  1. Direct Rail Services Carlisle Kingmoor Depot today with a Class 20, 68 and a 57 in view. The 57 later ran to Oxenholme Lake District which I managed to get some photos of and will upload later in the "Class 57 photos thread"
  2. Two pics of Warrington Bank Quay today with the Unilever Factory dominating the landscape as a Virgin Pendolino and Voyager service leave heading towards Wigan North Western, my hometown.
  3. DR73914 "Robert McAlpine" runs into a siding at Warrington Bank Quay before heading off up north. Just a snap shop of some of the equipment on the massive HOBC train which was hauled by Freightliner 66618 today.
  4. A couple of Class 66's from today going through Warrington Bank Quay Station. First up Freightliner 66618 with the HOBC train. I didn't catch the rear loco. 66544 pulling some wagons with lengths of rail is stopped at a red signal on the goods loop. 66017 in Arpley Sidings with a car train that will probably be running tomorrow. Colas Rail 66849 with a Sunday running empty log train stops very briefly for a driver change as my little boy Ollie, who is 4, looks on . . .
  5. A photo inspired by the contributors to this thread. 90024 in First Scotrail livery and 90036 "Driver Jack Mills" in DB Schenker livery parked in the bay at Warrington
  6. A couple of these machines parked up in Warrington Bank Quay today. In the platform bay was DR80213 stoneblower In Arpley Sidings was DR98962
  7. Went out to Warrington Bank Quay this morning for a hour or so. Not much running today but saw the HOBC train with three Freightliner 66's with 66597 on the front and 66618 behind it and 66585 on the rear heading towards Crewe from Garstang/Catterall on the WCML. and 66585 on the rear. There was also 92023 parked in the bay and a Network Rail "stoneblower" in another bay.
  8. An unknown DRS class 66 passes over Whalley Viaduct with a working from Carlisle to Crewe which was pathed over the S&C line on 15th April 2015. The Colas Rail logs was not that far behind but I could not hand around long enough to see it. Freightliner Class 66 66551 heads up the WCML today just south of Carnforth with a empty coal train from Garston in Liverpool to Hunterston.
  9. Saw this HNRC (Harry Needle Rail Company) at Speke in Liverpool today. Photo taken between a gap in the fence railings. Despite my best efforts I could not get any closer to get a better picture as the zoom is useless on phone camera. I believe the 08 shunter is 08924 but may be wrong.
  10. Thanks Mick! I didn't realise that it was the FA Cup Semi Final. Lost touch with football with Wigan Athletic doing so bad this year . . . Wigan winning the FA Cup ourselves seems a long time ago now. It's good to have a few different hobbies and interests!
  11. SUNDAY 66'S AT ACTON BRIDGE ON WCML I decided to have a ride to Acton Bridge on the WCML early this morning with the Mrs and kids with a promise to call at the garden center on the way home. There were 6 freights due in a 1 hour period if they all ran and on time. I missed the Wigan Springs Branch to Crewe as it passed just as we were getting out of the car which was a Freightliner 66. Here's what we did see which was dominated by DB Schenker 66's in EWS livery. 1st was 66171 on the Halewood Jaguar Cars in Liverpool to Southampton Docks Next was 66074 from Preston Docks to Crewe Then top and tailed was the Preston Fylde Jcn to Crewe with 66015 at the front and 66078 on the rear. Also saw some sort of passenger working with two DRS 57's top and tailed. Would have liked to have seen a 70 really but not bad for a hours stint.
  12. Saw this working at Acton Bridge today on the WCML. It was a Crewe to Liverpool South Parkway - Liverpool South Parkway to Wembley Central with DRS class 57's top n tailed. Locos were 57306 and 57301. Maybe someone has some more info on the working? Pics taken with camera on mobile phone . . . a new camera is on birthday wishlist! Here's the train heading towards Liverpool South Parkway with 57306 on the front at 08:58 At 10:14 the train returned heading south. 57301 now at the front.
  13. It was in need of a bit of a freshen up. It was looking a bit scruffy on the 20th August 2014 last year when it was on a coal working to Fiddlers Ferry Power Station. Not sure if this Powerhaul livery suits a 66 though!
