I was a Retained Firefighter back in 1975, it is a Fire Station Drill Tower back in those days there were no Bleepers / Alerters the siren operated during the day and an alarm bell operated in there houses on a night ( connected via a GPO line ) . The siren was tested once a week on Drill nights

  20. Turn right outside the station, under the railway bridge. Turn left into a cinder path running parallel to the railway. The entrance to this path is between a block of houses and the railway. Continue along this path and cross the road at the end. Another cinder path leads from the opposite side of this road to the shed. Walking time 15 minutes
