  1. I forgot you were at Warwickshire lad at one point. Wall must have been one of the few ‘interesting’ places my brother and I weren’t dragged to by our parents when we lived in Nuneaton. Duncan
  2. However, in my 6-7mile each way cycle to work I long for the days when I have a SE wind in the morning and a NW in the afternoon to waft me along. Cycling into the teeth of a SW English channel gale takes the joy out of the morning- assuming the act of cycling hasn’t already achieved that. Duncan
  3. It also seems that the circular mounting plate (fir want of a better description) is larger and slightly thicker on the single pipe/fkag flame arrangement. D
  4. Thanks! Very nice image. 2 different arrangements of gas lighting pipes but which is which? I’m assuming incandescent is 2 pipes… D
  5. I was looking at some of John Lewis’ additional info on GW 40ft composites on @kada33’s excellent website and noticed he had very helpfully noted the different dates of fitting first flat flame and then incandescent gas lights on the coaches. This set me wondering what if any were the physical differences that could be observed from outside the coach eg at the end or on the roof? Does anyone have photo references they can share showing the actual observable (and modelable (in 2 and 4mm scale) differences? Regards and thanks for any info, Duncan
  6. Does anyone have any information on the detailed histories of the F1 slips to comment tge information on Richard Spratt’s excellent website? I’m after the individual coach info covering dates Dean 6’4” bogies were fitted, date vac brake fitted (if not at build) dates oil axleboxes were fitted, date gas flat flame fitted, date incandescent gas fitted, dates slip gear removed and dates condemned. Perhaps if John Lewis is on here he might know…. Regards, Duncan
  7. Here you go…. See https://www.broadgauge.org.uk/modelling/bgs_parts_prices_4mm.html For details. If anyone gets a standard gauge kit do get me know what prototype info comes with it. DrDuncan
  8. The BG society does a Mink kit, both SG and BG, with x frames on sides and ends - this might be a candidate. However, I haven’t found any information about build dates, numbers, running nos etc yet. Duncan
  9. While I can’t comment on the whole range transferred to ABS, I know that the GWR W2 medium cattle wagon appeared in ABS form as did the GW AA16 outside framed brake van - because I bought them from Arian while he was still trading. As can been seen in the ABS thread work to get the 4mm range back into production is ongoing and that does include many exD & S white metal wagon kits but not the etched brass NPCS or coaches which did not as I understand it go to ABS). DrDuncan
  10. A very interesting project and I’m interested to see how the forced perspective works. Duncan
  11. The GWSG members day and open day is this Saturday! It’s free to non members too… I’ll be doing CAD and 3D printing there so do come by and say hello
  12. @Tim Dubya I’ve had an update from my mate. The database of parts for each kit is complete, it’s now a case of matching the large amount of stock castings to the relevant parts/kits in the database. As many kits share common components this is likely to be time consuming so at the moment it’s still uncertain what kits can be produced from stock and which will require new castings. I’m told It is hoped that there will be a stand at the South Hants MRC (Portsmouth) show in November, but this is an aspiration and is not confirmed. Hope this helps. Duncan
  13. I’ve always thought of various air forces as having a rather monkish outlook on history - they only have habits.
  14. While seeking to understand cultural history methodologies (and what a good cultural history looked like) I was lucky enough to be encouraged to study an illuminating history of the corset. D
  15. I certainly find that’s correct regarding the Air Force view of history…. D
  16. Moral turpitude is for dealing with absolutely filthy brushes, but it’s overkill for just slightly soiled or mildly dirty ones . Duncan
  17. The GWSG members day and open day is this Saturday! Do come along and say hello if you have the time. Duncan
  18. My apologies. I didn’t read your post correctly. I always thought the odd photo with the diagonals the wrong way was a repair mistake. D
  19. I’m sure there is a copy of the drawing in the Midland (yes really) Study Centre’s online catalogue. @Compound2632might be able to post a link to it given his knowledge of their holdings… Duncan
  20. The Great Western Study Group members day (and AGM) will be on 15 July at Didcot Civic Hall, 1000-1400 (the members only AGM starting c1400). The day is open to non members. John Shaw’s O gauge layout ‘Shawton’ will be attending; I’m looking forward to seeing it as I haven’t yet had the chance. Osborn models will be bringing a TT:120 diorama of Radley station and their ranges of kits. MRD developments will be attending with their range of useful components and bits to enhance things like Coopercraft kits. There will be a GWSG sales stand for all our publications including back issues of ‘Pannier’. There will be a members sales stand which in the past has had done really good gloat box finds looking for new homes. Hope to see you there whether a member or not. Duncan
  21. I hope you’ll be at the GWSG members day (which is open to all BTW) at Didcot civic hall on Saturday 15 July, 1000-1400 (at which point the AGM starts and non members are asked politely to join or leave!!!!) Duncan
  22. I will be demonstrating 3D printing at the Great Western Study Group open and members day at Didcot civic hall, Saturday 15 July, 1030 to about 1430. Do come along and say hello! In other news the 3521st chassis was sprayed red oxide yesterday while fending off all my children, all of whom felt their life chances were devastated by my refusal to let them… Duncan
  23. So I’ve been working on the Mk2 3521st Briad Gauge chassis. Having cleaned up the print, today I added the spring hangers from 0.5mm brass wire. I also added the bus bars (but got ahead of myself - forgetting the master plan I’d decided on… Tomorrow (or a yet to be determined day) the plan is to clean the print of dust, then undercoat it in red oxide (Halfords best rattle can paint). Then I’ll airbrush it Indian red and do all the wheels at the same time. While all this painting is drying I can strip the mk1 chassis of horn blocks etc and get ready to fit them once the paint is dry. Then it will be reassemble the wheels, pick ups and motor; hey presto an almost finished chassis! Duncan
  24. Dear Jason, I recall discussions (not on RMweb) that the GWR Armstrong class mould was made from the butchered patterns of the Achilles single - and that the splashers were incorrect in size as a result. Can you confirm if the splashers on the Armstrong are correct? Regards, Duncan
