  1. Just a thought, but are clearances OK for P4?
  2. Quite a challenge - especially east and south of Kirkby Bentinck, where much of the trackbed has been totally obliterated. Embankments have been demolished and cuttings filled in. Then there is the Robin Hood line.
  3. They are full of ice cream these days, so must be far tastier than they used to be.
  4. I think you are spot-on there Brian. I found a few photos of the 1949 model Plymouth club coupe, like this one Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
  5. Regarding other suggestions, the Hillman Minx has far too short a bonnet, though the general styling is similar (Rootes were notorious for copying American styling even before the Chrysler takeover). As for Peugeot, I haven't found anything similar. Their large saloons of the early 1950s had no boot like that, as far as I can see. American would be my best bet, but I can't find anything quite like it.
  6. Thanks for the suggestions. The Borgward is an interesting idea, but the shape is wrong, and the chrome waist strip too short. Definitely not the Vauxhall - here is a direct comparison We are looking at quite a large car. Also considered larger Rootes Group cars like Humbers, but not close enough to be those either.
  7. OK any idea what the car on the left is please? - Bit of an argument on another forum! What consensus there is suggests it may be American. It is part of a much larger, but poor quality photo, so I cannot enlarge it further without a large drop in quality.
  8. I too am in a threadbare state, but it doesn't stop me spending money on (model) railways. I just spread the cost over several years, like what the Government would do. Unlike me, the Government has the advantage of the multiplier effect - the fact that money spent goes round and round and round as firms and people spend the income they earn from major projects and pay taxes which then help to pay for another bit of the same project,,,,, and so on. The Government can also print money. I would like to try that too, but doubt if I would have the same success.
  9. More on Joseph Wright and the Metropolitan Railway Carriage & Wagon Company http://metcam.co.uk.nstempintl.com/history.htm http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Joseph_Wright_and_Sons
  10. Joseph Wright's business definitely was a predecessor of the Metropolitan C&W.
  11. Not meant to be a criticism, but I suspect if you brought out kits of Class 175 DMUs (for example) instead of pre-grouping stock, the profile of customers would be slightly different.
  12. This site gives the whole tale on re-elections http://www.nonleaguematters.co.uk/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=3506 At a quick count, Bradford Park Avenue only required re-election 4 times before their non-reelection in 1970. This site gives the totals - Hartlepools look to be far worse https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Re-election_%28Football_League%29
  13. May, Dupp & Co are my favourite bygone loco and rolling stock contractors. They were famous for (almost) copying existing designs from other manufacturers, but misplacing the odd rivet, adding 6" to the tender width or extending the chimney height by an inch or two, for example, to avoid copyright infringements. I managed to buy their entire portfolio of drawings and photos in an auction a few years ago. It will prove an invaluable source of inspiration once I get my own light railway off the ground.
  14. I will follow this with interest. It looks like a fantastic project in the making.

Just trying to be helpful - the placement of the signal seems too close to the track. See diagram HERE I don't want to detract from an excellent layout though. Its your layout, so your choice where things should go.
  16. How long before they play Livingston (formerly Meadowbank Thistle), who will only be one division above them next season?
  17. I have been puzzled for a long time as to why manufacturers never took the industrial steam market seriously. There ought to be huge interest in this model. Hopefully it will encourage manufacturers to try a few others, like Manning Wardles and Barclays for example.
  18. Bolsover is more or less due EAST of Chesterfield - other side of the M1
  19. Ref J1789 coke train. I wonder if the coke came from Basford Gas Works, which was just down the line from Bestwood Park Junction and sidings. Not sure when the gas works closed, but it was certainly open in the 1960s.
  20. Well done Sam Allardyce, more like!
  21. Definitely best to check the wheel back-to-backs before you start altering any trackwork. Otherwise, you can end up going round in circles, never finding the true problem. I speak from experience! Euston is looking really good. A timely reminder that I must get on with my little opus.
  22. Its always nice to get something running!
  23. The CIE was deeply entrenched in a railcar building programme anyway from 1948, with rather more conventional ideas in conjunction with AEC and Park Royal. "Diesel Dawn" by Colm Flanagan gives the details and is highly recommended. Model prototypes were generally built and finished to a very high quality and to a much larger scale than model railway models, as I hinted earlier. Meticulous detail would be included. See the various manufacturers' models in the NRM, for example. The models in this topic seem far more likely built by a modeller for model railway use, using adapted model railway parts.
