Have done some progress on upgrading the CAD files for the PABs, starting with the chassis. Starting wing doing upgrades that are common to both as-built and modified chassis, then concentrating on the modified.
The hopper bodies will also be improved, with finer detailing especially around the loading doors and vents. Also, vent positioning will be altered for the mirrored versions.
The end skirts for the modified wagons will also be refined, as will the walkways. The Gloucester pedestal suspenstion units will also be 3D printed this time.
Also, Ive decided on the next 3D printed wagon project, which will be TTA Chlorine tank wagons.

Looking beautiful! Love the bright shade of EWS red, may I ask if that is from a pre-made shade somewhere, or hand mixed?
In the photos it looks pleasingly much brighter than the somewhat-dull 'blood' Phoenix Paints shade!
Cheers,
James
Thank you!
The EWS is Railmatch acrylic. I think it's a close match to the shade Accurascale use aswell. Considering doing a couple more, but I'll hold off until Accurascale announce their Run 3 later this month!

The finished article, 37174.
Why did I choose 37174? Having seen a photo of it on the RTZ PAB wagons, I just had to have it.
Im already considering another, either 37410 or 37417 in EWS, but time will tell on that!
As per my other 2 Bachmann new tool 37s, Ive used Accurascale ploughs, and fitted the detail to one end.

37174 progressed a little more, some light weathering and varnish added, satin on the sides and matt on the roof...

Really liking how this layout is coming together!

Some progress! The 101 is slowly progressing, it's now been re-numbered, re-branded and had bufferbeam detail on both ends.
The 37 has come on leaps and bounds since the last update...
So now in it's full EWS livery, next up is varnish to seal the transfers, a light weathering and re-assembly.
This has to be one of my favourite re-sprays I've done to date.

A couple of bits done today...
Cut the front couplings off one of the 101 vehicles, and added some Westhill Wagon Works' excellent 3D printed buffer beam detailing.
Then, I primed the 37, and painted the yellow stripe along the bottom on the 37...
This will be roughly masked before applying the EWS gold, then rinse and repeat for the orange cantrail, before masking up and tying it all together with EWS red.
When this is wethered, I will finish a couple of small jobs for a mate of mine, then the airbrush will be put away for a while.

I'm looking at buying a resin 3D printer for various projects, and I'm considering re-doing these wagons with it. If I am to do it, I'll upgrade the CAD work for these wagons, by adding more detail, strength, and adding the Gloucester suspension units to the CAD. There's also a few corrections that I'll do.
I'll also look at other wagons, such as the Octel tanks.

I think that's everyone's dream layout shed! Very nice, glad this layout lives on.

Left the body in a vat of IPA over night, and this afternoon got all the paint off and washed in warm soapy water.
Next is primer. Then, orange for the cantrail, EWS gold for the main bodyside stripe, and yellow for the bottom reflective line will be rough painted on.
Following that, I will mask each of the above colour before the EWS red goes on. This is the first re-spray Ive done where all the main masking is done in one go, and on removing the masking the painting of the loco will be complete. Very handy that the yellow ends of the loco come off.

A last minute, spur of the moment project...
A Bachmann 37201, soon to become EWS 37174. This will be the first time I fully spray up the EWS livery, previous attempts have been using transfers for the lining.
So, after testing, I began the process of stripping the loco, and drop it into a vat of IPA!
The 101 project is still of course in the works, but is one I'll take some more time over.

Progressed a little on the 101 project, with the re-numbering and re-branding from Scotrail into Regional Railways.
Old Scotrail branding...
New Regional Railways branding.
I removed the old printing using a 2000 grit sanding pad, which will lift the printing but not go through the paint too much.
I have stuff on it's way for this unit, including bufferbeam details, buffers and new wheels.

Next project is a Lima upgrade jobby, a class 101. This unit will be re-numbered, re-wheeled, fitted with a replacement motor, additional pickups, detailed and fitted with lights. I'll also fit it with DCC.
Should be a nice project as the dark nights draw in.

