  1. I had an enjoyable day at York on Monday stewarding. Great to catch up with Tony and Mo again and discuss all things modelling! York was the first show I had been to in 12 months, with my personal life being up in the air, largely with my Dad's passing, my interests in model railways had dropped to an all time low. My current layout of Cwm Prysor has sat dormant for some months as I couldn't face it. Thanks to the likes of Tony and others, I've been able to slowly return to the hobby, and gradually turn that around as I focus on a new layout to get me modelling again. I've bought my first kit in ages, a J21 which with Tony's help I intend to crack on with shortly. I'm constantly held back by lack of confidence, and I really want to get kit building under my belt....so many wonderful prototypes out there, especially of a North Eastern variety. I've a Hornby B1 on the way, and after having a route through my modelling draws, I found I've a lovely Dave Bradwell chimney casting..... that will soon replace the Hornby one. Oh and thanks to Tony's suggestion (and mentioned earlier in the thread) my B1 (and K1) both have replacement Gibson bogie/pony waiting patiently to be fitted! Looking forward to Scale Four North in a week and a half!
  2. Back from a very enjoyable day at York doing my little bit of Stewarding on the door. This was my first show in 12 months, with my Dad's death and relationship issues over the past 10 months, I've not really been able to face the hobby. It was great to see so many good friends today and have a genuinely good catch up. London Road was very impressive to see in person, and I'm very glad to have seen Crumley & Little Wickhill on it's last outing, lovely scenic modelling. Managed to pick some things up for my latest project (Askrigg on the Wensleydale branch) in the form of a K1, and some bits and pieces (couple of new Peco bullhead points and track). Overall it was great to see good friends after a rather dark point in my life. Thanks all, and thank YMRS for what seems to have been another successful show!
  3. Looking great Alan! The interior looks very effective!
  4. Very nice video Graham! I certainly would like to pick a DVD up at some point....does J. Wealleans of the goods department make an appearance? Or does he stay out of sight hiding behind the fiddle yard?
  5. Very effective Tim! Nice work! Not quite ready for scratch building yet, Alan’s started work on the drawings for the 3D. I’m surprised nobody has done a kit. They are in most of my photos in the coal yards on the Wensleydale Branch.
  6. My friend Alan Jones of Coastline Models is looking into it as we speak. Alan’s had good success on having whole wagons printed (chassis and all). https://coastlinemodels.co.uk/index.php?id_category=2&controller=category
  7. David Geen does diagram 72 and 137 (I luckily have both to hand from a sale I did a few years ago with Scottiedog)
  8. Cheers Mike, yes it's the 13T variant which appears in a number of photos I've been looking at. See you at York?
  9. Does anyone produce this as a kit in 4mm? Post war builds I believe and surprisingly common on ex NE lines.
  10. I do indeed post here occasionally (primarily here and Jonathan Wealleans thread). I’m currently planning the next layout....very much North a Eastern again! Back to my roots. More info on LNER forum https://www.lner.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12623
  11. Operating to a timetable with correct stock is what I enjoy most. I don’t understand the point of building a layout of real place then running any old thing. That’s just me.
  12. Lovely Tony, I really like the obvious message that passengers must use the bridge! Seems people lacked common sense even in t’olden days!
  13. Not to take up Jonathan’s thread with anymore off topic talk. I’ve set up a thread on LNER forum https://www.lner.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12623
  14. Ah yes you had mentioned that in an email a year or so ago when I first had these ideas. I think you had said you thought it was a grounded body. Interesting location a long way from home.
  15. Indeed, although I suspect the era isn’t to your liking.
  16. 1950-1954 before passenger services ceased in April 54, but can run my K1 on goods up to 64. Sorry off topic Jonathan!
  17. Oh I’ll give you a sneak peek Mr King!
  18. Always admired your teak finish Jonathan! The grain is particularly effective. I've managed to pick up a Hornby Gresley Non Corridor Brake 3rd for the 'new' project. It's one of first releases with the decent teak finish. Hoping to achieve what I did 5 years ago on one of these (Now part of Brad's Whitby Westcliffe stock). Recently saw Hornby's current teak coaches.....awful!
  19. Well I’ve ordered 67342, she was a regular on the Wensleydale Branch in the early 1950’s and if the hopper top to the bunker is removable, then I’ll be able to convert others into variants that worked the branch.
  20. It was just a passing thought really, as I’m going to be at York (and possibly S4N), I’ll enquire then. Cheers
  21. Evening Mike! Lovely seeing your models once again, and enjoying my return to modelling North Eastern! Out of interest, do you know if the J21 kit from London Road models comes with an extended superheated smokebox as an option? Cheers Tom
  22. Well if you will deal with dodgy sellers.....
  23. Thanks for reply. I'll need to hang fire on preordering. I'm looking at examples that worked the Northallerton-Hawes Branch, and it seems a large number had westinghouse pumps, but coal cage (no hopper) in my photos. I would have suspected that the hopper would slot into the existing bunker design and should be fairly easy to remove, but we will have to wait and see.
