  1. I believe either TNT (formerly BT) or Viaplay has the UK broadcasting rights to the Bathurst 1000 and the rest of the Australian Supercars races.
  2. I have changed the front driving wheels on my D1 Class to a spare set of driving wheels with traction tyres for the D Class. The haulage performance of my D1 has definitively improved. The D Class has the instructions and a tool that (un)tightening up the bolts that holds the coupling rods, which are not provided with the D1. Following said instructions and using the tool, it is not a hard job to change the wheel sets. But extreme care must be taken with the coupling rod bolts, as they are tiny and very difficult to put back into place. Thank you to Peter's Spares for your excellent service and turnaround (ordered on Tuesday lunchtime; delivered on Wednesday morning) and to phil-b259 for posted those links.
  3. I think the Jacksonville Jaguars would be, if any, the next team in the NFL to relocate. They have quite a small fanbase and fans in the state of Florida tend to support the other teams in the state (Miami or Tampa Bay), or said fans actually hail from another state and support what was their local team. If the Jags were to go anywhere else, I reckon it could be Orlando, St. Louis (which was home to the Rams), or even Memphis (which was the temporary 'home' for the Oilers before they became the Titans). Those three cities had at one point a team in either the WFL, USFL, XFL, CFL (yes, the Canadian Football League expanded into the US in the mid-1990s) and/or AAF, and had decent support for their teams before the leagues went belly-up or contracted.
  4. Remember the time that Formula One had pre-qualifying? Back in the 1980s and 1990s there were a number of minnows who had go through this on Friday mornings in an attempt to make the main show. All of these teams would be laughed out of the building today.
  5. My interest in sports came from my Dad, and I ended up following the teams he follows: Chelsea in association football, Miami Dolphins in the NFL, and New York Mets in MLB. We differ when it comes to the NBA; he follows the LA Lakers and I follow the Chicago Bulls. We don't have a team in the NHL that we follow especially. I just want one of the Canadian teams to end the country's drought of Stanley Cups. Dan Marino was definitively my Dad's favourite favourite player, and I can understand why. It is a shame Marino never won a Super Bowl ring, but there are many other great players who never did, such as Randy Moss.
  6. This weekend there is WRC from Chile, NASCAR from Talladega, and MotoGP from Motegi, Japan.
  7. One sports writer, Jon Bois, sums up the New York Jets: "The Jets don't play football; football just sort of happens to them".
  8. Week 3 NFL results: New York Giants 12-30 San Francisco 49ers Chicago Bears 10-41 Kansas City Chiefs Dallas Cowboys 16-28 Arizona Cardinals Carolina Panthers 27-37 Seattle Seahawks Atlanta Falcons 6-20 Detroit Lions Tennessee Titans 3-27 Cleveland Browns Houston Texans 37-17 Jacksonville Jaguars Denver Broncos 20-70 Miami Dolphins Los Angeles Chargers 28-24 Minnesota Vikings New England Patriots 15-10 New York Jets Indianapolis Colts 22-19 Baltimore Ravens Buffalo Bills 37-3 Washington Commanders New Orleans Saints 17-18 Green Bay Packers Pittsburgh Steelers 23-18 Las Vegas Raiders Los Angeles Rams 16-19 Cincinnati Bengals Philadelphia Eagles 25-11 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  9. The draw for the World Grand Prix, the double-to-start tournament, has been made. The top 16 from the Order of Merit (but only the top 8 are seeded), plus the top 16 non-qualified players from the ProTour Order of Merit make up the 32 player field. The tournament starts on 2nd October and concludes on 8th October, takes place at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, and is broadcast on Sky Sports. Michael van Gerwen is the defending champion of this event, and also recently won the World Series of Darts Finals 11-4 against Nathan Aspinall. Dave Chisnall is most recent winner on circuit, beating Luke Humphries 8-7 to win the Hungarian Darts Trophy. The World Grand Prix draw bracket looks like this: (1) Michael Smith (ENG) Vs Callan Rydz (ENG) Dirk van Duijvenbode (NED) Vs Brendan Dolan (NIR) (8) Rob Cross (ENG) Vs Andrew Gilding (ENG) Jose de Sousa (POR) Vs Gary Anderson (SCO) (4) Gerwyn Price (WAL) Vs Danny Noppert (NED) Krzysztof Ratajski (POL) Vs James Wade (ENG) (5) Nathan Aspinall (ENG) Vs Stephen Bunting (ENG) Martin Schindler (GER) Vs Raymond van Barneveld (NED) (2) Michael van Gerwen (NED) Vs Josh Rock (NIR) Dimitri Van den Bergh (BEL) Vs Chris Dobey (ENG) (7) Jonny Clayton (WAL) Vs Ross Smith (ENG) Joe Cullen (ENG) Vs Mike De Decker (BEL) (3) Peter Wright (SCO) Vs Gabriel Clemens (GER) Damon Heta (AUS) Vs Ryan Searle (ENG) (6) Luke Humphries (ENG) Vs Daryl Gurney (NIR) Dave Chisnall (ENG) Vs Luke Woodhouse (ENG)
  10. I and my brother visited on the Saturday. It was definitively claustrophobic in the engine shed at Tunbridge Wells West and the trains were pretty full. Nevertheless we had a good time, rode on both the trains running and had two round trips on the railway. Looking at the car parking arrangements in the area, the Spa Valley Railway is definitively one to visit by train. In my case, I went to Tunbridge Wells and walked across town, and it is not as far as you think, to Tunbridge Wells West. The only thing that we were disappointed about was 828 not running again, which is beyond their control.
