  1. Hi all, I always wanted one of these, But never got round to buying one. Think I might just get one or two. Does any one know if you can still get finer wheels for this little engine.
  2. Hi, I used the safety valve bonnets from the Triang Pannier tank on these 2 locos. They were very cheap. I think I got them from Peters Spares via Ebay. I filed them to the size I wanted.

  4. Hi, I would like to put my 2 penneth in here and would like to recommend the Hornby J94 or any one of their Terriers. If you do not want to spend a fortune both can be bought at reasonable prices second hand. Or even cheaper the Dapol versions. I have several from each manufactures and they all run very nicely.
  5. A similar thing happened to me end of last year. Wanted something to do and painted this R1. Plus started to cobble together a Triang M7 chassis with a Wrenn N2 body. Still not get any further with that one. Yet.
  6. I still have a half built Superquick main station building in a box from the 1990's Maybe I will finish it one day.
  7. Might I suggest that you go to your local model shop. If they are helpful that is and ask them can you compare a new model to yours. I would also take a much closer picture of the item so we can see better what it is. Just looks like a small air vent to me in your picture. It might also be worth taking a close up look at the new Hornby 2mt. I know it is not the same model. But it is the same engine and therefore have the same fittings. The pictures would be to a larger scale making it easier to identify where it may have come from and it might just show you where such an object might be fitted.
  8. Hi, I think this was the only plastic kit by Airfix for model railways I did not build I did not like the look of it. Besides I had discovered Superquick kits and was enamoured by them for my building needs at the time.
  9. Hi Fred, Thanks for the link. Very interesting. I did not know they made so many versions I do not have a problem getting the catalogue number. It is on the end of its plastic case.
  10. Hi. Mine are all still their plastic cases with the clear plastic lid. Strangely enough of the 3 it was only the BigBoy that had a sponge liner. The other 2 had plastic trays for the loco to sit in. The sponge had degraded quite badly as well and caused some damage to the bodywork and valve gear on one side as well. I managed to sort out that damage. But it made me wonder for some time if the degrading sponge had helped in the severity of the mazak rot. All three of mine came originally from Beatties.
  11. Is that the chassis and valve gear from the 2-6-4 tank you have used.
  12. Hi all, In my collection I own 3 1980's Riverossi articulated locos. Cab forward, Mallet and a BigBoy. The BigBoy chassis has suffered severe mazak rot while the other 2 are just fine. I am looking for a replacement chassis for the BigBoy. Hornby who now own Riverossi have been no help. The current BigBoy chassis does not fit and they do no carry any spares for such an old engine. Looking at the usual suspects for buying a new chassis has had no better luck. I want to fix this engine up as it has great sentimental value to me as these 3 loco's were part of my fathers collection. Any ideas would be gratefully received.
  13. Hi. I did think think you would be better off using the Triang Hall chassis for that conversion. No need to worry about the cylinders with that one. It is basically the same chassis. But on looking closer the mounting point for the piston rods is on the front wheel and not the middle wheel. Makes it a bit more difficult.
  14. Hi, My friend and I run full timetables on his 32mm narrow gauge layout, Using correct sequences for train movements. Fortunately engines we are running are all radio controlled. Makes having more than one loco on a section of track easier. We tend to run 5-6 locos per session. With a mix of mainly freight and some local/holiday passenger traffic. Each session lasts about 2-3 hours All wagons and coaches have to be picked up from their storage yards and marshalled in to their respective trains and at the end of the session returned to their correct storage points. All locos must be stabled back at the engine shed for refuelling and cleaning after the days run. It helps that the layout we run is based on a mythical Welsh island not unlike Anglesey. So we have no interloping external traffic.

  17. Hi Michael, Sorry missed the 1ft bit. You are right it will not. It was designed for 2ft width. But this one should fit 1ft. It is a bit more like a small town trackplan. But it can be simplified a bit for a small country terminus. The mainline in is the middle line from the left leading to the 3 way point. It is designed in Anyrail 6.

  19. Hi all, Thank you all for the advice. The reason I have asked is that quite a few of my Triang rebuilds have had their wheels taken off and new bushes fitted. Mainly the 3mt 2-6-2 tanks, M7s and Princesses shown below.. They ran fine on straight and curved track but ride quite a bit rough and derail over the points and I needed a guide to what was the best back to back size. They are all fitted with later wheel sets and not the huge original deep flanges Triang wheels. Hopefully I will get them running smoother over the points. I will try the Brush Type 2/ Class 31 wheel spacings first and see what happens.

What I need to know is what is the best back to back wheel measurement for these engines to run on Peco code 100 track and points.

Hi Hibelroad, If what what I think DCB is talking about it would be similar to using superglue and backing powder but stronger to build up and repair broken locos and wagons etc. You can use the superglue/baking powder method to repair and fill models as it sets solid and can be carved to the shape you want. For instance I used this method to repair the chipped top corners of several Hornby steel coal wagons. Sorry I cannot find the pictures of this repair. I built up the corners of the wagons with superglue and baking powder and let it cure for a couple of hours. I was then able to file them back to the correct shape. I think the pictures may be still be on this site somewhere. If the concrete and superglue is stronger that could come in very hand for bigger projects.
  24. Hi TyBryn, If you are not going to run it as DCC and intend to keep running DC you can easily rewire it and cut out the DCC wiring all to gether.
  25. Hi all, Like Trainnoob I use acid free wrapping tissue paper. Sounds expensive, But it is not really as I bought the paper to wrap stored locos. One pack had more than enough for the original purchase and also make tarpaulins. One sheet could do 30+ wagons.
