  1. Wow! The angle of the light is highlighting all sorts of defects in the air-smoothed casing that would just be impossible to model on a 4mm plastic loco body...
  2. I agree it might look slightly awkward, but less awkward than typing "Battle of Britain Class locomotives" every time! It's referring to one particular battle, so I'd think "Battle" would have to be singular. "Courts Martial" surely refers to more than one court?
  3. Very difficult to narrow things down to a single vote, as I have different favourites for Air-Smoothed and Rebuilt versions... Rebuilt - Exeter (a city I have an extremely tenuous connection with via an educational establishment in central Oxford). Air-Smoothed - Coombe Martin (the venue for a family holiday when I was 7, and unfortunately too young to really able to appreciate the beauty of the area - all I and my younger brothers were interested in was the sandy beach at Woolacombe (which nearly got my "Rebuilt" vote)) If forced to choose between the two I'll vote for Exeter. Fully concur with @Mallard60022 regarding the complications of tenders, cabs and the like on Bulleid Pacifics...
  4. Charming though the Isle of Wight and its history of steam locos undoubtedly are (yes, I've got RTR models of Terriers and O2s...), I'm afraid that none of them fascinate me as much as the use of redundant Underground stock on the Island. Which is a long-winded way of abstaining from this particular poll...
  5. No specific affiliation to any of the class, but I'll vote for 930 "Radley" due to its proximity to my current abode...
  6. Unfortunately I've no specific reason to prefer any one of the class over the others, so I'll go for No 453 King Arthur...
  7. I'll go for 6146 prior to May 1936 - Jenny Lind. Shares a name with a favourite hostelry (not the first time I've used this as a way of selecting a vote). Though I must say I "doff my cap" to those who have personal reasons for selecting regimental names.
  8. Keep 'em coming please - some of us enjoy just lurking and marvelling at the awesomeness of your work! The way you're talking us through the build is also extremely interesting...
  9. A vote for 45519 Lady Godiva here...
  10. Shovell - just seeing the name reminds me of a lovely little place I used to visit, just down from Charing Cross...
  11. Act of conquest, rather than Act of Union (with apologies to those west of Offa's Dyke...)
  12. OK - Empire name - 45606 Falkland Islands. I'll save being Vindictive and Inflexible about Halls for tomorrow...
  13. Wow, a wide variety of names from different sources there! Very difficult to consider them in the manner/mindset they would have been thought of when named in the 1930s - some of them seem slightly inappropriate in the 21st century... I'll vote for 5700/45700 as named "Britannia" prior to 1951. And to pre-empt things, if Gilbert chooses to do a "least favourite Jubilee name" poll, then half a vote each for "Vindictive" and "Inflexible". Which leads me pretty nicely on to concurring wholeheartedly with Gilbert's comments regarding "Halls"...
  14. Wow - that's it? Wonder how much a "Design Consultant" trousered for that...
  15. Not being an aficionado of Sir Walter Scott, these names (and some of the previous ones discussed) don't mean anything to me, but "Madge Wildfire" sounds silly enough to deserve a vote...
  16. The info on Page 1 of this thread says "BR" and "Era 5", which Hornby define as "Late British Railways1956-1968", so I assume BR(SR) Green.
  17. Hornby now seem to be admitting this - S1696 is described on the Hornby website as Era 9, whereas the original information released described it as era 5.
  18. I concur totally - there's not much more some of us can stop doing! I'm single and retired, and have pretty much given up on exercise. I leave my flat only to go to the local supermarket to buy food and other essentials. The only things I could realistically do to tighten things up are: Do food shopping on-line, but I've taken the conscious decision not to use up a delivery slot that could be better used by someone who is shielding, or otherwise unable to get to the shops. Stop ordering non-essentials online, in an attempt to reduce the movements of the delivery drivers. But the non-essential items are (in my view) necessary for my sanity-sustaining modelling hobby...
  19. Yes, tribal seems the way to go here In the (understandable) absence of a D49 named after the county I'm originally from (the 4-letter one down in the bottom-right of the map, even though the particular bit of it I hail from was subsumed into the teeming metropolis in 1965, 4 months before I appeared...), I'll have to vote for my adopted home of 62702 "Oxfordshire". My adopted home was actually within 62730 "Berkshire" during the life of the locos and only became part of Oxfordshire in 1974, but I didn't move into the area until 1990, so "Oxfordshire" it is... Quite why the LNER felt the need to name locos after such distant counties I'm not sure...
  20. I've no information on what tenders Hornby will supply, but wouldn't it be inappropriate to use the same tenders for 35011, 35016 and 35017 as for 35029? I've based that comment on the info at the top of the page in this link (the title in the link is a tad misleading...). https://www.southern-locomotives.co.uk/Class_Details/Bulleid_Light_Pacific_Tenders.html I'm aware that this topic is a bit of a minefield, and await the input of those with more detailed knowledge. No doubt Hornby will get a "verbal kicking" in these pages if they get it wrong, so I presume they have taken appropriate advice.
  21. It's a feature I hadn't noticed until you started modelling it. At first, I also thought it looked strange in model form, so I went back to your images of the real thing (as you now suggest) and was duly impressed both with the detailed nature of your observation and the reproduction of it in model form. This really is a wonderful piece of modelling!
  22. Much prefer the military names to the racehorses (particularly disliking Crapello). I'll vote for "The Black Watch".
