I can imagine the likes of Futers, Denny, Jenkinson, Beal, Ahern and many more asking something similar at your age. There's natural talent however old or young you are, there's also the talent that can only come with age and experience. Hang on in there - and keep the posts coming...

  3. Has lost my modelling mojo. :( Need something to spark my interest off.

Bachmann's 2012 list in 1 month. Something on there may be the catalyst for a whole new layout.

  4. Still cant make my mind up if I should have a go at doing some N gauge. But where to start??

Full length trains on even the smallest layout looks brilliant, Its a tad cheaper than OO (RTR at least) too. Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it, DO IT!

n gauge is GREAT, just got our son his first N layout - 7' long by 22 " wide and we have been running 30 wagon modern coal trains, 9 coach steam specials and full length HSTs on it today!! The ability to have a loop using 12" radius and have everything go around it makes massive possibilities in even the smallest of spaces. My exhibition layout has a full branch line terminus station, goods facilities and an engine shed in only 4' length, its called Polpendra and was i...

It never does when you look at it, as you know all the bits that are wrong, that no one else will ever see.

Or you've made a c00ck up big style.

I know this feeling i've just put the wrong layer of paint on a building when it should have been something else first. As ozzyo says you are your own worst critic

I know what you mean its just a pain when you put so much time and effort into doing the job but when you look at it later and i think god that looks awful and get discouraged :(

  9. Temptation. Is working away on my current layout and is being tempted by other layouts/ trackplans :(

  10. Temptation. Is working away on my current layout and is being tempted by other layouts/ trackplans :(

  11. Is annoyed because everytime i lay ballast and glue it as the normal way it still comes loose :(

    1. cromptonnut

      cromptonnut

What proportions are you using - and is the room cold? It takes forever to dry in the cold. I usually have a fan blowing on its lowest setting across ballast drying, seems to speed it up no end. Not too high a fan setting though otherwise it'll just blow awy!

Bcause most of my layout is outdoors I have to use resin, that never moves!

    3. Earl Bathurst

Yea the room is cold. Will that have an effect on the glue?

Used the ballast tool looked good sprayed with water and washing liquid but when I put the glue on it kind of pooled and it moved all the ballast :( And doesn't look very good now

If you're not sure then consider other options like doing a normal degree. If you still want to teach after this then do a PGCE.

    3. PNEYorkshire

      PNEYorkshire

If you really want to do it then being poor is a worthy sacrifice. Spent the last 4 years being poor but at least it teaches you the real value of money!

    4. Revolution Mike

      Revolution Mike

Personally I would do a normal degree and a PGCE. I would also look at what subjects are shortage subjects (better grants/golden hellos etc). Ultimately you have to want to be a teacher - it is hard work, but rewarding if you can cope with it. (Don't believe myths that it is particularly poorly paid).

Practice makes perfect! Turning off this forum when you could be model making is my tip of the day. Th emost important thing is to make something, I see far too many people pontificating rather than doing.

  21. Im feeling very lazy and wants to go up the shed to do some modelling but cant be bothered :(

  24. Often wonders if there are many railway modellers in Swansea?

    1. RJS1977

      RJS1977

Given that there are at least 2 very well-established model railway shops in Swansea, there must be a decent modeller base there to support them.
