  1. Just got back from the Warren, spoke to the security guy, sea wall path will be closed for a while, including the bridge as this is their only access to the warren side of the containers was looking at the warren groynes, & bumped into Keith George of this forum, who is staying at the warren camping coaches
  2. Possibly still blocked at that foot bridge that was closed to allow staff to cross over bridge & then access on foot the seawall path past Red Rock cafe and the other end of the bridge, the footpath was closed off to pedestrians (coastal path route) and remained inside the Warren compound, so unless they have shrunk that compound it will still be closed see if I can get down there & look
  3. Orange Army just a thought to keep in mind tecknically its not one army but several regiments each contractor has its own army, usually with its own logo on the back every one on site has to wear hi vis, even the press had to be in orange as did the Secretary for State when he walked down the site I only ever saw the whole time 2 persons not using Hi vis, & that was in the compound at Dawlish Station No idea why.
  4. Looking at Roundhouse's 2nd pic of the barrow crossing Just reminded me I dont know what was there before But when I returned from my short trip up the line Friday I had to use that crossing to get back to the Up platform where the ramp exit is Very safe procedure, only available though when station manned Both gates at top of ramp are padlocked when I wanted to cross there was also a woman with buggy on the up platform waiting to cross. Procedure Attendant was on the up platform he made her wait top side of her gate while he unlocked both gates, escorted me over then escorted her over, then relocked both gates I initially wondered why he did not escort her over while he came over the first time Then I realised that if he did that, he would have to turn his back on her, leaving her at the bottom of the ramp with the buggy, while he unlocked my gate, leaving the possibility of her suddenly returning to the other side if she had forgotten something, or if she had a toddler beside her, him/her straying back onto the track this way seems fail safe well though out, I thought, I imagine, some might find it a bit pedantic, Better that than dead or injured Edit PS what time were those station pics taken, to get it so deserted, Late afternoon?
  5. thanks but looking at the webcam pic it looks like side hatches closed, off rather than blanked off windows did it have another life inbetween?
  6. Well Nah, too much dust, I have done several modifications to my fleet of 2nd hand bargain motive power ( all 2-2-0 ) but the next pie in the sky was a forklift attatchment to the front of the red Shoprider!! But thanks for the compliments
  7. What is tail end charlie in that last Pic? is it a signals dept vehicle? cant quite make out its No.
  8. Just a few pics of the Orange army, who were there in force mostly in Monday morning overalls But a few had obviously come straight from the landslip site mud up to above their knees With their own compound retreat Complete with pasty van supplied by a well known shop in Dawlish interesting poster there was such a crowd down at the front Station entrance I could not get the wheelchair through so I saw that the 2 local fire engines were about to slowly move out so I tucked in behind & they cleared a way through the crowd Brilliant
  9. I think the time lapse is Network Rail's camera see http://www.networkrail.co.uk/timetables-and-travel/storm-damage/dawlish/ Which has now been updated, with this mornings events & future works to come
  10. Been to Dawlish this morning Was not allowed on the platform without a ticket to travel so bought a return to Dawlish Warren! Dwlish Town beach partially open New Galvanised supports under the platform overhang can go north along seawall as far as the old Lifeboat house inspection of wave size?? Beach Party?? Strong bracing where the platform overhangs more, (was there before these storms by the look of it) Bunting at Dawlish Bunting at the Warren
  11. There was a link on here in the last few days to a tv report( claire someone? ) Where she interviewed the housholder who's garage was washed out cant seem to find it now EDIT belay that, daughters found it
  12. there was alink a few pages back couldn't make much sense of it myself,, basically trains (freight?) will run from just after midnight, but first passenger somewhere around 5am ish, according to the poster, sorry cant remember who it was
  13. I am told by several that Dawlish Town beach will be partly open tomorrow couldn't get there, but the guy running the ice cream/ hamburger bar on the right on the beach walk seen here 'The Pirates Chest' shouted accross that he was hoping to be open tomorrow
  14. Just back from Dawlish Station car park muchly cleared by 2pm now 3/4 staff parking 1/4 storage/plant
  15. No, No, Thats the rescue dingy for when the outboard inboard packs up
  16. Now that would be REALLY useful as its a RR vehicle, it could take you right to your front door!!
  17. Some fantastic footage on there, but dont leave it too long before you view it, as it probably will only be on IPlayer for a very few days
  18. Read a suggestion somewhere yesterday that maybe the shipping containers would be removed today, ends cut off? tipped up, emptied, loaded mt on to rail wagons & off Doubt if the were now strong enough to be lifted as they are filled? time will tell
  19. So, this vehicle, is it a one off built specially for landslip/falling rocks protection? only it reminds me of the mine vehicles down at Morwhellham basically a mesh cage to protect from falling rocks & in the mine context to protect hands etc from accidentally catching on close rocky walls & pit props as well Looks like a Transit conversion
  20. A pleasure to meet you Gary Wish you joy if you have to negotiate the Kinskerswell road works on any trips to Paignton Although coming Back from Torquay this eve, was surprised how cleanly it flowed normally go the coast road, but Shaldon was snarled up earlier on the way down
  21. My daughter, looking over my shoulder has commented that if we have a spell of dry weather & there is more dust in the air (Sahara?) would not the Orange Army become The Terracota Army?????
  22. Now that is something that I would find really usefull I am only up to page 53 as yet !!
  23. Dawlish Station open for booking tickets, He knew nothing of a Steam train running. but its busy down there a lot of trackside tidying up bedfore the lines reopen to service trains after which most other works will have to be accessed off track White lorry man was collecting stuff trackside by Kennaway tunnel in Marine Parade RRV was loading drums of resin & hardener just delivered buy road for the track relaid further down the line, smugglers, I think At £2000 a drum, hope they dont go missing!! one team was fitting up the new Railing on the seawall walk along the front of Marine Parade A plant hire lorry from Barnstaple arrived at Dawlish Station to remove a Bam Nuttall container on the corner of the Taxi rank Theres lots more to do at Sealawn Terrace, as one lane of the A379 is still closed with traffic lights in operation I hope they clear that before Friday's influx
  24. Yes, But Although they have the facts, perhaps due to pressure of work, there has at times been a delay of several days before their website has been updated where as on RMweb, things have been seen, captured & shared almost as soon as they are seen Which has another benefit when some webcams crash & all the footage is lost, except for where someone has done a screen capture, & shared it!! by the way just met a man driving a white lorry with a sky hook on it, in Marine Parade Dawlish!!
  25. Dont know what the stuation is with the slips at Teigbnmouth, but there are still 4 dumpy bags of what could be scaffolding clips + two platforms in the road 'pit' at Riviera / Sea lawn Terrace, that could be moved by an RRV before the tracks open properly. probably lots & lots of activitty before Friday. And there has been lots of minor activity all down the closed sections Track fettling? Just south of Exeter St Thomas pic taken Friday 7th March from B&Q car park Alphington And Balfour Beatty group of vans & comfort kiosk parked up on 10th March prior to remedial work on the seawall butresses in the Exe Estuary at Starcross could not get any pics of the work as they were working out of site around the curve from the pedestrian crossing point Hoping to get to Dawlish Station for some pics before the crowds descend on Friday
