  1. Yes, like you I found it in the junior library when I was about 9, and it was a major contributor to my love of railways and my choice of pen-name. It took me many years to source a copy through the specialist book-sellers but it has been recently reprinted as a paperback. In 2017, a biography of the author was published, "Henry Charles Webster Man of Steam", by Dorrienne Roughley. If you are interested in the life of a railwayman in the steam age this is "a good read" and the source of some of the stories in the earlier work.
  2. I have a soft spot for the Kingsbridge branch as some of our favourite walks in Devon are along the trackbed around Loddiswell and Gara Bridge. I asked the question about the GW railcars as a single BR unit was used in the last days of the branch whilst in the 1900’s a steam railmotor worked round trip from Saltash. Maybe history could be manipulated so that in 1947 this service was operated by one of the GW diesel units? I agree that a prairie such as 4561 hauling a B set would be very typical, but to my mind the most aesthetically pleasing locomotive to have worked through Brent was in the 44 number series. 4474 Victor Wild!
  3. Is there a specific reason why the railcars did not work on the South Devon branches? Or just lack of consideration for modellers!
  4. What you choose not to do dictates to other people what they can and cannot do.
  5. Can that justification be extended to include a J50 from Hornby, a sweet runner? I wonder if the preserved J52 ran through LB?
  6. To my mind, one of the best-looking locos ever. I love the pre-paint shop picture!
  7. Apparently, walk-in booster jabs now available locally for those eligible (Sunday onwards for me).
  8. Engine and van - P1 by Dave King and 8 wheeled GN van. The GN fencing is a 3D print by Isinglass.
  9. I own a P1 built by Dave King using one of his own conversion kits, a fine looking model of an unusual prototype.
  10. I would have thought 60 would constitute a batch. Collins' definition of mass production relates to a "standardized pattern on a large scale by means of extensive mechanization and division of labour".
  11. I am sorry to hear of the closure and of the implied tension. I have very much enjoyed reading your Edgware thread and your contributions on this and other forums so a big thank-you, and I hope your circumstances improve and you will be able to return to layout building.
  12. which is seriously in need of a revamp to help it round curves
  13. 17'. I think I have one of these tucked away out of use because it looked too toy-like, but with a decent underframe I could live with a 2mm discrepancy.
  14. Surely the fermentation process gives off carbon dioxide?
  15. Robin, it's a long time since we've heard about the locals, especially the sisters. Are they still impressed by that nice Mr Pole?
  16. I used to understand it. Now it seems - or it's interpretation - to change every week.
  17. That makes me a bit sad that those of us of more limited experience are prevented from learning by the negativity of others' responses.
  18. I ordered a test kit from the NHS website about 5 pm on Friday and it came through the letterbox at 9.45 the following day. I find that impressive! Changing track (ouch), has anyone yet received their booster jab or an invitation thereto?
  19. Might I suggest contacting the Trix Twin Railway Collectors' Association, http://www.ttrca.co.uk/ ?
  20. Make them still bigger....
  21. I would like to see exhibition conditions of entry as follows: 1) Visitors able to produce "vaccine passport" or equivalent given green wrist bands, mask wearing to be discretionary. 2) Visitors unable to produce such documentation to be given orange wristbands and required to wear a mask (FFP2?), available at point of entry if required. Under these conditions, I would probably be prepared to visit an such as GETS but appreciate that some attendees might then choose to stay away. I wonder what the effect on visitor numbers would be?
  22. This is a good show which I have previously enjoyed but my personal choice is to avoid attending shows that don't require proof of Covid jabs and/or wearing of face masks, at least for a while.

Thanks very much to you and the team - well done!
  24. What experience do members have of downloading Total AdBlocker and running it on Microsoft Edge under Windows 10? Reviews seem rather mixed.
