  1. You may find some of these video's useful, especially Glebe Road Junction (the first one). https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=making+oo+gauge+station+platforms
  2. Aldi & Lidl have a few items people may find useful. Aldi's digital caliper is useful for checking back to backs or you may have a use for the Lidl 6 socket extension lead. https://www.aldi.co.uk/c/2018-01-28?sort=popular&q=%3Apopular%3AtransactionalStatus%3Atransactional%3AtransactionalStatus%3Anontransactional%3AEvent%3ADIY&page=0 https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/Non-Food-Offers.htm?id=494&week=1

  4. I recently fitted Digitrains sound to my Dapol class 22 & verified with them that a 4 ohms double speaker was OK with the MX644D. The technical info that came in the decoder packaging said 4 ohms could be used also. It makes sense that if a 4 ohms impedance load is used, the audio output will be louder but the audio driver of the decoder will be driven harder & use more current. This obviously could cause the decoder temperature to get warmer. It may be prudent to reduce volume CV, as a precaution. The question is why would Zimo sell 4 ohm double speakers if their decoders couldn't handle it. THEY WOULDN'T!!!! http://www.zimo.at/web2010/products/lokdecoder_EN.htm
  5. Rails ebay site has Bachmann weathered class 20's for £69. +£2pp (£4pp on their own web site) & every little helps!!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-OO-32-034A-CLASS-20-141-BR-GREEN-WEATHERED-DIESEL-LOCOMOTIVE-NEW/192256826586?epid=2255348370&hash=item2cc3665cda:g:gDoAAOSwENhZdcr5
  6. I may be wrong but I think the decoder in this model can't be re-blown & Model Rail Magazine review said it was a disappointing sound version with no working lights. Edit
  7. I think dcc sounds are a matter of personal opinion, plus a variety of numerous variables. For instance, which speaker to use & where to fit it. If people want to go down the EM speaker route that's up to them. I personally think the Zimo Dumbo speakers are the way to go which ever retailer you get your sound scheme from. Steam sounds seem to be the most difficult to replicate, but with locoman & wheeltappers concentrating on steam sounds, they will get better. For me which ever sounds I get for my DP2, who can say " that doesn't sound right".
  8. Has anyone used YouChoos sounds. I've bought some stuff from them & their service is exemplary. I'm after a sound scheme for my Heljan DP2 (Class 50) Any thoughts or opinions?

  16. Thanks Porcy Mane. Looking at the picture,it looks like the 14x9x2.5mm Zimo MX622N will plug in no problem. What was the performance like using the Zimo MX622N?
  17. Has anyone on the forum fitted a Zimo MX622N to any of their engines. I'm thinking of getting one for my Heljan 05 shunter. I believe it would fit OK as the allocated space is apparently 33.5mm as mooted by the venerable pauliebanger elsewhere on the forum. At £20 it seems a reasonable price.
  18. Has anybody else seen on ebay that there's a SLW 24 ( D5098) for sale. As Charlton Heston said about his gun & taking it from his cold dead hand. The same applies to my SLW 24. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322383968770?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&fromMakeTrack=true
  19. I'm still designing my layout after returning to the hobby 4 year ago. I know you said you weren't fussed about designing your layout on computer but it may save a lot hassle in the long run. I tried a couple of computer layout design programs & found them a pain in the a** until I tried SCARM (SIMPLE COMPUTER AIDED RAILWAY MODELLER) which with a bit of perseverance found it very good & simple to use. It even can give you a parts list of track needed from a variety of manufacturers. Here's an example of one of my designs, which I keep changing. http://www.scarm.info/index.php
  20. Try looking at https://www.youtube.com/results?q=daves+model+railway. He has some entertaining, whimsical & brilliant ideas!!!
