  1. 37402 approaches Warrington station with a working from Crewe to Carlisle Kingmoor Depot today.
  2. Brilliant photos Jim. I really like the wildlife twist with some Colas class 70 action.
  3. A special visitor to Wigan North Western, my local station.
  4. DRS 37612 comes to a stop at a red signal at Warrington Bank Quay last night at around 20:30 working the Sellafield to Crewe flasks with 20305 behind it whilst a Freightliner class 66 66557 comes out of Old Walton Sidings and crosses it's path. The 66 was a coal train back to Hunterston from Fiddlers Ferry which are now running 3 times a day. Does any one know which locos have been on the other Hunterston to Fiddlers Ferry coal trains the past few days?
  5. Hello Colin I am sure that someone else on here will provide you with a more detailed answer but I have worked on DR79231 in the photo below in 2011 at Crewe. DR79231 is a grinder train that re profiles the rail surface, travelling at slow speeds whilst the grinder wheels are set up to do their business. The crew thought one of the generator engines had a misfire but it turned out to just be a blowing exhaust gasket. The crew on this train stayed with it most of the time and could do anything from drive the train from location to location, perform their own maintenance i.e changing grinding wheels, cleaning out all the dust and metal swarf that's produced and obviously operate the controls when the trains is actually grinding. I am sure that one of the blokes on the train said they sometimes travel with a conductor as some of the time they must not have the route knowledge.
  6. Sounds like a plan! I've got Hornby 60048 in EWS livery DCC sound which is just about obsolete now unless I park it in a siding and say it's in storage. You will have to post the result of your respray somewhere on here.
  7. Thanks very much. Yes they already have. 60047 can be seen with the new logo in Jims down by the tracks with colas thread. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/70783-jims-down-by-the-tracks-with-colas-thread/page-95
  8. Posted a few photos on the "Network Rails track machine Tampers etc" of the new logo. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/94572-network-rails-track-machines-tampers-ect/page-2&do=findComment&comment=1953164 Not sure if I've got the link right.
  9. Colas Rail tamper DR73108 "Tiger" comes into Warrington Bank Quay Station on Sunday 12th July 2015 sporting Colas Rails new Helmet logo. DR73910 "Jupiter" passing through Wigan North Western sporting the old Colas Rail helmet logo on 1st April 2015
  10. I took a photo of the new colas rail helmet logo of Colas Rail Tamper DR73108 as the nameplate drew my attention when it came into Warrington on Sunday morning. It was named "TIGER". I will share a couple of photos if Jim doesn't mind, but I am sure he can sort some good photos.
  11. A couple of class 66's working engineers trains from various locations in the north west on the West Coast Mainline passing through Warrington Bank Quay this morning.
  12. Just before 13:00 today Harry Needle Rail Company HNRC class 08 shunter 08924 is busy forming a train of car transporters at Speke in Liverpool. A GBRF class 66 is hooked up to the rake of wagons and is set to leave shortly for Dagenham.
  13. Here's a couple of pictures from the Ellesmere Port Manisty Wharf to Fiddlers Ferry powers station which is nearly always hauled by a Freightliner class 70. I am still trying to master this new camera. Here is 70002 heading down Slutchers Lane in Warrington heading towards Arpley Junction to run around at Latchford Sidings. Crew change at Arpley signal box! I asked the driver when the last train from Manisty Wharf in Ellesmere Port will be running. He seemed to think it was either Friday 19th or Friday 26th June as Clydeport Operations at Manisty Wharf will be closing on 30th June.
  14. Who are you looking at? A face-off between 60087 and 66849 at Hellifield yesterday. I like both of these locos, both suit the colas colour scheme too but I think the Class 60 just shades it for me.
  15. Hello Jim and thanks for the tip-off that there was a 60 on it yesterday. Yes Warrington to Hellifield was quite a drive and we would probably have stopped in Warrington or go back to Wigan had we known that the 60 was stopping on. The drive would have been even longer had we missed your train yesterday but we got there with a bit of time to spare. Sorry I would have liked to have had a chat to you but I didn't want to mither you, especially with two kids with me. My little lad went a bit quiet when we heard off other people on the platform that the 60 was staying on as he kept asking to see you uncouple the two locos. Thank you again for the info, I enjoy reading your posts and looking at the photos of the places you get to. We hope there will be a Colas class 70 venturing up the north west in the future, not seen one since you moved 70806, 70807 and then 70810 from Liverpool docks.
