  1. I highlighted why in my original post. You admitted your not a Heljan fan, its not my role to try to convince otherwise. Nothing wrong with older models Ive been collecting for 40 years. so no argument on either point. good luck to you. There has never been a perfect model made, ever in history. Everyone has something if you look hard enough. So holding high esteem of one, whilst knocking another, is a bit of pointless kettle /pot calling, which was my veiled point. we've never had it so good... I wish people appreciate that. I am very excited by D6515, I think many people will be too. Heljan has made some very exciting 33’s this year.. 33050/1 are in my view fantastic, Ive plans on 2x33/1’s, one of which will finally replace my aged Lima 33105, Ive had since c1991. The EWS 33 pictured above is becoming very hard to ignore. As of today my most treasured 33 is Lima 33008 Eastleigh as I saw it myself back in the late 1980’s, ive never seen it accurately modelled as I saw it on the day since.. its going nowhere! However D6515 at Wimbledon in March was the last loco I saw in real life before this lockdown started, and brought umpteen memories of 33008 did 30 years ago... I dont care if the line is 1 RAL shade off white...
  2. Could be worse, some day it may end up being called “Reading Railway Experience centre”, or even a “Paddington Transit Terminal”.
  3. No Lima wasnt, I still have several, they even used white plastic on those green livery models, rather than standard yellow. Hornby has only made 1 green 33, and no 26/27s. Enjoy the underframes on your Lima 33’s, and that white plastic does yellow with age.
  4. Buy that one then if it floats your boat. i used to buy them occasionally as a cheap chassis for my Lima 26/27/33 they scrub up well. however since a Heljan chassis can be secured for a lesser price I stopped there too.
  5. I’m going to put the number 10001 on my letter box now.
  6. Afaik Heljan has only ever used white stripes on its green 26/27 and 33’s. If its any consolation, my Lima ones were also white, and it fades with age naturally. its unfortunate but its consistent with their others, and if you want D6515 you've only 3 choices, buy it, do it yourself or do without. I still think its going to sell well, given those options.
  7. Could always consider changing the nameplate to its new reflection, and auction the old for the NHS ? (though I’d consider giving Captain Tom the other plate).
  8. Looks like it’s got a blue door in that picture (the open one).
  9. I sometimes wonder if some dogs do some dining in these threads too.
  10. I disagree. This is a review of the Dapol Rails Terrier. The word “Hornby” is used 15 times, 4 times encouraged (retooling of future new Hornby model x2, generic reference to “Hornby standard” and 2x negatively (length, incorrect guard irons, buffers all placed in the same sentence). The word “Rails ” is used just 4 times in context of the Retailer (excluding coal rails etc). Reading the article, I think it details the short comings quite consistently throughout the review, with the Rails model. i feel informed of the Rails short comings, but not of its praises, additionally not Hornby's deficiencies (its either a perfect model or just not mentioned). The review reveals inside information on Hornbys future plans for the tooling, which I dont feel is relevant in an impartial review of a competitors product, and neglects to mention one of the biggest differentiators of the two models (the firebox flickr). [Edit: my error it does, negatively] my conclusion is, whilst informative, and definitely worth a read, but to find this not impartial. I have however decided to not buy the current new Hornby terrier, beyond one I have planned, as its suggested theres another iteration to be tooled in the future, so imho its wiser to wait and see.
  11. Fantastic... i knew this was coming.. in the last month no less than 4 highly prized Silver Fox kits hit ebay so I wasimmediately suspicious...smoke theres fire. excellant choice, i’m down for two potentially 3... this has to be one of the bigger untapped model railway prizes, and the real thing has another surprise yet to be revealed.
  12. I disagree I’ve never seen a WCRC 33 that dirty. They are afterall charter train locos, and spend much time “on depot”. They tend to keep their locos fairly clean, indeed I’m surprised they would agree to model a dirty one, its not good for their brand image.
  13. So I’ve looked and this is the only interior picture of a BG I’ve taken... this one would confirm the floor...
  14. https://www.dccsupplies.com/item-p-114703/class-68-oo-gauge-drs-blue-68026-body-shell.htm £40 - 5 in stock.