  11. Will there be a shuttle bus service between the Dockyard and Chatham station?
  12. This weekend there is BTCC from Silverstone, DTM from the Red Bull Ring, NASCAR from Texas, and MotoGP from the Buddh International Circuit, India (assuming that all the teams and riders can get their necessary visas on time).
  13. Week 2 NFL results: Minnesota Vikings 28-34 Philadelphia Eagles Washington Commanders 35-33 Denver Broncos New York Jets 10-30 Dallas Cowboys San Francisco 49ers 30-23 Las Angeles Rams New York Giants 31-28 Arizona Cardinals Green Bay Packers 24-25 Atlanta Falcons Chicago Bears 17-27 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Los Angeles Chargers 24-27 Tennessee Titans Las Vegas Raiders 10-38 Buffalo Bills Kansas City Chiefs 17-9 Jacksonville Jaguars Indianapolis Colts 31-20 Houston Texans Seattle Seahawks 37-31 Detroit Lions Baltimore Ravens 27-24 Cincinnati Bengals Miami Dolphins 24-17 New England Patriots Cleveland Browns 22-26 Pittsburgh Steelers New Orleans Saints 20-17 Carolina Panthers
  14. Erith MRS members' layouts Bletchinghurst and Crumbling Edge are due to be attending.
  15. This weekend there IMSA from Indianapolis, NASCAR from Bristol, Tennessee, and Australian Supercars from Sandown, Victoria.
  16. Trying to demolish houses using ex-military vehicles. And countless others. The chemistry between the three was just brilliant.
  17. The original and infamous incarnation of the XFL in 2001 had black balls with a red 'X' going across the sides. I believe the ill-fated World Football League of the mid-1970s used balls that were not all brown.
  18. Week 1 of the 2023 NFL Season has concluded. The results are as follows: Detroit Lions 21-20 Kansas City Chiefs Los Angeles Rams 30-13 Seattle Seahawks Philadelphia Eagles 25-20 New England Patriots Miami Dolphins 36-34 Los Angeles Chargers Las Vegas Raiders 17-16 Denver Broncos Green Bay Packers 38-20 Chicago Bears Arizona Cardinals 16-20 Washington Commanders Carolina Panthers 10-24 Atlanta Falcons Tennessee Titans 15-16 New Orleans Saints Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-17 Minnesota Vikings Jacksonville Jaguars 31-21 Indianapolis Colts Cincinnati Bengals 3-24 Cleveland Browns Houston Texans 9-25 Baltimore Ravens San Francisco 49ers 30-7 Pittsburgh Steelers Dallas Cowboys 40-0 New York Giants Buffalo Bills 16-22 New York Jets
  19. It has been a while, but the next TV tournament, the World Series of Darts Finals, is this weekend at the AFAS Live in Amsterdam starting Friday 15th and concluding on Sunday 17th. The seeded players enter in the second round. The draw bracket looks like this: (1) Rob Cross (ENG) Vs Jonny Clayton (WAL)/Martin Schindler (GER) (8) Luke Humphries (ENG) Vs Daniel Klose (GER)/Krzysztof Ratajski (POL) (4) Michael van Gerwen (NED) Vs Gabriel Clemens (GER)/William O'Connor (IRE) (5) Dimitri Van den Bergh (BEL) Vs Damon Heta (AUS)/Ricky Evans (ENG) (2) Gerwyn Price (WAL) Vs Keegan Brown (ENG)/Simon Whitlock (AUS) (7) Nathan Aspinall (ENG) Vs Dirk van Duijvenbode (NED)/Danny Noppert (NED) (3) Michael Smith (ENG) Vs Raymond van Barneveld (NED)/Jeff Smith (CAN) (6) Peter Wright (SCO) Vs Graham Usher (ENG)/Haupai Puha (NZL) The PDC have also unveiled their calendar for 2024. 20. Thank you to the Faversham MRC for another very good show. One suggestion for next time; perhaps some more chairs in the hallway outside of the refreshment area.
  21. This weekend there is the Acropolis Rally (the Greek round of the WRC), WEC from Fuji, DTM from the Sachsenring, IndyCar from Laguna Seca (the final round of the season), MotoGP from Misano, British GT from Brands Hatch, and the Goodwood Revival.
  22. The Airfix girder bridge kit is mentioned in this video uploaded by the official Gerry Anderson channel (run by his son Jamie) on YouTube. There is plenty of other videos of interest on the channel.
  23. Is an exhibition lost even before it ever took place? Because I remember in the early 2010s (2011 I believe) of what promised to be quite a large show that was meant to be happening at the Kent County Showgrounds in Detling, but it was then abruptly cancelled. Does anyone know more about this? Another lost exhibition is the Wilmington Charity Model Railway Exhibitions, which took place in the Church and Church Hall of St. Michael's & All Angels in Wilmington, just outside Dartford. The now retired Rev. Richard Arding played a part in the organisation of these shows and he now a volunteer down at the Spa Valley Railway. My club, the Erith Model Railway Society (EMRS), gave material and other support for these shows. We were also involved in the exhibitions that took place in early June at Firepower - The Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich between 2008 and 2012 (the museum closed in July 2016). The EMRS also had a smaller exhibition in September until after the 2018 show, when the Committee took the decision to cease organising it because increasing costs and falling visitors numbers. The EMRS still organises a big exhibition on the final full weekend in January, currently at Longfield.