Going to call 37401 done. Despite yesterday's setback, I'm very happy with how it's turned out!
Yesterday, when the balls-up occured, I thought this project wasn't going to be finished, but with some determination, the phoenix rose from the flames!

Following a disaster involving thinners, I've re-sprayed the patch painting, this time got a bettee shade aswell.
I will re-apply the EWS red, then I'm back on track. Looking at photos, this loco won't need too much weathering.
Sometimes setbacks happen, but the solution is usually much better.

Another update on 37401, first thing was to experiment with the lighter shade of red that I applied. I decided to put a black wash on to see if it would help...
...which I think was pretty successful!
After that, I decided to add the EWS red patches on the other side.
You can see the difference in the lighter shade of maroon between the photos, I think the black wash has done the trick. This side will of course also get the treatment, then it's just the rest of the weathering.

Today, I applied the lighter shade onto 37401, which is Vallejo Game Nocturnal Red. Firstly, I masked the loco by using photos as reference. Don't think it's 100%, but I've got it close enough for me. I used Tamiya masking tape and Vallejo's liquid mask.
The lighter shade is a bit too light in some lighting conditions, but the weathering process and the varnish will hopefully tone it down.
Next up is the couple of patches of EWS red one one side only, then it's weathering, which will be a mix of washes, powders and airbrush work.

Another purchase = another project!
Subject of this project is Kernow's exclusive 37401 by Bachmann.
I'll be depicting 401 in it's 2007 condition, being scruffy Royal Scotsman claret, without it's nameplates and RS crests, and a patchy paintwork.
After checking the loco over, I got to work removing nameplates, data panels and RS crests. I did this using a cocktail stick, rubbing the printing with pretty much crumbles off. I then applied the etched EWS beasties that are supplied with the model, being careful about the angle which I apply them at.
I then had a session with my Tamiya panel line wash, going over the entire loco.
Even as the loco is, with various printing elements removed, etched beasties on and a bit of basic wash weathering, it looks quite good!
Next job will be to apply the patchy paintwork, which I will do my best to replicate using photos.
Here it is alongside it's EWS stablemate, 37422. Having not originally not intended to buy Bachmann models, they've beaten Accurascale to the EWS /4s, but I look forwards to see if Accurascale will offer some maroon and gold tractors in their next next run. The Bachmann and Accurascale 37s sit well together.
Thanks for looking!

Good idea using a Posca pen for the orange cantrail. I wouldn’t have thought of that! Which nib do you use?The rake looks great!
Thanks!
Not sure on the sizeof the nib, but it's fairy chunky. Used the side of it, which gave a tidy finish.

Loving the progress with the ATW mk2/3's. They look really good! Do you have. alayout where they will be running on? Assuming traction will be TnT 57's?
Thanks! I have a small roundy-roundy at the moment just to run trains, but have plans for a north Wales based layout in the future.

One of the Mk2 TSOs and the BSO has now had transfers applied!
Transfers are a combination of Precision Decals and Railtec.
In other news, the class 60 has been finished, after the spare lining turned up this morning. Just to re-install the wipers and light lenses and it'll be ready to go!

Some progress on the WAG set. Roofs and ends have been painted with Revell No9 'Anthracite'...
Then, the cantrail on the Mk2s were painted using an orange Posca pen, leaving a very tidy finish. They have been glossed, ready for transfers to be applied.
Hopefully over the next week or so, these and the class 60 will be completed, making way for the next three projects.
Next up for myself will be Kernow's exclusive 37401, which I will rework into it's 2008 condition. I'll also be re-numbering a DRS 66 and installing decoders into two Bachmann 2mt's, which are projects for friends.
Thanks

Revolution Trains announce Class 175 'Coradia' and Class 180 'Adelante' DMUs in N & OO Gauge.

These look very good, I'm sure the OO versions will look every bit as good! I'm guessing the Barbie versions of the OO 175s and 180s won't be done at all?
