  1. Has the limited edition grown less limited, as for the purple WC?
  2. He's declinkering. It was very clean clinker.
  3. Hornby have smoke generators but Rapido can build a dragon that comes out of Ivor's chimney.
  4. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-64717605 Oops. There is an apocryphal tale of Central Line trains having to be redesigned because someone forgot to allow for the height of the rails, but that one's sadly not true.
  5. There's a story of a wartime (WW2, I think) express that put on full steam to reach the Severn Tunnel and escape a German plane, which mixes up the above stories even more. It's more believable as it doesn't claim any record-breaking speeds.
  6. I don't think the Maestro van is going to win that one.
  7. Does anyone know if 6024 is in running condition yet? A Manor, Hall, Castle and King would be one hell of a line-up at the gala, even if the King is very much a BR-era loco.
  8. I went to 6th form with an individual who told everyone that he had directed Raiders Of The Lost Ark. He even believed it himself. He was 17 and it was 1988. His name began Steven Sp- but it was most certainly not Spielberg.
  9. One day we'll get a 9F done as Murdoch from the Railway Series.
  10. That particular comment got far more "lols" than "likes". I'm still not sure if it's a parody.
  11. I have a few locos that are probably down to one pair of working pickups, like an otherwise immaculate Hornby King, because they hesitate over dead frogs despite having a long wheelbase. I really need to clean and adjust them.
  12. We're planning to do CS to Fort William this year, if we can get a ticket.
  13. The Gaugemaster controllers would be perfect if they (a) changed the vile colour scheme and (b) used terminals that could take thicker wire. You'd never get a decent bus wire into one of those.
  14. I used to work in Small Heath. I sympathise. We had a drive-by shooting one morning but opened the branch anyway, with bullet holes in the window!
  15. SVR have announced on Facebook that Taw Valley will be in SR (!) black with sunshine lettering this season. The comments from purists are quite hilarious. I think it will look great - if they could get the S15 back to run with it, even better.
  16. The Badminton line from Wootton Bassett to Bristol Parkway is basically Class 800 (Kato in N) and the odd Class 66 freight service (any livery would do). Bit of a boring line, though - no intermediate stations.
  17. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325536824911?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=BlQQix8UQVK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=NtG1_XQcQXK&var=514570017141&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I just bought some M7 brake rods from the seller. He has Castle rods but check the product code.
  18. How close is Firdaussi to Papyrus (as a possible identity swap)? It was built 5 years later, also as an A3. It's still scandalous that Papyrus was scrapped and we only have FS, which is a right mashup.
  19. OO should really have been taken out and shot decades ago but (especially in the days before CAD, when it was harder to shrink existing designs) the investment in design and tooling was too great for Hornby et al. It does seem odd that reviews pick out tiny errors on models while ignoring the elephant in the room. On the plus side, 4mm models look a bit more impressive than 3.5mm models.
  20. There is a new bit of CAD available now. The B17/5 is certainly odd-looking from the side - like a dumpy A4. It'll really stand out on any layout. https://uk.Hornby.com/community/blog-and-news/engine-shed/down-range
  21. The most infamous YouTuber of all has replicated the experiment and got the same result. The curves are just a little too long and a bit twisted.
  22. I'd be surprised if Jeremy Hosking makes much, if any, money out of his LSL fleet. It's probably a money pit, but he can afford it as a hobby. How much do you have to hire out a loco to pay for the next £1m heavy overhaul? No volunteer labour likely, as it would be done at commercial rates by Riley or similar.
  23. Konnie Huq, aka Mrs Charlie Brooker, is now on Pointless!
  24. To sort of answer my own question before Big Jim tells me I'm wrong...😄 A 66 can manage about 3000 tonnes, which is about 30-35 big ballast carriers. So three of them could mean a 100-wagon train. That would block a few junctions.
