  1. Do you know what the duty free policy is? Is it levied per item or per shipment? You may be able to pay up and claim it back. I had to do this with something from the US to UK once, but it took about 3-4 months to settle and was a lot of hassle. I feel your pain.
  2. I have shipped a number of things out to Australia over the years, and twice have had the unpleasant situation when said items disappeared for about a week, only to turn up unannounced, but safe. I hope this is what happens to your items best Steve
  3. Yes it is not the most user friendly site. As I live in the UK I always phone to confirm my order. It may be worth the extra cost of a phone call to save a lot of time and hassle. Love your layout, looking forward to more loco weathering updates as you get around to them cheers
  4. HI. i'm looking for 2 Three light ground signals to complete my project does anyone have any they would like to sell ?
  5. That would be one of the best excuses along with ' how does it work with my solar panels ?' It is one of the biggest waste of money scams of modern times . I wonder how long it will take for the truth to come out.
  6. The Dapol rep told me Yesterday at MIOG that they were in production now, so should be end of year/new year.
  7. It really is outstanding isn't it. Have you become involved in the customising of the rolling stock or are you sworn to secrecy?
  8. Having also worked in the gas industry I agree with most of Apollo's postings. The thing is that in principle Smart Metering is a good idea, it should empower customers to be able to make economies by giving them more detail. However. In practice there are several downsides. First these devices are prone to shutting off on failure (you have no gas) old mechanical meters did occasionally bind up but I think I changed less than 10 in over 35 years in meterwork. I was doing 4 a week before I left this year. Second the systems do not talk to one another, if you are all smartmetered up with supplier A, then change to supplier B, then your smart meters ain't smart anymore, mainly because companies sharing billing info and systems is sure to be against the law for one. It may also interest you to know that domestic gas meters had the capability to be smart since 1990/91 and from '83/'84 on industrial meters by addition of a reed switch to count the number of revolutions of the index. The question has to be, Why change a meter when all you need to do is fit and seal a battery powered reader on to it (they were made with this provision), which if it fails will only affect the reader and not your supply. Meters were changed on a 25 yearish cycle, but the last time I looked in the old meter skip it was hard to spot anything older than 10 years old, such was the effect of current business practices. We all know about railways on here, so we know government interference is not a good thing, smartmetering is yet another example of this. Just wait till all the batteries start dying in a few years time. I am glad I retired early !!!
  9. Well that developed quickly We certainly had them in 1984 at work when you just held your breath for the dust! Today you would be in very hot water if you used one without dust suppression, and appropriate PPE.
  10. Simon you will need to see if modelu would print a Stihl saw for you

  14. Really like the wagon sheets in the last pic. How were they done?
  15. Speaking as a Railway Modeller it would have been nice to have a bit more Railway in it, but my wife really enjoyed it, so well done to all concerned as the idea is to make modelling and railways more appealing in general, which I think it did. Also all the teams efforts were very good considering the time element. I look forward to ep2
  16. Steve I will definitely miss seeing your work. I hope you are able to be back soon best wishes Steve S

  20. Simon I have made an accidental discovery which may be of some use to you. I have been experimenting with water effects and decided to use clear pva to make some puddles. This worked OK when put on top of varnish, but when I put it directly on to the cinders and ballast it looked fine when wet, but when it dried out it lifted from the material below looking nothing like a puddle, but looking very like a frozen over puddle. I will try to get a picture of the effect, unfortunately I removed the offending material then realised that you are trying to create a winter scene and this may be of some use to you. I have been using your techniques on my very small layout with great success. Whizzing up the static grass in the blender makes a big difference when using it in the applicator. Thanks for that tip Steve
  21. Did you get any joy with this? I have acquired a green small warning panel Hymek, but am Ideally wanting a Blue Small yellow panel
