  1. It has been done and makes a big difference to the model.Mine was treated to Modelmaster plates & cab numbers. Not that I did it,of course but I know a guy who does. Believe me,it is worth going the extra mile.
  2. And?.......etched plates,of course.
  3. I am dithering over a purchase of this paricular Castle as the tender lettering and crest make my eyes go misty as a representation of a Castle of my childhood....this one "copped" way back in my short -trousered days. Rob....you are pushing me closer to tipping point. i really mustn't...?
  4. As,indeed was my experience when I purchased a DP2 some time ago,for a bargain price....only the lights at one end were not working.
  5. And how long before the returns are recycled by Hattons in some way or on e bay by Olivia's Trains,as has recently been the case with some Heljan returns? Sincere sympathies. The postings I have read are discouraging,I would have to say. It's a shame.
  6. Locomotion Models have them now....get in touch with Sandra....don't wait around.
  7. Indeed it was in both cases, fortunately.I can't but,as they say,I know a man who does.Alex used his skills and knowledge to effect the right sort of performance. It is a cost cutting exercise on Hornby's part.Fine if it's correctly assembled,of course but often it is not.Way back in January, when I first received R 3191 from Hattons, most of their batch exhibited identical problems and were 'returns'.Should you have the courage to take R 3207 apart you don't need me to tell you to be very careful.Good luck and happily running with yours. She really is a head turner, whatever the little niggles might be.
  8. Indeed,so am I pleased for you......mine did not, until insulating tape was applied to the appropriate area.It is the same set up as on the D o G,R3191 and the performance of that now is excellent,as is R3207 after initial failure.Provided the assembly is correct ( and it sometimes is not ) no one should notice any appreciable difference from the usual Hornby wired-through tender pick up system. If there are problems with hesitant performance, you may have to look elsewhere for the solution, not just the wipers See post 1630 above.
  9. And for those of you needing one, according to the Kernow website, they are availableto purchase there ,so their newsletter just received informs us.
  10. I'm forgetting the obvious progression.....and I'm staying on topic here.....that the next C1 Atlantic, should Locomotion so choose, would be one in wartime black. Those of you who have a copy of Dick Hardy's "A Life On The Lines",may see a photo of 4406 ex works at Doncaster in 1943. He writes that "........ no wonder with a 32 element superheater these engines were 'world beaters'.The livery is shown to perfection. From 1941,if not before, all engines were turned out of Doncaster and other works in unlined black and the painting was not done in the paint shop but on the engine as it was being assembled by us ! "
  11. No hope for us then,is there.....have to call AA.....Atlantics Anonymous, maybe help available for addicts ?
  12. What are you worried about ? I had three such moments...in quick succession.
  13. Nice...but you have an excellent retailer in Cardiff in the form of Lord & Butler.Sorry if I'm off topic on this one but in fairness to them,I couldn't let that one pass by.
  14. The world of model railways would be the poorer without them....like my bank balance really as a long term customer.More to come...
  15. In all of this, has anyone taken the simple course of action of contacting Jadlam to establish their stock situation ? It would save much angst and nail biting. Has anyone used PayPal to actually pay for one?
  16. Wise words.Potential buyers beware.
  17. Never mind all this talk of the P2.....a heron has just touched down on our lawn. Its visit proved fruitless, there being neither fish nor frog in our small water feature/pond.Never seen that before, the nearest habitat being the pools near Bretby Hall. That has crowned a year of the resurgence in bird life in our garden....meanwhile,my wife sleeps on .
  18. Yes.Odd that your DoG is noisy, though.Mine is smoothly quiet.....
  19. Look at post 1570 if you want one.Wakey,Wakey!
  20. The power train is...hence my problem with pick ups.Fortunately no one else has reported a problem thus far.Let's hope it stays that way.
  21. I am delighted to report that Alex swiftly inserted insulation where NONE existed previously....either a design or assembly inadequacy....yes,the pickups as we knew the problem would be...and R 3207 now runs sweetly at the head of a rake of 8 Gresleys. Thank you for your help.It is appreciated.
  22. Or even his brother Nocando.....in fact I've arranged to take it to a guy who can tomorrow morning...Alex,who famously sorted my DoG ..he thinks that's what the problem is.Anyway one try & if that ain't working it'll make a return trip tomorrow. My eyes & fingers are not of the best which is why I leave it to better ones.Cheers.
  23. Thanks...but it shouldn't happen
