  2. Personally I don't find the Robinson Jersey Lilies his most attractive design although he certainly had some lovely looking locos. Outside the Ivatt GNR Atlantics and the Marsh LBSCR H1/2 classes already available or announced my favourite Pre Grouping Atlantic class would be one of these beasts. https://rlkitterman.deviantart.com/art/NBR-Reid-Atlantic-H-903-Cock-o-the-North-565249841 Off course they didn't survive until Nationalisation so unlikely that Bachmann or Hornby would be interested sadly.
  3. I've just re read Adrian Vaughan's book "Signalmans Morning". He recalls that 4014 "Knight of the Bath" was known by railwaymen as "Friday Night" LOL.
  4. Personally I'd rather see a Bulldog or a Barnum rather than another (later period) pannier tank.
  5. Plenty of information here bertiedog, http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/locos/atlantic/latest.html
  6. Having drawn a blank with some of the UK shops in my efforts to track down a "Dodo" or "Huntley and Palmers" through the help of a fellow RMWEB modeller here in New Zealand I've just managed to order a "Dodo" from a shop closer to home here in the North Island of NZ What a great thing these forums can be sometimes when you are after something tricky.
  7. Looks like Bachmann have done a nice job on this loco. I Wish they'd do a Prince of Wales or a George V. Still I do have a Etched Brass Prince Kit to make up so that usually means the RTR manufacturers will announce a model LOL.
  8. Can anyone tell me please if the first three Peckets, Dodo, Huntly and Palmers and MSC, were all completely sold out? I originally had an order in last year with MR Direct but had to cancel it when I got made redundant before Xmas. Now that I have been employed again I'd like to try and obtain one. (Not keen on the new version). Unfortunately I just can't pop down to the local Model shop as I happen to live in New Zealand. Anyone know of any retailers who might have one of Huntley and Palmers or Dodo that can do mail order? Even second hand would be fine as long as they run OK. Cheers.
  9. I have recently purchased a LNWR passenger Brake van kit from London Road Models. However its a while since I assembled an etched brass kit. So I decided I'd better get some practice with something slightly simpler. A while ago I'd purchased on Ebay an old Falcon Brass Damo B motorcar wagon kit so I thought I'd put this together first to practice using my soldering iron. Opening the bag the first thing I discovered is there was a) no instructions, and b) no roof. Luckily I have Russells GW Wagon book which has a couple of photos of these wagons and also a side view diagram so I can get around the instructions. There were also some useful pictures of the preserved example on this forum including the ends of the wagon which are very useful. I'm also reasonably confident I can do something about the roof when I get to that. Making a start last night I thought I'd quickly put the sides together which soldered up fine but then I realised I should probably left them flat so I could solder the etched strapping and other detail overlays while they were flat! Never mind I can still clamp the body while I add these detail parts. Here is a couple of pics of the start of the build.
  10. LBSCR K class 2-6-0 lovely locos tragically withdrawn as a class in 1962. Long lived , not too big and can be done in four liveries.
  11. thank you I'll give that a go.
  12. Recieved my E4 in Southern green here in NZ last week from Model Railways Direct. Very pleased lovely little model , the finish and detail nice and appears to run very nicely from the box. However can anyone tell me PLEASE HOW TO REMOVE THE CAB. The front of the cab releases ok with a little work but I cannot for the life of me get the the rear tabs to release from the chassis and very annoyingly managed to scratch the paintwork on the bunker with the screwdriver I was using. It just wont seem to release easily. There is no help for this with the bachman paperwork. Any suggestions please.
  13. I am very pleased to see Bachmann doing another 'North Western' loco, as my modelling period is the earlyto mid 1930s I will be investing in an LMS version when they are released to go with my Brassmasters Prince of Wales kit and London Road Precurser tank. While Bachmann made a very nice model of the G2 but it seems generally to have escaped the RTR manufacturers that its somewhat difficult to model large parts of the LMS in this period or earlier without some distinct LNWR flavour. They were an exceptionally large company. Perhaps we'll see a George the fifth next not holding my breath). I'd be happy with some earlier Midland or LMS coaches though the Portholes are too late for me.
  14. Totally agree Gerry, Seems amazing to me Hornby and Bachmann have produced between them GWR 4-4-0's of the City, County and now Dukedog classes. Although "City of Truro was obviously a famous loco and probably demanded some kind of RTR model for the me the Bulldog is the most deserving class. Longest lived, not a rebuild like the Dukedog, geographically spread, and blessed with a wonderful selection of names, eg "Pershore Plum" and "Stanley Baldwin". I particularly like the final Bird version with the deeper frames "Jackdaw", Skylark", "Seagull" etc. Unfortunately the Dukedog chassis won't suit this version. Gordon
