But that was usually an excuse if you didn't have A/C! Brian
-
Mike, in old fashioned terms for the us in the US, highs around 104F are forecast as well as for the next few days as well. Hopefully the A/C will hold up as we hope ours will also and that the power company can cope. Brian.

Being half Cornish and as much as I would like to agree with this subject, like it or not Cornwall is most certainly a part of England, notwithstanding the presence of the Tamar. It does not provide a demarcation line as much as we would like to think it is but it does provide a suitable barrier to invasion from either side! It has been this way for countless eons and in spite of Kernow and its klansmen will remain so as Mr. Trelawney nearly found out the hard way. Brian

Plymouth - Laira, Friary & Cattlewater
brianusa replied to dogbox321's topic in The railways of Devon
Its amazing it lasted this long but it meant one was able to see modern locos on some of Plymouth's oldest lines. Scrap trains, NR trains and even excursions travelled as far as they were able. No more mileage there now! Brian. -
Why do we give into our pets so much? Our cat who is otherwise quite independent, demands in cat style that one of us go up to bed with her when she returns in the evening; no if ands or buts! Silly us; we will comply, missing part of a favourite TV programme or some of our supper. This something none of us would normally be doing but the cat gets away with it. Brian.

Remember all those comments a few months ago about the cold and the rain - this is your moment to remember! Brian.

For those who mercifully don't see/need 'pledge breaks', they are a means of raising money to support so called public television stations which in theory have no sponsorship and no commercials. We belong and pay our annual dues as there are some interesting programmes but no way will we 'pledge' any more during these breaks. Brian.

Deliberately Old-Fashioned 0 Scale - Chapter 1
brianusa replied to Nearholmer's topic in 7mm+ modelling
More appropriate for our area, Gordon. The PNW shakes a lot and mountains explode although hopefully not as violently as the one devastating the goods yard. Lock up your locos! Brian. -
WW2 jeeps in civilian use and other vehicles on British roads 1950's
brianusa replied to Royal42's topic in Road Vehicles
Dinky Toys had a civilian Jeep in its range, usually in bright colours. The spare was moved to the rear side and had a one piece windscreen. Brian. -
How true! I don't think theres a movie on TCM that I haven't seen now. The rehab is most unpalatable but I assure myself that its necessary as I have no intention of becoming a cripple for the rest of my life. Brian.

Tripped and broke my hip late one night recently. Paras came, complete with fire department, to whisk me off to hospital. Next thing I knew was to wake up next morning with the hip repaired and a short stay in hospital after which a long stay in rehab. Now under home care and more rehab but all should work come the end and its better food and attention at home anyway! Brian.

Quite a good TV series came up over here, 'My Grandfathers War' or something like that. A cut above the usual! Brian.

The early sections were from the late thirties, ladies clothes gave that away and men in "boaters". The protecting boards have been removed rom the statues, etc. But the Americans are still there in force, so late in the war, after VE Day anyway. Notice how slim everyone is; hardly any chubbies! The 'awful music' was contemporary dance band Palais style. The barrage balloons are problematical, if the war was over why are they still hoisting them up and why are the WRACs playing around with rangefinders with an AA gun handy? So is this pre or post 'doodlebug' era? Lots of questions and no real definitive answers. Brian.

During my upbringing, midday meal was dinner as it was cooked by Mother because Dad being a Copper worked 2-10, 10-6,6-2 shifts.. Invariably a full meat and potatoes meal, a pasty or a fry up. Tea was later when I came home from school and usually consisted of crumpets, cake or jelly or jam sandwiches. Supper, late, was a repeat of lunch in some cases. My Dad had a good appetite but looking back some meals were huge! On the subject of Wimpy bars, they were cool and very Yank! Or at least thats what we thought then as teenagers but not exactly McDonalds though! They lasted till the real thing came over which by that time was passé as the novelty had worn off so it was back to the pub! Brian.

Alex, theres one of these small TTs up there in Princetown, surely you're not going to model the whole branch ? Then it must be to tack on your lovely Yelverton module ! Exciting times! Brian.
-
Andy, you're correct, but the pastry's not quite right for a pasty; otherwise not bad! Brian.

We get an Australian 'delicacy' called Aussie pies. Not bad at all for a few dollars and an easy lunch. Basically a meat and potato pie with some onion and seasoning. Brian.

Tom Cruise filming mission impossible 7 on NYMR

Tom Cruise is getting a bit old for this kind of thing! Brian. -
Late lunch today - a couple of Samosas, quick and easy and quite tasty as well. As Mike mentions, the idiots are running the institution with numbers inexorably rising as well as our local phases, now Phase 3 which has imposed further restrictions on businesses, etc. Most diligently go along with the rules but this will not solve the problem until all the anti vaxers finally get the message. A pox on them, but that won't help! Brian.
