  1. Thanks - intriguing. ISTR a lot of newspaper articles in the local rags talking about it since your work in the 90s, but, of course never coming to anything. Then, more recently, there was the LOX airport proposal which (I think) included a large station at, or near, Wantage Road
  2. As noted by others, big thanks to the organisers for an enjoyable show Good to chat to everyone who stopped by City Basin Goods. Had a few coupling issues on Saturday and a loco that wouldn’t run properly, but all fixed on Sunday morning after which we were trouble free Nice mix of layouts on show, loved the mechanical lever frame on Ferring. Hope the Wakefield lads got home at a reasonable time, they were still knocking the layout down as we went out the door and they had a LONG drive home
  3. Looking forward to showing City Basin Goods over the weekend
  4. Pointless - to make that section 4 track would involve demolishing a substantial number of houses - it ain't going to happen this side of Arsene Wenger leaving Arsenal, the first manned expedition to Pluto
  5. There has been talk of rebuilding Wantage Road for years - it always falls down over lack of capacity on the (mainly) double track section from Didcot to Wootton Bassett
  6. City Basin Goods was at the East Surrey N Gauge exhibition last weekend - nice show. Thanks to all involved One photographer was using a small cube video camera and produced this video to show some unusual views of CBG - see 2:53 onwards. Thanks
  7. Looking good - amazing attention to detail in order to get an accurately marked out track plan. I spent a lot of time laying the track on my layout (and mine is only Peco Code 55) , and your care will pay dividends later on with a better looking layout and more reliable running
  8. Which is why it was no surprise that sticking the Paxman lump in did little to improve them
  9. I wish they would build a new road and bridge and close the crossings - everybody wins, even the locals who wouldn't have to sit at the crossings for ages waiting for them to open. However, there doesn't seem much chance of ANY new roads being built in South Oxfordshire to soak up all the extra traffic being generated by the never ending, virtually uncontrolled hosing development - at least, not in my lifertime
  10. Thanks Grahame - I must update with the latest stuff. Currently working on some Farish mineral wagons to replace the Peco kits. Also, after some comments on the lighting, I have obtained some warm white LED strip to replace half the current cool white LEDs
  11. Thanks Randall - much appreciated Next show for City Basin Goods is Redhill on 14th April
  12. Thanks to all who organised it. Enjoyed showing City Basin Goods Congratulations to whoever made the dark fruit cake - it was delicious
  13. You got a few seconds coverage - enough for me to clearly recognise the layout. All looked to be running well
  14. Was helping out on Abingdon for the weekend - very nice show. Full marks for feeding us on Friday evening as well - much appreciated Agree with some of the 2nd hand stock on sale. While I spent my money stocking up on a few bits and pieces that can't be had easily through the post these days, some of the stuff that was being flogged (or attempted anyway) defied belief
  15. Possibly, but if that was the case, the line through Edale most likely would have closed. By the late 70s there wasn't the traffic to keep all the Trans Pennine routes open. Had it hung on as a diesel worked line into the late 80s, then maybe it would still be with us
  16. If lineside vegetation can cause a network blackspot I'm surprised you can get a signal anywhere
  17. 'Tongue in cheeck mode on' - It'll be like the proposal to harmonise our roads with the EU so that we drive on the right. Lorries first in order to phase the change in :) 'Tongue in cheek mode off'
  18. I've been getting Sonos kit as presents from relatives (or cash towards them) for several years so now have several speakers of varying sizes and a Sub unit dotted around the house. Also have a Spotify premium account which supposedly streams high quality audio and it sounds pretty good to me !! Just interfaced an Amazon Alexa device into the mix - now I can voice control the Sonos kit and ask it to play anything from Spotify
  19. Some Christmas crackers in whats been posted I've probably posted this one before but it is a very snowy scene Nottingham In The Snow by Stephen Dance, on Flickr
  20. The best acronym I ever came across was the pension scheme for the Atomic Energy Authority who I worked for in the mid/late 80s Personal National Insurance and Superannuation Scheme :) Somebody obviously had a sense of humour that was never noticed !!!!
  21. Thanks everyone - I shall pick up a pack of N sized skips next time I see one at a show
  22. Anyone remember when skips for dumping rubbish/building waste in started to become a common site in the UK please ? They are such a useful item for filling a dead space on a layout, but I'm not sure if they are in period for City Basin Goods which is set around 1969/70 Thanks
  23. I know - the latest batch to be announced is Oxfordshire's share of the new houses which will be attached as a requirement for building the new Oxford - Cambridge 'Expressway' - 100000 more. that's like parachuting another Oxford sized city (or more) into the county