  15. I got that email today too.... by the sounds of it, you shouldn’t wait too long.
  16. The memory there was that bright red stretcher that was in E9356, plus fire beaters made out of sweep brushes and left over bits of water tank bags.
  17. Already proven to be inaccurate twice: I. demonstrated that the 108 ton Nohab with a GM power unit was available in 1954. ii. It was built in Europe... iii. Pictures on my above post show the oodles of engine room space spare.. at least 60cm engine room walk space each side.. I have walked straight through the Hungarian ones,.. and I’m quite “round” in shape... the overall width isn’t that far from UK spec. Do you have a source that says GM refused to supply power units to the UK, as opposed to whole locos.. ? As it was counter to what they have done in several countries for several decades, indeed look at our very own class 57’s and 69’s today. The EMD 567 was an engine sold by quota since WW2, for all material uses, indeed as GM didn’t build ships, they had no choice but to supply power units separately for those. In addition they were supplying 1750hp 567’s to Spain for locos built there... BR wasn’t building 1750hp+ diesels in the 1950’s...except 22 Deltics. i find that spurious to think they would spite themselves that way, on such a large potential customer.. that’s very unAmerican..It is however quite British to find an excuse not to spend money, and go with the cheapest solution.
  18. BGs and BSKs had a metal plug hole in the concrete, as a kid I was fascinated at being able to look at the track through a circular 3” diameter Or so plug hole in the centre of the floor. Things like ladders were strapped at the ends of the interior, and a spare lamp. The guards compartment had linoleum or like on the floor, it wasn’t hard concrete, but in BR days you couldn’t tell the difference in colour. the exterior window’ed door.. some of these had short length black chains with a hook on the angled Grab handle.
  19. Ive not see a real loco since 8th March.... 71 days !
  20. Aw shucks.. I just filled mine with water and set it to15v. No where did it say don’t cross the streams, now this thing exploded out and is haunting all my trains... I looked this morning and it had dismantled everything.. so I sent up the experts into my loft and this is their video... There advice is if there’s something strange, ..in your water tower Who yah gonna call... Model Shop !!! If there’s something wired, .. and aint 9volts who yah gonna call... Model Shop !!! I ain’t afraid of 12Volts I ain’t afraid of 12Volts If your seeing plastic bits,.. lying In the 4ft who yah gonna call... Model Shop !!! If you’ve got strange trains,.. running tender first who yah gonna call... Model Shop !!!
  21. Unfortunately Silver LNER tenders are in short supply. Even older 1980’s tender drives ones will fetch towards £40+ Theres a ready supply of LNER silver A4’s (all 4 of them from AC models, for a reasonable price, but no tenders). Thought train is perhaps these are spares from the last Hornby limited edition, which of course as a spare’s source didnt have a tender... and hence buyers of these are chasing the same target tender driving that demand. Ebay as always your best bet, or when exhibitions re-open, to find one in a stall holders tray. Theres plenty of tender spares out there, so if you can save the body, getting the bits may be easier.
  22. Body or full loco, boxed or unboxed. good condition body ideally, the rest I don't care.
  23. the loco should work out of the box. As sold new its DCC ready, not DCC fitted. Try a 9v battery touching the wheels, it should go at moderate speed. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-Volt-Alkaline-Batteries-Pack-White/dp/B00MH4QM1S/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=9+volt+battery&qid=1589751492&s=electronics&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzQUxVTVNXU1hXU0VYJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDgyMzE4M0dWNjg4Q05URjBNWSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjQyNzYxWUYxM1RQUE9KTkg2JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
  24. Ive had the same happen to me, the buffer is available from DCC supplies. https://www.dccsupplies.com/item-p-112188/class-68-oo-buffer-pair-buffer-spring-sleeve.htm ive used them to fix Sudexpress Euro4000 also. just pull out the old fitting and fit in the new. You can buy the individual bits and try to fix it, but this is the lazy way, for the sake of a few quid.
  25. A quick update, Oliver at Rails has been in touch and offered a replacement, unprompted and on his weekend ! Good man. Definitely want a replacement not a return, this a lovely model, Definitely reccomend the firebox flicker. Ive already folded and ordered the IOW SR Green and a GWR one this am too.. I feel a night time running session coming on later next week.
