  1. From my limited research so far, there are quite a few options and routes for the Cartic-4s. From block workings so single sets in Speedlink trains, possibly even with Polybulks. Their length in service also makes them a great choice. I am looking at the mid to late 80s so I will be going for the ones with the protection panels added. Only question now is which ones, how many  and what cars to use, They are going to look good behind a 47.

Sorry @RBE, I didn’t mean to set the hares racing! I was just trying to work out if my proposed helix should be a 2nd/3rd radius or a 3rd/4th and if I could save some money and space, as I have 008 and 093 on pre-order.

Fantastic news about being able to remove any offending parts and certainly I would not not be able to see the difference.the

    Off topic but I would go for 3rd / 4th radius over 2nd / 3rd regardless.

The stand was empty because KR Models were not there or because no-one was talking to KR Models.

If the former, why did they bother attending and if the latter, I guess that's why we don't have an N gauge King in development or any other of KR Models N gauge proposals.

    A shame either way.

An interesting new marketing approach that I have not seen before. I wish them well with it.

The door locking lights mean that these can’t be used for a 70/80s blue grey set I presume? Also odd with the line.

Correct. I have given up on Hornby doing a full set of HST MK3s for the 70/80s period to a modern standard and without the mistake of incorrect roof on the buffet, mismatched TGS etc.

At least they have retooled the more modern versions but from the artwork for this set, the buffet roof looks to be wrong again. I have not seen the model itself however.

I wonder if Hornby would consider issuing the LNER "Claud" and B12 in their original Great Eastern conditions.

    1. GER livery is ravishing with its dark blue paintwork, abundant brass and copper-capped chimneys.

    2. With their Gresley boilers they look to me more like LNER locos than GER ones.

    3. This is subjective but to me both classes in Gresley guise look rather staid and old-maidish, whereas in GER form they seem rather rakish and continental - a foretaste of what might be encountered beyond Hook of Holland.

    4. For lovers of the grotesque, the B12s could be issued as "Hikers" with feed water heater apparatus.

    5. Deveopment costs would be reduced by use of existing chassis.

    :)

I am sure Accurascale are delighted to know what Hornby should do.

  6. The first few batches of Vitrains 37s had traction tyres, the later ones did not and neither did the 47s. The traction tyres are not needed and I remember getting spares and replacing them. I got the complete axel as a spare. Unfortnately, I am not sure where the ones I removed are otherwise you could have them. I do recall seeing someone replace them with other tyres for re gauging to EM so it is definitely possible.

Ah, but did the 2c ever catch the boat to the Emerald Isle?

As per the link I posted to the NIR coach pack.

NIR bought new 2Bs but they also bought some used ones from BR as well as 5 x 2Cs. One of those 5 is in one of the NIR triple packs announced yesterday. They even put one of their mk2s into service on a cross border train before repainting it. I have seen a photo of a mk2 in blue/grey in Dublin Connolly station. :)
