  1. Those figures are perfect as they are and indeed make Misty seem huge. I can almost smell the pipe smoke wafting up from the deck. Well worth the effort and the subtle painting makes the crew part of the ship!
  2. Perhaps as a more affluent member of the LM community shirts were sent to the laundry in Encombe . Only bedlinen and towels needed drying at home .
  3. I also wondered if the GWR crossing cottages were numbered, as was the practice on the LB&SR. This is at Plumpton , Sussex where the gates were removed a few years ago despite grade Ii listing.
  4. That looks idyllic ! The signalman should get the scent of the roses from his signal box ! I wondered if the bushes on the veg plot the other side if the drive were blackcurrants .
  5. Rule 1 certainly applicable here - we’re just grateful you had a photo for our breakfast delight ! Thank you Tony Wright for raising our awareness !
  6. Mr Dean will be pulled over by the transport police for having no lights on his engine- we wouldn’t have worried about that ten years ago ! great view though
  7. Living in suburban Surrey I had an operation for appendicitis in 1949 - it turned out to be bovine TB. I never needed vaccination against TB though. I wonder when pasteurisation became mandatory.
  8. I have no excuse for not having one, having laid the trackwork for the bay platform at Limpley Stoke for the Camerton branch line. I have a few months to complete the platforms before it arrives !
  9. You’ve just reminded me of ‘66 when a good friend who liked to get his hands dirty helped me remove and dismantle the gearbox of my Morris 1000 to replaced the damaged lay shaft . Unfortunately it was in his father’s garage and we managed to replace the gearbox oil before replacing the drain plug- the resulting oil slick was not appreciated! Your crossing keeper / signalman cottage cameo is lovely especially the domestic appliances - are those blackcurrant bushes in the front garden ?
  10. These look wonderful. I’m glad I have delayed building the timber platforms for my version of Limpley Stoke, it looks as though the suspension on such a long carriage might need greater than normal platform clearances.
  11. I see Henry is still reading the crane instruction manual, and we get a glimpse inside the engine shed: as so many images have evapourated could you recycle one of the interior? Great pic !
  12. That’s a really convincing goods shed, open for business after breakfast tea .I still haven’t finished mine - awaiting a wheel for the crane.
  13. We had horse drawn United Dairies milk floats in Cheam in the early ‘50s and the horses were pampered by customers on their round. A few days after our float and horse were made redundant and replaced by a shiny new electric float our horse managed to escape his new home and did his round alone to enjoy his usual attention - until caught.
  14. Much better streamlining than the GWR did, but at least they didn’t hide the locomotive from view!
  15. Another day ; but the chap in the lorry is annoyed that the newspaper headlines are the same as they were yesterday, it looks as though it’s going to de a quiet day in the goods yard too..
  16. Picture no 3 for me - who doesn’t like a pannier like this. Thanks to the space between the trees it appears to be smoking too !
  17. RIP indeed LP Referring to the picture ‘left hand down a bit ‘.
  18. Too early for vegan milk !
  19. That seems very long for the job in hand- could we see it in action.?
  20. My eye was drawn, after admiring the Star, to the lovely cameo of the porter organising the cluster of milk churns.
  21. Ah, I’ll cancel my order for gold top then.
  22. A difficult picture to date , it shows urban milk deliveries in glass bottles in pre war Maida Vale ( Mirror.co.uk)
  23. Beautifully painted figures - especially the yellow oilskins ! Does the milkman have any gold top milk on the float ( will we have a horse drawn milk float one day ?)
  24. I much refer your version - I’ve never liked those concrete garden walls.
  25. That rose arch makes the keepers cottage -turning it into a domestic haven, I wonder if crossing keepers were allowed to pop home for lunch if there were a big gap in the timetable ; he would hear the bell from the kitchen table. More likely Mrs Keeper would take his lunch over to the box.
