  1. Good evening everyone, I went to the grand opening yesterday. Lovely new, much bigger shop! Members of Leigh Model Railway group officially cut the ribbon at 12pm and opened the shop. A very nice buffet with bucks fizz was also provided free of charge. The new shop is well lit, with plenty of space to move around plus they still have their DCC demo layout but now have a working Scalextric layout for people to play on and the kids were enjoying it. A nice touch is the sofa and table, which has all the latest catalogues on it to read through, at the back of the shop, handy for inspecting those purchases or for she who must be obeyed to sit on. I picked up Bachmann's 32-377A Large Logo class 37 for £110.00, very pleased with her lovely model. I wish them luck in their new shop and I will be very soon. All the best Charles
  2. Taken from their website today: We have secured a lease on a new shop in a new location. The new shop is far bigger than the current one, so we will be able to stock products we've been wanting to for ages but due to space we've been unable to. We have moved to 119 Bradshawgate, Leigh, Greater Manchester, WN7 4ND and are situated on the main shopping street. Our new shop is now open for business! Our opening hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 10:00-17:00, closed Thursday & Sunday. Even though we are now open, our official grand opening is on Saturday May 13th and everyone is invited to come and join us. There will be a free buffet plus Jason our DCC sound, lights etc guru will be here. There is plenty of free parking around the new shop plus the guided busway stops just around the corner. There is also a bus to Leigh from Warrington, St. Helens and Earlestown for those who don't drive. We always knew we'd need a bigger shop but didn't think it would happen within the first three years of being open. We look forward to seeing you all soon! I shall be popping in this week and will certainly be at the grand opening next saturday All the best Charles

  5. It's ebays fees that put me off. 10% on selling price, 10% on postage and paypal take their cut to.
  6. The item I was offering to sell, they have another for sale at £250. 250-85 = lots of profit. I'll be trying my local model shops instead and see what they offer.
  7. I decided to try out their 'we buy pre owned' service. I emailed them with the details of my Howes sound fitted loco and waited for a reply. A few hours later I got an email response from them with a shameful offer for my loco, £85.00. Suffice to say I rejected the offer straight away.
  8. I popped into Sawyer Models today as it was there first birthday (I got some birthday cake & bubbly upon my arrival) and they are selling the BR, BR Lined & Southern E4s for £89.00. As the 8 weeks has passed retailers are allowed to drop the price if they wish. I asked them about the LBSC E4 and they said it is due in week commencing 26th May.
  9. It's quite sneaky them doing that, it makes it look like it's brand new if you don't read it carefully. Most other websites I've looked on have a separate section for pre-owned items and are considerable cheaper than Hattons pre-owned prices!
  10. What I don't understand is why Hattons have announced pre order prices for items that Bachmann themselves haven't even decided a price on? I think the pre order price of the Midland Pullman Pack is far to low. I will be waiting until it is released before I decide if I am purchasing one and if I do i'll be going to my local model shop for it.
  11. as i said in one of my previous posts, don't just use the big boys, go local. You'll find many independent model shops charge the same as the big boys and in some cases less. If we don't support local model shops the overall result will be just the big boys left and they will be able to charge what ever they want as there will be little if any competition.
  12. i stopped using Hattons years ago and support the small retailers who match Hattons and in many cases are cheaper. I work in Warrington and used to use Penketh but as that is now closed and moved elsewhere I use other independent retailers (was in Sawyer Models last week and they we're cheaper than Hattons on several items, going to visit Widnes this week and see what they have in stock). It pays to look around first rather than just going to the big boys.
  13. the BR lined green loco was released after Bachmann announced the price increase of £5. the other two models were released before the price increase
