  1. It occurs that this is the only "sloped" cliff along the whole North Thanet coast... Could there be something buried!?
  2. Could they contain navigation equipment? Again, you'd be stuck if you wanted to inspect or maintain them...
  3. The objects on the sand are large chunks of concrete, been there over 35 years to my knowledge. The aquarium was large but really not much more than you'd see in your local aquatic pet store, very small tanks with (if my childhood memory serves) freshwater fish.
  4. Here's a close up: The timber doesn't appear to have any fixings, it's a real puzzle.
  5. Here's an older aerial shot, you can just make out one of the boxes - the other is out of frame.
  6. The cliff edge here is actually more of an embankment - it's hard to find a photo online from the beach side...
  7. It is the clifftop at Walpole Bay, the inland side was a large cafeteria, bandstand and aquarium circa 1970s - this structure was several yards from these boxes and the cliff.
  8. Id like to open this particular enquiry out to a wider audience: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/162742-little-things/&do=findComment&comment=4408803 Thinking caps on, I am absolutely stumped....
  9. Anyone care to venture a guess as to what these brick constructions are? They are sited on a clifftop promenade about thirty yards apart, adjacent to the cliff edge railing - they have no vents, doors or access on any side, the top slab is also featureless. On the side facing away from the sea, just under the slab, there is a section of timber set into the brickwork. My initial thought was possibly a pedestal for coin operated binoculars (a common sight along the shore line) but there is no evidence that anything was ever fitted to the top slab. If it were some sort of junction box, then surely an access door would be necessary....
  10. Just a quick interjection, could these be used on 'N' Gauge stock?
  11. Blurry phone pics again, but looking thru my binocs I can make out "Bartok" A heavily loaded container vessel alongside some sort of excavator (?) Typically, the day I bring my binoculars none of the ships are very close to shore here at Foreness Bay.
  12. The turntable has been there for donkeys years, the house is a stone's throw from the Hornby factory (maybe the house belonged to an inventive employee?) I remember a much smaller car being parked on it when I was a kid - Triumph or Singer, something like that. There was a box on a stick with a stop/go button on it too.
  13. Cheers, thank you - a very eye-catching vessel!
  14. Sorry for the pic quality, I spied this bright orange ship off of Cliftonville today - I'm curious to know what it might be? I'll try and pop back tomorrow with binoculars and hope it's still there...
  15. Beautiful little bungalow complete with single glazed (possibly original) windows and a vintage van in the drive, if you ignore the enormous Tesco and Bannatyne's looming over it and the non stop traffic - you could be in the 1950s! This garage backs onto an extremely busy main road (I used to live a few doors down, and the noise only lets up between 3 and 4 am!) One resident's solution to avoid backing out into rush hour traffic? - a turntable:
  16. Copydex gets my vote, after years of using PVA I am converted! In my experience definitely quieter.
  17. Ok, but that does seem like the costs could all add up - even before a controller is factored in....
  18. No, it's really the most basic of basic models - thank you for the suggestion though. I put a generous blob of vaseline on each propeller shaft, where it meets the motor housing. The housings are plastic "pods" on the underside of the hull - I can see these being a problem in the future.
  19. Would this make me unwelcome with other users at boating pools!?
