquaintances I have not seen in 21 months.
  21. Ian Hislop did once present a one-off documentary for the BBC called Ian Hislop Goes Off The Rails a few years ago, where he covers the state of Britain's railways in the run-up to the publication of Dr. Beeching's Reshaping Report, the Report itself and the fallout and aftermath from it. Hislop also briefly goes into the archives of Private Eye to see what his predecessors made of the Reshaping Report at the time. This documentary can be found, though incomplete, on YouTube.
  22. Received my BR Lined Black one. All four of the buffers were off and so too was the cab roof (all of which can be secured by a spot of glue), but all the other details are there and not damaged. The right side tender emblem facing the wrong way is annoying, but it still does not detract that the model is pretty sound.
  23. I am probably not the only one who can narrow it down to three, but I would have to go with: 1. Ally Pally - For the sheer scale of the event, quality and quantity of layouts, the huge number of traders (some of whom don't normally venture this far south) and you have the opportunity to talk to people from the manufactures and others involved in the industry. 2. Folkestone - Normally has a large number of quality layouts and (though the layout of the venue is not ideal for those who have mobility issues) you have a magnificent view across the English Channel (see image below), if the weather is good that is. 3. Tolworth - I am always been impressed by the quality of the layouts that are on show and they have one or two useful traders in attendance that I don't come across at other shows I visit. Others that I tend to visit are Chiltern Show at Stevenage, Tonbridge, Ilford & West Essex MRC's show in Romford, Fort Pitt in Chatham, Faversham, Wilmington and Beckenham & West Wickham MRC's show in Eden Park. I have not included my club's (Erith MRS) show (currently in Longfield not far away from Brands Hatch) because that would be bias, but many others have said it is very good show.
  24. Steve was a familiar face at exhibitions in South London and North Kent for as long as I can remember. A skilled modeller and nice guy who will definitely be missed. Rest in Peace Steve.
