  1. Photos from this morning 10am ish No storm just an onshore stiff sea breeze very choppy seas taken when the waves had abated a bit as the tide went out you can just see the pools on the road side contrast this with this taken monday
  2. 20.00 first time seen any other than orange army on the webcam looking good maybe time for trapped vehicles to escape
  3. yesterday at Dawlish Warren I could drive right onto the beach with my buggy overnight the sand level had dropped leaving a step that I could not drive over!! this morning the edge was 4 inches by the wall & about 9 inches at the outer end
  4. 17.23 Surface is looking good Fence rails done, mesh added
  5. our school trains used to stop there some mornings for visitors for Brittania Colledge to alight, If I remember correctly it was only about 20 ft long ( but the memory IS getting dim that was 1956!)
  6. been out most of the day was in Dawlish at 10 am today, waves were hitting the wall & going up 20ft in the air washed over the line into Marine Parade Amey, Bam Nuttal, & one other were down there pronto checking the resin bonding Was unsafe for a while to go either way along the sea wall walks what people forget is that once your knocked off your feet there is nothing to grab hold of the stonework is all polished by the waves and there are no railings or steelwork to grab hold of so swoosh over the edge you go
  7. In starcross there's The Atmospheric? the Galleon? Chimneys? not a lot of other choice unless your camping? Know it well
  8. Actually a good day out would be to catch a local stopper that goes via Newton Abbot to Paignton Change to the heritage train for Kingswear and you could be there when Sir Nigel arrives great photo oportunities there not only does the track curve on entering the station guiving a panoramic of most of the train there are foot paths I think nearly all the way to Brittania Halt by the Higher ferry
  9. 21.46 Still working at 9.45 another load of stuff arriving Looking out my back door, beautiful full moon in a clear sky
  10. I saved the same pic I would think that they were putting down a decent base to act as a foundation & for the builders/insurers to later work out a solution to make the structure safe on it
  11. I think the problem is that the only work access to the outside seawall between the washout (that was) & the compound at Dawlish Warren is over that bridge & as the operatives often have to carry gear over that bridge H&S would have kittens if the public also used it if your about for the rest of the week say HI, if you see me, if I am not in the beach buggy chair I will be wearing a bright green fleecy if its windy or it will be over the back of my smaller chair if its hot we will be making the most of the good weather after all the storms & will be about both at the Warren & in Dawlish
  12. Well I cant get down to look closely But we do have spring tides this week & the most likely place for them would probably be parrallel to the shore along towards the warren, if someone would like to look
  13. 18.17 is this stone or concrete? I would guess gravel, with the debris on top??
  14. we had a picnic lunch at the Warren today the best place was not on the beach although we did get on the beach with the wheelchair & tandem trailer seat as it was low tide the best place was on the grass between the Boathouse & the seawall as the wind was from the east & south
  15. all that I saw were completly round no slot in them Actually about 20 years ago I transported one specimen from the science museum annex to the Brunels Tower museum in Starcross but that closed shortly after, no idea where the pipe went
  16. Think I saw that too I thought that it was safety fencing that had been in use as they were repairing the parapet, being removed which continued on after the line had opened, & the only access was along the outside of the seawall
  17. Top rail to fence fixed Looks like just another 5 or 6 loads to fill up to the level of the sandbags there
  18. Oh, and another bit of uncovered sewage pipe cast iron probably,, but still thrown about by the waves
  19. 15.31 Roller, digger & lorry delivering a further load Dawlish warren heaving with sun seekers this afternoon
  20. 13.18 Safety rail being installed along "L" sections wall before being opened to non workers ( residents only first)
  21. Photos taken Mon 14th April Dawlish Town beach ramp to left under bridge by Station I cant remember the sand being so low I have never seen these pipes etc being uncovered, in the 40 years I have lived in the area groyne looks like rail uprights used old sewer pipe that ran parallel to shoreline another one free of its concrete jacket normally the beach is halfway up this top part of the slope old sewer running down lower slipway bit of old masonry, from station? in a long ago previous storm? There appears to have been a very visible along shore creep of beach material from south to north taking away from this side of the breakwater situated by the middle of the viaduct entrance to the beach whereas the other side of that break water the beach is near enough to the top of the walk last summer by the kiosk there was a 2-3 ft drop off at the bottom of that slipway EDIT;- So I imagine the sand etc will have pilled up at the Red Rock breakwater near Dawlish Warren but cant get any where near there yet and the beach was so busy, that it was difficult to get any pictures not obscured by bodies
  22. 11.27 has darkness fallen already at Dawlish??? trees fallen in front of webcam? someone hung their string vest on it??
  23. Havent seen a single portaloo except at Dawlish Warren compound & Dawlish Station compound But it might be out of camera shot to the left or out of sight where there is a space between the 2 terraces of houses otherwise its a lo.................ng walk!
  24. From what I observed working in plant hire in the 60s (& I expect practices & technology has progressed) in the context of road building I dont think you can lay pipes cables etc, on a flat surface then lay & compact your top surfaces after, as they would move & get deformed whereas if you put down the consequetive layes, compacting each one to get a solid foundation you can then dig your trench & the compacted trench sides protect the utilies from movement & pipe gravel/sand etc & infill can be more carefully compacted as needed for the particular service being installed (now laying pipe with a mole is another thing altogether)
