I don't want to burst peoples bubbles, but the UK delivery date is now looking to be late February/March.
Makes you wonder how their retailers keep faith with them, let alone the general public.
Just for the record I have the 7 car set on order, and have had the new anticipated delivery confirmed by my retailer and via another source on the web, not Hornby.
at this point, im expecting Hornby to quietly cancel the model and to recall the coach packs and ndms

It's just a shame that more vehicles were not perserved at least one of each TS, TF and TU.
I think BR just wanted to wipe away any trace of the APT, hence why they were scrapped so quickly

So, given whats happened with the W1 model, im terrified about my 7 car set arriving in a trillion pieces

Now im kinda glad i never pre-ordered the W1, hope my APT doesn't arrive in a million bits thou. Also, so far, i've never had issue with Hermies other then a parcel arriving a date later then listed on there parcel tracking

Am i the only one counting down the days to when that email arrives telling you your pre-order is on its way

so, if the 7 car pack does have both NDMs powered, would it be wise to have both coupled to eachother for running in or do one NDM at a time?
-
i will admit though, the livery on the original model looks just as nice too

Certainly sounds like the 5 and 7 car packs are on the same boat.
fingers crossed aye?

take this with an entire 7 plank truck full of salt, but according to a comment made by Hornby on facebook, the main train packs are expected to arrive before Christmas

Are those Prototype HSTs a custom model?

My original 14 car set built from old sets uses the Pacer coupling between the two power cars to improve pick up.

And no-one can insist that @Erixtar1992 has to share the same opinion as others - it's one opinion, others may disagree, but it's still an opinion.
From what I have seen and I am not in the market for one, there are capacitors visible in the carriages, makes it look like a last minute change rather than something planned as people would not expect it on a premium model. Then there is the light bleed that some people are seeing, and Hornby have recent history here with the DVT, it shouldn't happen, wouldn't have been an issue if lighting had not been fitted but fitted as an afterthought rather than in the original design.
isn't light bleed fix-able using a few layers of black paint on the inside?

I conducted my own little experiment and let the capacitor sit and charge for 30secs, 1 min then 2 mins and there was no noticeable change in the lights going out almost immediately. It’s only got enough capacity to reduce flicker not eliminate it really so I’d agree pretty pointless. The only thing the experiment made me think is I wish they’d included a switch as it’s way too bright for daytime running! No worries I’ll just bend the contacts slightly off the wheels and not worry about hiding the cap as the tiny works quite nicely with the lights off.
i left my coaches on the track with full power for about 5-10 minutes, the capacitorb does work for 2-ish seconds after cutting power

I am planning to try and swap the bodies between the unpowered NDM and the powered NDM. The then non-powered 49004 will probably find its way to ebay.
Roy
in my case, the now unpowered 49004 spare, i'll probably just renumber it to the spare NDM 49007 since i plan on buying myself two more APTs later on done the line (370003 & 370004 and 370005 & 370006)
-
im really tempted to buy the NDM and use it for parts for the dummy NDM that comes with the 7 coach pack

Do the coaches pull apart easily ie very little resistance when coupled together?
no, but they do feel like they could roll over any second, although, they might of just been because i was using eurostar trailers with them

Something to note regarding the ball joint on the bogie, when coupling the coaches, there is no 'click' when doing so, meaning the whole train is held together by gravity alone. That kind of worries me since my layout plan includes a gradient and i fear the coaches my decouple due to it

Have you been able to open a coach and see if it is possible to move the capacitor into the toilet area? Is there space?
honestly, i dont dare to open it up, im a newbie when it comes to stuff like that

So, i've gone ahead and opened up the TRBS box and the capasitor on this one is hidden within the kitchen area, still visible through the window on that side

why does it need the capacitor if its drawing power from the track? like, the lights didn't even stay on when putting the controller to 0
-
And here are the lights in action (the e300 trailer and tractor are just there to help the thing set up straight)

Hornby APT (2020 tooling)
in Hornby
Posted
can i just say, when i pre-ordered my APT, the coaches were at £89.99, and when Hornby took payment for them, after the price increase mind you, they still only took the £90 per coach pack, so im hoping that they'll only take the money of the APT it was at when i pre-ordered (£484.99)