  14. It would be nice to see some Colas Rail class 70's working in the North West again. These photos are from 1/05/2015 last year when 70806 and 70807 were moved from Liverpool docks. Managed to divert my drive home from work to park up near Winwick junction just north of Warrington to catch the move and take some pics with camera on phone. Only joined this website as a member recently hence reason for posting now. Managed to catch 70810 at Liverpool Seaforth docks when working on 28/05/2014. Never seen any in the area since and unfortunately missed the time a 70 worked the logs from Carlisle to Warrington.
  15. Managed to catch DB Schenker Class 60 with 60011 in charge of the Fiddlers Ferry Power Station to Liverpool Bulk Terminal. Didn't get to the docks in time to see the GBRf biomass train from Liverpool to Ironbridge Power Station though this morning but saw one yesterday so nice to catch a 60 today. 60011 enters the docks over the crossing Running towards the coal terminal where it will run around then reverse all the hoppers under the loading tower HTA coal hoppers . . . . usually 23 of them!
  16. Caught GBRf Class 66 "Harry Beck" 66721 at the stop board at Liverpool Bulk Terminal today with a train load of Biomass bound for Ironbridge Power Station. There's alot of work going on at the docks at the moment with work started on the new container terminal to take the super ships. Looks like they are reworking the track just after the loading tower at EON where they load the trains with coal or biomass. Crossing the dock road Over the wall in European Metal Recycling's yard are some old wagons awaiting their fate . . . . . probably cut up and off to China to be melted down and recycled.
  17. I remember being on the minature railway seen on your picture as a kid and my Grandad running around the lake after my hat because the wind blew it off. Had some great holidays in North Wales as a kid back in the day and now as a parent, most recently this Easter in Porthmadog and a day in Barmouth.
  18. A couple from Barmouth in Wales over the Easter bank holiday. A nice seaside town with a famous mostly wooden railway bridge at 699 meters long apparantly and is single track. An Arriva trains class 158 just passed over the bridge heading to Barmouth station I have been to Barmouth before as it's one of my favorite places for a day out with the family but never twigged that you can actually walk across the bridge. Here's 158829 passing over the bridge which has some interesting trackwork having just left Barmouth station. 158829 passes me heading towards Birmingham International.
  19. Here's a few Class 66's that went through Wigan North Western on the WCML today DRS double-headed Daventry to Mossend with 66423 & 66424 on the front. Was hoping for 68's. Next was 66120 light engine to Arpley Sidings in Warrington from Carlisle 66009 with a train of empty coal hoppers from Arpley Sidings to Carlisle 66429 from Mossend to Daventry 66419 from Fiddlers Ferry Power Station to Hunterston with a train of empty coal hoppers
  20. This caught me by surprise today at Wigan North Western. No mention of this on Realtime Trains website, just a station announcement to stand well away from the edge of the platform as the approaching train does not stop. DB 67026 Diamond Jubilee didn't get a photo of the 67 on the rear unfortunately.
  21. A couple of Class 47's at Wigan North Western today on a West Coast Railways special. 47760 on the front of the train and on the back was 47580
  22. A forced days holiday today due to my 1 1/2 year old daughter being a bit poorly so had a drive to Acton Bridge just south of Warrington on the WCML. Never been here before today but heard it can be a good place to see freight along the WCML. Also due to being south of various junctions you get the freight workings to and from the likes of Widnes, Runcorn and Liverpool. The trains tend to be travelling at some speed through here so with just a camera phone and some sunshine and showery weather here's the results. Here's 66027 with the empties from Southampton to Halewood Jaguar Cars factory in Liverpool Going south is 66080 with a loaded train from Halewood Jaguar Cars factory in Liverpool to Southampton Docks Freightliner 66594 passes Acton Bridge from Crewe to Ditton
  23. DB Schenker Class 60 66024 Clitheroe Castle stands along side 66011 outside the workshop at Arpley Sidings in Warrington today.
  24. A couple of 66's from today's visit to Warrington GBRF 66701 Liverpool Bulk Terminal to Ironbridge loaded biomass GBRF 66761 Liverpool Bulk Terminal to Ironbridge loaded biomass Freightliner 66610 Bolton to Crewe Basford Hall DB Schenker Hunterston to Fiddlers Ferry Power station loaded coal Freightliner 66552 Fiddlers Ferry Power station to Ellesmere Port Manisty Wharf
  25. There were two 08 Shunters at Arpley Sidings in Warrington today. They were 08428 in the old EWS livery and 08623 in the new DB Schenker red livery.
