  1. I had pangs of nostalgia seeing the level crossing warning sign at a respectable distance from the crossing. Looks just right !
  2. My modelling has stayed on the back burner for five months having taken delivery of an energetic spaniel puppy!
  3. You’ll be spending a lot of time walking and less on modelling I suspect- and keeping all food out of reach - he being a Labrador !
  4. I have waited three years to see if the crane jib does actually go up - so has the fireman ! I don’t think the instruction manual has helped!
  5. If the garage were in Eire there might have been a Guinness pump on the counter, I remember one in the mid 70’s somewhere near Cork.
  6. What a result ! Event the garage dog looks very pleased with it !
  7. Can I just mention Youngs Winter Warmer …… works every time.
  8. Sorry I drove this thread to drink by mentioning Young’s brewery. Anyone for Butcombe Original ?
  9. Youngs Beers are now produced by Marstons at its Eagle brewery in Bedford. At Wandsworth we cleaned out all the copper pipes and brass unions with Tartaric acid between brews. I wonder what they use these days.
  10. Yes, they are still in situ and preserved. Unfortunately Youngs Special Bitter isn’t and has been outsourced!
  11. Those flat drive belts remind me of a holiday job, as a student in 1963, at Youngs brewery in Wandsworth where the powere source was an 1835 steam beam engine. In contrast the floor was pretty spotless !
  12. The garage roof looks splendid. I hope it is removable so you can get those duckboards in the right places. Will you have a bench inside for motorcycle repairs ? We will know how successful the business is when we see what car the owner parks outside!
  13. Out of interest, is adhesive copper tape suitable for use as a bus, to which to solder the ‘dropper’ wires,
  14. ……isn’t what it used to be - like this !
  15. I’ve often wondered why the spokes have to be so thick - surely the metal used is strong enough to at least half the depth of the spokes!
  16. Thats a very appealing set of coaches! There have been a couple of well made white metal kits of Bulldog class locos on eBay lately, but because of the very thick running plate I was put off . I’ll stick with by Bachmann City and pretend it’s a straight framed Bulldog !
  17. That’s looking good - and it floats ! I think you have given a new meaning for ‘ straight out of the box ‘
  18. Well to my aging eyes it looks perfect - on full iPad zoom. I like the very neat painting of the bolection mouldings and droplights - I wish I could do that !
  19. A fastidious garage owner could have keep his floors clean by the judicious use of oil trays under leaky cars and enough staff to clean up after each job. I like the floor as it is if the roof is to be permanently attached - that’s’ a proper garage !
  20. True multitasking ! Those van axleboxes remind me of my Triang TT wagons of yesteryear, but I’m sure they are much more sophisticated than that. I’m glad you are giving employment to disabled footplate men.
  21. While working in Ipswich in 1969 an evening trip to the Butt and Oyster at Pinmill on the river Orwell was essential . Two Thames barges were moored there and competed in the annual Pinmill sailing club barge race. Google maps show one is still there. second image : Pinmill sailing club.
