  1. Only a few days to go now. The club layout this time is Sutton-in Ashfield town, the actual station was about half a mile from our club room, now it is part of the Asda site. Just a reminder that entry, refreshments and club sale will be cash only. Brian
  2. Hello Peter, I personally don’t have poster but I will see what I can do. Thanks for your interest. Brian
  3. Hello Richard, thanks for getting in touch. We are cash only for entry and the Summit Centre who do the refreshments are also cash only. You might like to look at the discussion taking place under the topic of how do you pay at exhibitions, I have made some contributions there. We have no objections to you filming as long as layout owners are OK with it. If you are able to attend that will be great, I will most likely be on the club sales stand so please say hello, if I remember I might have my RMWeb badge on. Brian
  4. Sadly it is a very small club with an ageing membership. Brian
  5. I am involved with our exhibition coming up this weekend, we are cash only for entry and club sales. As far as I am aware the Summit Centre, who provide refreshments, are also cash only. I can’t speak for the trade but I would expect that they are set up for card payment, wi-fi permitting. For a small club like ours the effort of setting up an internet bank account and getting a suitable phone etc is not likely to happen. See Kirkby in Ashfield in the exhibitions thread for details. Brian.
  6. This time next week it will be all over and we should be out of the Summit Centre. I have just made a change to the list of layouts, hopefully the last. Brian
  7. The layout list has been updated. We also have some demonstrations/displays. HMRC MERG DEMU Cardboard Works Trade. Sherwood Models Trackside Video Pete Abbott (second hand) G Harrison More information will follow as soon as I have it. Brian
  8. A few years ago we visited our son who works in Hong Kong and we were invited to a fish restaurant with some of his friends. I don’t know how the subject came up but trying to explain why we say “ay up me duck” to Hong Kong natives was interesting. Brian
  9. I have just updated the layouts confirmed for the show, we are still hoping to add to the list. We also have a display, Steaming Back to Kirkby Loco, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the closure of Kirkby-in-Ashfield MPD. More details of the show to follow. Brian
  10. It’s known as a Grondana, the W&LLR acquired them from Sierra Leone along with Hunslet 85 and some coaches. Brian
  11. Time to vote, my preferred choice would be number 5. I am no expert but if some were based at Barry the choice for me becomes easy. Brian
  12. I have recently had to repaint the frame for the garage door, to do this meant that I had to remove the back scene boards in order to open the door. The photos below are taken from the usually inaccessible side of the layout. I took the opportunity to low the height of the boards so they won't have to be removed next time I open the door. Brian
  13. The photos of CoT remind me of a passage in Adrian Vaughan’s book Signalman’s Morning in which he remembers her standing in for a failed diesel on the Bristolian. Not a sight to forget. Brian.
  14. I always like the photos showing inside the station, very atmospheric. Brian
  15. There was a new to me photo in the latest WRRC Archive magazine showing 36 which clearly shows spectacle frames. It is virtually impossible to get every detail right for any particular date, there just isn’t enough information. My aim was to get a model that looks right, I think I managed it. I have enjoyed looking at your blogs, something a bit different. Brian
  16. Having built one of these I can certainly agree that information is vague, very few photos to work from, mostly undated. They all spent most of their lives shunting in Barry docks, I believe the two that were tried on the main Barry line were modified to be of similar performance to the B1 0-6-2 tanks. What surprised me when I had finished the model was how small they were, you expect an 0-8-0 to be a big beast but there are posed photos with the crew standing by the smoke box which give a good idea. There are photos of my model on my Llanforen thread and also 88C’s workbench. Brian
  17. You don't always get it right first time. Ist attempt. 2nd attempt Can you spot the difference? It just didn't look right first time so the only thing to do is try again. Still a lot of detailing to do but the basics are there now. Brian

A long established model show presented by the Elizabethan Railway Society. We are hoping for 10 layouts plus trade support. Refreshments and free parking. Adults £4.50, accompanied children free. Saturday 10 - 5 Sunday 10 - 4 www.elizabethanrailwaysociety.com
  20. Not a lot of modelling done recently, still finding it hard to get motivated so have only done bits and pieces on buildings, not much to show really. I have spent time in the garage running trains so a couple of photos of a freight heading up the incline. I think the gunpowder van must have travelled from Little Muddle. The engine is a Mainline body on a Comet chassis, needless to say it runs a lot better now. It has also had the bunker modified to the earlier straight back style and it gets use a lot on Llanforen. Thanks to all the regular posters who keep me interested if not as busy as I should be but I'm getting there slowly. Best wishes to all, Brian
  21. Since the poll this week has involved 70' coaches I decided to find my only 70' coach. I have no idea how old it is but it is a MAJ kit, the type with printed overlays for the sides. Looking through my copy of Russell's book I think it may be Diag E111, I'm no coach expert so don't take my word for it. By the way, the cottages in the background are work in progress and the subsidence will be corrected when they are finished. Brian
  22. 1,5,9,10 for me please. I’m sure they are a bit long for my home layout, Llanforen, but would look good on a club layout. Brian
  23. What a wonderful forum this is, I am amazed at the response to my post about ChrisF. Glad you back on line, I know how much you get from being part of the community. Anyway, you managed to prove me wrong. Nice sunny day and later we will be meeting friends for lunch in Robin Hood country. Brian
  24. I had a good chat with my cousin ChrisF yesterday who, as you know, is suffering computer problems. The said machine is now with a second “expert” and Chris is expecting (hoping) to get it back on Monday. No doubt he will give you all his news when he can and it will take him ages to catch up with everything on here. Best wishes Brian
