  1. Agreed on the steps - which are surplus as the model came with them fitted. As well as the choice of drain cocks, the other thing that confused me was that the pipework supplied to be fitted didn't allow the model to be completed as per Hornby's artwork. The artwork shows an up-standing vacuum pipe (I presume that's what it is, but happy to be corrected) on the tender rear, but the one supplied hangs downwards...
  2. These days the Emirates Stadium is eye-catching, but I'm not sure I'd call it scenic...
  3. Thanks for that - I'd just about come to the same conclusion but was surprised to find both versions present as I hadn't been so blessed in the model of Channel Packet. It almost looks as if someone has noticed that the first accessory pack isn't quite right and added a second. In fact the first accessory pack seems more similar to that included with Clan Line and East Asiatic Company... The spares will be put to good use elsewhere...
  4. Luckily, the postal vote I first applied for when I was working (I had an annoying habit of having to travel at short notice and missed a number of elections) meant that I could just drop my vote in a convenient post box whilst on a trip to the supermarket last week... Voting is one of our few opportunities to express our opinion on how we are governed (locally and nationally) - my view is that if I don't express an opinion, I deserve whatever we get - I hope that's not too political...
  5. It is well known that it is physically impossible to have preserved too many Bulleid Pacifics . But with my sensible head on, you're quite right!
  6. Couple of very quick (and not very good) phone snaps - very happy with the model. Slightly confused to find two bags of accessories - one with the usual range of parts (the steps look like those that usually go on the front buffers, and they're already fitted - I was expecting steps for below the buffer beam on the tender), and a second bag with a different design of cylinder drain cocks. Looks like I've got the ones similar to Clan Line and East Asiatic Company in the main bag and ones similar to Channel Packet in the second bag...
  7. Wot he said! Without a shadow of doubt the best design from the LMS.
  8. Indeed so! Add a "Lord Nelson" or two in to that, then take a short break until the Maunsell kitchens and dining carriages...
  9. Of the three currently expected models (35017 Belgian Marine, 35029 Ellerman Lines and 35022 Holland America Line), no not yet, but I'm expecting them all via Cornwall. Just have to be patient - they've got to get there from Kent first... (35028 Clan Line and 35023 Holland-Afrika Line (with TTS) were, of course earlier releases in BR Green - I presume your question wasn't referring to these)
  10. Just got a text and email from Hornby advising of a DPD delivery tomorrow - as Aberdeen Commonwealth is the only thing I've got ordered direct from Hornby it must be this...
  11. Hmm... "best" (for which I take "most successful") rather than "favourite"... Rules out the Bulleid Pacifics (much as I adore them) as they wouldn't have benefitted from the BR rebuilding if they were already "best". So for me it comes down to the Q1 0-6-0 freight loco, or the V (Schools) 4-4-0 passenger loco. However, I recall mention of the Q1 having problems stopping unfitted trains, so I'll vote for the "Schools" class.
  12. Same for me with with Aberdeen Commonwealth (pre-ordered direct from Hornby to use my "Captain Tom" voucher). Belgian Marine, Ellerman Lines and Holland America Line should all be arriving to me via Cornwall - payment was taken nearly two weeks ago for Holland America Line (together with a number of other items), but I get the impression that not everything is quite as imminent as they were advised it was when they decided which pre-ordered items to charge me for... It'll be interesting to see exactly what's in the Kernow package that's due in a couple of hours... Edit: The package contained three SR Bogie Luggage Vans (green, crimson and Pullman), and a Heljan 86, but no MNs...
  13. Another vote for the N Class Mogul - versatile and long-lived...
  14. Very true (and the 0-6-2Ts are very nice) , but I wouldn't judge them as "best" or "more successful". Depends on exactly what your criteria are, I suppose...
  15. Very difficult to look beyond a Terrier for this poll...
  16. A rake of Intercity liveried Mk3s - the 91s worked with Mk3s and ex-HST power car DVTs as the Mk4 rakes weren't ready...
  17. "The Black Watch" was one of Accurascale's "regular" releases (two-tone green with yellow nose panel), but has sold out... Rails/DPS have "Royal Highland Fusilier" D9019 in similar livery (but I haven't checked the detailed spec). Edit: Please ignore - this post no longer makes sense now @Legend has edited their post...
  18. Though possibly not what Gilbert had in mind, I have to agree that these were the most successful and influential design to come out of the LSWR. If we're meant to restrict ourselves to locomotives then I'd go for the Urie H15, which led to the S15 freight class and N15 "Arthurs"
  19. Unfortunately, to some people absolutely anything to do with family (no matter how trivial it may seem to others) is an exceptional reason, both internationally and domestically...
  20. Yesterday's poll was beyond my limited knowledge of the LNER, but at least today I know that the V2 was very successful and highly regarded. So my vote goes there!
  21. A4, merely on the grounds that one of its number was recorded going faster than anything else, which is what express passenger engines are supposed to do. But would the A4 have happened if the A3 hadn't happened before it? (Genuine question - I don't know enough about the detailed history of LNER locomotive development other than what I read on this thread...)
  22. I was going to follow the herd and vote for the 9F, but then saw @LNER4479 mention the Standard Class 4 tanks - no I idea how I could have forgotten them! So another vote for Class 4 tanks!
  23. Indeed - I chickened out of that auction once it passed £350
  24. Black 5 for this one - foregone conclusion...
  25. Agreed, that makes it very easy - another vote for the Princess Coronation (aka Duchess) class... Am I allowed to specify unstreamlined form?
