What, the S1 appeared and disappeared before those of us on the colonies had time to realise it had happened. Any chance of a second batch being run off? Am after a GC original. I must get smarter with this pre ordering lark. Richard

Dettingen GCR might have been layout
richard i replied to richard i's topic in Pre-Grouping - Modelling & Prototype
To prove i have been learning This is what i hope to achieve. I have main frames, cab tender and i have cylindrs and valve gear on order that i hope to convert. This i can do in odd moments at work where as the modelling needs to stay at home. It gives impetus to continue with the overall project t achieve this all in 3d and in colour to really bring it to life. ...............And that Ladies and Gentlemen is why i model. -
Quite a few GCR tenders had them, certainly the bigger classes, they were left polished brass in GCR days so can be clearly seen even in black and white photos. The GCR after all kept its front line locos in top condition, even after ww1. Prior to the war even freight locos could be found bulled up, or did photographers ignore dirty subjects thus slanting the historical record? Richard

Have already seen one of the GCR 2-6-0 and it inspired me to order cylinders for my own take on the loco. Now to acquire the other bits I will need. Richard

My other distraction. I am aiming to capture something like this feel on my layout. Do not expand too large as this is not a long lost colour photo of the GCR but one i have tried to colour from a black and white original and i have still not mastered how to draw thin lines that angle across the photo because you have to rise up pixel layers and exactly how to do that smoothly is a mystery to me. I hope the colours come out well on all the different screens otherwise it might look horrible to you. If it does just move on and pretend you never saw it. Richard -
Quiz question if I may. I was gifted this kit half built and am trying to finish it, I only have the line drawing t go by. I have worked it all out except what looks like a double window insert as the NER CCT only seems to have single windows. Am I missing something? Any ideas from this learned group would be much appreciated. As an aside cleaning up crud and tarnish from many years of storage takes a while. I still feel there is a way to go before painting. You got rid of them so you would not get in trouble at home. Besides you only had engine sheds at the time. I will most likely turn to Wrighty if I get no joy here. Richard -

Questions With the next two up a couple of NER CCT what are the "what look like double window inserts" for? There are only single windows . The piece can be seen on the fret below the CCT . The double one also has single windows So what am I missing? Is it for documentation on the side of the van? If so where? Taking longer because there were four coaches, but more simple was the quad art. My contribution was the interior, roof vents and the foot boards . They role nicely along the track, how sharp a corner they will take I have yet to find out. Richard -
Some of the loss in value might stem from the original commissioner is paying for a specific loco in a specific condition at a specific time. They have to bid for the limited number of professional modellers' time to get it built. On the second hand market people are looking around and will take something if it shows up or is close to what they want, they are less sensitive to which loco it is and are more concerned over price as pockets are not as deep, or they would commission themselves. That is my take on the market forces at work. Richard

will follow with interest as i have a couple of NER NPCS (CCT) to paint and want to see how lettering might be as instructions ambiguous. This carriage might help. Richard

ThanksThat is very kind. The pace has slowed a lot recently as we close in on the end of the academic year. More developments likely after May is out of the way. Richard -

Fox transfers? They do all sizes up to the real railway size. -

Close ups of the companies stock. First the sanded down gresley stock, beading and paneling reinstated Then the other two which I am going to scratch build bogies for. Then the Lms ccts which will go in the grouping parcels train. The gresley stock for the parcels train Three GWR wagons. I think the monster/giant has to be grouping but I would be happy to find out it is pre grouping . Does it have ventilators? The others will run in pre grouping trains. Lastly the southern vans which will be split between the grouping and BR parcels train. Still working on the quad art, doing foot boards at present. Richard -

Clive you are a gentleman and a scholar. I have one bogie for the siphon so could play the what is this game. I am happy to build the side frames because none the end I need to scratchbuild 12 8ft bogies to go under my GCR Parker stock from worsley works. Richard But why Clive did you sand down one of the teak twins? -

Forgive me father I have sinned it is a good couple of months since I have built any thing GCR. The reason Years ago a kind friend in a clear out handed over a couple of boxes with half finished stock in them. I thought that they were taking up a lot of space for the 7 or 8 piece I thought were in the boxes. I knew there was a quad art set What I did not realise was that it also had all this. 27 carriages, parcel stock etc. ! Of all of them I found bits in the boxes to complete all except this The only things I will need to make / get are 14 coach wheels and 4 gresley bogie sides! ......And that does not include the 5 brass kits which are next in line which were in the boxes too! I do not use exclamation marks often but , dang you Clive, those were an incredibly generous set of boxes to hand over. I will finish them all, some to run in the BR era parcels train, a lot will get the teak treatment for a grouping pair of trains and a couple will mix in with the GCR stock as they are old enough. All those transfers are going to be a hit on the wallet. More photos as things move down the production line. It feels good though, I don't like having half finished pieces, it feels like potential crying out to be fulfilled. Richard -
Stations kept buildings if they were still open. Why replace a solid structure if BR? Just do the signage. If you lose the station completely you lose the ability to stop passenger trains, it takes away some of the play. If you do though the GC bricked in the tops of bridges and removed all buildings. Saves you hacking in to them and could be passed on to a good home.

New brand, new model - Rails Limited - LNER Dynamometer car
richard i replied to Andy Y's topic in Rails of Sheffield
Or it's north eastern livery for those of us odd enough to model then? That gives 2 possible livery variations for a follow up batch. -
But a b3 could use someb7 parts, as the freight version of it I am sure a lot was common, I just don't know what xactly how much without comparing drawings. Alan Gibson do frames for the b3, mike does the tender? So it is body work and cylinders which are needed.

Sort of , the wagons could come either way, I run in from under the bridge coming towards the station then shunt back into the exchange sidings. Then take some of the train into the private branch. Behind the layout is a headshunt which goes to two sidings, full wagons into one empties the other. So a swap of wagon at the back and via the headshunt bring the opposite type of wagon out to form a train to be taken away. First half of the sequence the branch goes to a collery, second half it goes to a factory/ power station / gas works. It also then allows other types of wagon to be exchanged. I would swap how the points work on the main line so it could also function as a branch junction and allow movements to flow on to both main lines if I did it again.Richard