  16. A day off work today so took the kids out for the afternoon and caught 70002 again on the Ellesmere Port Manisty Wharf to Fiddlers Ferry Power Station. Here is the train passing over the level crossing on Old Liverpool Road in Warrington where Monks Signal Box is located just after 13:00. Was chatting to the signal man out of the window who was saying just how quiet the line is now compared to a couple of months ago when the coal fired power stations were stockpiling coal before the taxation went up. From here we drove to Hellifield to see the Carlisle to Chirk log train with a Colas class 60 on the front!!
  17. A big thanks to Big Jim for the tip-off on his "down by the tracks with Colas" thread that this was running today as it coincided we me having the day off work! So I took the kids to Hellifield today to catch a glimpse of our first Colas class 60. Looking very smart in the Colas Rail livery was 60087 66849 still managing to photo bomb the Carlisle to Chirk log train!! Then it was time for off with the Class 60 staying on the front of the train. 60087 and 66849 continue their journey.
  18. The Carlisle to Chirk log train passing over Whalley viaduct today with Colas Rail Class 60 60087 on the front and 66849 behind. Went to Hellifield where it stopped on the goods loop for a while, then driving home managed to get ahead on the train so stopped on the A59 to take this picture before heading home.
  19. Stopped off at Seascale which is just south of Sellafield Power Station on the Cumbrian coast after working in Whitehaven and managed to see one of the loco hauled trains from Barrow. 37609 was at the front of the train. 37423 was on the rear
  20. After working in Cumbria for the best part of a week and a half I finally managed to catch one of the loco hauled Cumbrian coast services. I finished my job in Whitehaven and decided to have a drive down to the coast road to Seascale just south of Sellafield Powerstation. 37609 was at the front of the train. 37423 was on the rear I am going to post some other pictures of the two locos in the "Class 37 Photos Tread"
  21. The Ellesmere Port Manisty Wharf to Fiddlers Ferry coal trains are finally running again after an absence of around 2 months. Here's 70002 last night at around 20:30 at Walton junction heading towards Arpley junction. Here is 70002 again after running around its train at Latchford sidings. The train is now on the Warrington low level heading towards Fiddlers Ferry Power Station. There's plenty of clag as the train takes it nice and slowly through the Unilever factory complex before accelerating away.
  22. Photo removed. I didn't realize that the passing trains had to be the same type as it doesn't say at the beginning of the thread. Looking through previous posts it looks like the criteria was lost on the topic. Ah well, more of a challenge to get a photo to post on here in the future! Cheers. Peter
  23. Went doing a job at the Network Rail site at Carlisle Yard where they recycle the old ballast, crushing it down and reusing for many applications in the construction industry. Took the camera just incase . . . . . . As I drove onto the site i saw the Colas Rail compound with 66849 being loaded with logs. Onto the ballast site after getting waved across the busy loop by the driver of 66510 where alot of the freights are held before rejoining the West Coast Main Line. DRS 66303 was next Followed by GBRF 66746 Then a double-headed Tesco express 66424 on the front 66421 behind it Some of the wagons in the sidings I was thinking of starting my own photo thread with these pics but not brave enough. I get to go to a few rail served industries in the North West of England with work. I then had a drive to find DRS KIngmoor Depot where I saw two more Class 66's. The depot is the other side of the bridge. 66156 with some strange containers Freightliner Class 66 66549 with some empty coal hoppers from Fiddlers Ferry Power Station in Warrington heading to Hunterston
  24. I was working in Carlisle today and decided to try and locate Direct Rail Services KIngmoor Depot when I had finished my job. I had a look on Real Time Trains and noticed a working from the depot to Oxenholme Lake District planned. It was due to leave in 20 mins so I waited around. Here's DRS 57036 moving out of KIngmoor depot. The driver poses for the trains first photo of the day. Heading over the viaduct spanning the River Eden With 57312 on the rear Glad I waited.
  25. The roof of DRS Class 57 57306 at Caldew Junction (I think) today running to Oxenholme Lake District
