  1. Thanks for all the suggestions folks. As Ian said i'm trying it out at his when we can sort out a time. A lesson for all here I think as I was just about ready to chuck it out of the window instead I have got on with some nice relaxing scenic work to Bulwell Market aka Hucknall Market and I am once again at peace with the world .
  2. My powercab has a problem? No light on the front panel, the handset display is working and responds to buttons being pressed etc in the display panel, but it is not sending power to the track. Any suggestions or where I might send it for repair?
  3. Using soil is so easy. Sieve it, bake it, use it. Endless supply in my back garden. Word of warning! Wait until the wife goes out for the day as the baking process smells and gives the game away leading to a completely avoidable domestic about cooking soil in her oven. Unhygenic apparently.
  4. Just so as to give a bit back to this invaluable site and its users I have continued researching and have come across some great photos on two facebook pages. Bulwell bygones and Bulwell photos. Anyone thinking of modelling the area would find them immensely helpful. Again thanks to the responders to my OP.
  5. Thanks everyone for taking the trouble to reply with really helpful information.
  6. Any pictures or a track plan of this station on the LMS Nottingham to Mansfield line would be much appreciated. A new layout at the planning stage.
  7. Reading this thread with interest. Hucknall Byron aka Evesham Midland is a very simple layout with only I point on the scenic section. It is dcc with droppers from prewired joiners on pretty much every section down to a bus. Quite randomly when starting a running session locos will sometimes not run until I have wiped the ( spotless to my eyes) rail tops. I either use a piece of hardboard or a peco track rubber then a paper towel. There are always some marks showing on the towel after this treatment so daft question just how clean do tracks need to be? Dcc seems very unforgiving I am afraid. Another theory? The layout is in a dry but unheated room so when the heater goes on to make life comfortable would just enough condensation form to cause problems? I would be interested to hear other peoples theories on this. Oh and happy Christmas to everyone.
  8. When you have grassed the slope, all imperfections (that you perceive are there at the moment) will disappear.
  9. As far as i am concerned best offer means something like a reasonable bid against the starting price of the auction process. If i have an item listed at a minimum that i will accept and someone makes a bid way below it then they are just wasting mine and theirs time i am afraid.
  10. Thanks Charlie, I was going to ring you about that. Will now have to have a rethink.
  11. Thanks Charlie, I have sent you an email and I think Richard Croft has as well. That would be great, I will give you a ring as soon as the model arrives and I have taken the top off to look at (what will be) my first go at an installation. I do know that it has an 8pin socket so I hope that doesn't make it to difficult for me to do.
  12. I don't think exhausts are in it. Mainly buffer beam detailing I think. Around £7 plus postage.
  13. My recently aquired dcc ready Hornby class 101 will need a decoder. My layout is basically a scenic area of a station with bridges at both ends as a scenic break to a fiddle yard. I already have a Bachmann DMU with leggomans excellent sound project fitted but my new (smaller by necessity) layout does not do it justice. For this model i am thinking a tts decoder and living with what will be i know a compromise. There is not currently a tts dmu decoder so i have spent some time listening to the range of available sounds and am currently trying to convince myself that the class 31 does indeed sound a lot like the craven engine. Ok there are no gear changes or twin start ups but the "tinny" rasp seems to be there to my ears anyway. For an extra £20 or so over a non sound decoder I need convincing that this is a good way to go.
  14. Thanks everybody for all the information, Dave 47549 has saved me a trip to Loughborough with my camera and 31As work has inspired me to have a go. In the meantime I contacted Bachmann more in hope than anything else to see if the "bag of bits" for their 101 can be purchased and to my surprise it can!
  15. Has anyone added front buffer beam detail to Hornbys class 101 DMU? Vac pipes, couplings, and other assorted bits and bobs? A source for the necessary items and a photograph would be grately appreciated as would advice on adhesives.
  16. Thanks for the info, I will get my " techy" on it.
  17. Spoke too soon. Bachmanns D211 is back to running like a bag of nails. How easy is it to fit either more pick ups and/or a stay live? Cant be doing with it as it is
  18. Finally got round to doing this! Seems to have done the trick. Thanks
  19. Yes thanks for that. I did a bit more research after my post and came up with a lot more useful information. I wonder how the member who started this thread is getting on with his layout? My effort is only a fraction of his proposal and it took me forever to build it.
  20. Just found this thread completely by accident on a search for coal traffic through Evesham. I thought I was the first to find the "perfect" actual location for a nice layout in the 11x6 space I had available. My layout is complete and although compressed somewhat I have been able to achieve I think a fair representation of the areas between the two bridges of the Midland line and also a little bit of the adjacent Great Western station. Look out for my efforts on facebook where my locoman 8f will be appearing on coal traffic. Incidentally I would love to know if a Stanier 8f ever ventured onto BRs version of this particular line, doubtful I know but hey ho.
  21. Thank you for all the replies, as usual on here there are responses from a lot of knowledgeable people. I am modelling quite "a fluid" period of time on a layout that could be ( if you have an open mind) any where on BRs eastern region between say 1958 and 1964. I did think that Pullmans ran in mixed rakes and needed to have it confirmed by some experts. Thanks again.
  22. Yes Ian, that's what I meant. The only reference to mixed rakes is a suggestion that a couple of Pullmans would be added to a normal Mk 1 formation and then a supplement would be charged. A super !st class if you like. I have not been able to prove this though despite a full "snowed in" day of webb research.
  23. Were Pullmans and BR mark ones ever used together in the same formation? If so where would the Pullmans be placed in the rake? I think I may have seen one placed behind a class 40 with the rest of the train being mark ones but I am not sure, its a long time ago. I have trawled through various web sources but have been unable to find the definitive answer.
  24. Here we go again.Do not use Sundeala for the reasons given by hundreds of posters on here.
