56. "Through to the Continent by British Rail."
simon b commented on C126's blog entry in Atherington Victoria & East Yard.
Getting some buildings on the layout is a big step forward, now you can really start to visualize how things will look. Depending on how you want the main grain warehouse to look, might I suggest the Walthers flour mill kit? It's a concrete framed building rather than brick, but the kit is adaptable in many ways and can create a monster building when stretched out. Although designed for US layouts it fits in on a UK based layout very well, take a look at Millway dock on here for ideas. Another suggestion would be the plant no4, I've used that a few times... -

I remember following the progress on SE mk1, had the makings of a fabulously grotty urban terminus. The design of the throat pointwork being a great space saver.

Thank you for those pictures, you have captured the atmosphere of the period perfectly. The shot of the class 24 being particularly good, looks just like the real thing.

Are there any more pics of Templefield in your collection? Would love to see some from the 1970's.

Another possibility is Sheerness-on-sea, freight trains sometimes reversed in the station rather than take the junction line.

Prototype for everything corner.

59005 holds that record, just shy of 12,000 tonnes by itself. -
Blackfriars is another.

That sounds very like this: https://esngblog.com/2017/10/31/not-quite-a-minories/, a very interesting idea just modeling the suburban platforms. There was also a great model of kings cross platform 14,15, and 16 built by a member on here. The pics are sadly gone from the thread, but I might have saved a few somewhere. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/133329-kings-cross-suburban/

An automated fiddle yard on a return loop setup perhaps?

Borough Market triangle. Neasden. Banbury. Of course if you like shuffling wagons around the approaches to Fenchurch street would keep 6 people busy.

Greenwich Bridge (Micro Layout done on a budget)

The scrapyard at Silvertown was still rail served into the 90's, that may be an ideal prototype to work from. Do a google search for "T W Ward Silvertown", trains were only around 5 wagons so perfect for a micro layout.- 28 replies

Prototype for everything corner.

It had 6 power cars on that, I'll bet it thundered away quite nicely. -
Peco 00 Bullhead turnouts. Can you curve them?
simon b replied to dasatcopthorne's topic in Handbuilt Track & Templot
As said above you can bend them a little to tweak the geometry, but not enough to make a curved point. -
East West rail, Bletchley to oxford line
simon b replied to porkie's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
It's cleared to 60mph for DMU's and 30mph for everything else, very slow when you consider Chilterns network is mostly cleared for 100mph. I'm not sure on passenger numbers, but it will never do well as a park and ride station. -

There will be at least one loop on the right side here, providing access to the hs2 depot. -
East West rail, Bletchley to oxford line
simon b replied to porkie's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
It will be reinstated, it's an important route to the Hs2 depot if nothing else. Also the most direct route to get the waste trains from London up to Calvert. -

That bridge over the A41 has been a problem for a long time, I think the height got raised slightly when they put the new single span in but not by enough. The old GCR girder span that used to be there was that rotten it had a speed restriction of something like 5MPH for all trains over it, if they left it much longer it would have collapsed on it's own. -

I believe so, yes. -

They are building a new unloading terminal a little closer to Aylesbury, I'm not sure when those trains will restart though. -

It's not so much the track itself, but what it's laid on. The drainage is a big issue, the bridge over the A41 would need to be sorted out (single span at present), the road overbridge at Calvert isnt long for this world, proper fencing, vegetation clearance, there would be alot to do in bringing that line up to standard. I wasn't aware it was CWR that far out, it was still jointed rail last time I was down there. I do wonder if it would make more sense to rebuild the Ashendon to Grendon line than try to double the Risborough branch, but then that creates a duplicate route with no real population to serve. Unless of course you build a new park and ride station off the A41 at Westcott, but is there the traffic to justify it? -

That will happen in time, but the problem is the line is in much the same condition as the line through Verney junction was. The only way to do it properly is to rip it up and start again, which just isnt in the budget right now. It would also need to include a major upgrade of the Aylesbury to Risborough line to make it worth doing.
