  1. Last chance to organise travel to the event - It starts tomorrow! A map of the show, and few images related to previous events See you there!
  2. Found out about this BRM project this morning, and contemplating weather to join in or not as I have got 2 layouts going at the moment. So here's an idea that may or may not come to light. My only O gauge loco is a Hunslet 0-6-0 brought from a charity shop in Dorchester for £10, possibly the best model railway bargain ever? anyways, after the great news about the loco 'Newstead' being discovered in 2016, it has always stayed in my mind as a concrete memory in railway preservation history, for the hope that more locos are hidden away. This cake box idea will contain my loco in a dark and dingy shed, where Newstead was found. Possibly some figures including the nun who contacted the Small Loco Group at the Nene Valley Railway, where Newstead now lives. So yeah, don't expect much but I thought the idea seems pretty relevant to current news.
  3. Light board added and hung up, a bit warped but hoping to put hot towels and a few books over it! 1 week away, probably the last update till after the exhibition
  4. i did advertise your layout on the facebook page, the problem is most layouts attending arn't on RMWeb, so I can't find many pictures of the layouts attending!
  5. I'm part of the club and have tried to boost the post but its not doing anything. I am trying to boost the Facebook posts about it but not much better over there. Info: The Weymouth Model Railway Exhibition is a week away! on the 28th and 29th of October, over 30 layouts of all gauges will be on display for the public to come and admire, take photos, and ask the owners questions or have a general chat. Everything from N gauge to live steam displays and modelling demonstration stands will be part of the experience. The show also contains a restaurant, serving full meals on site. A large parking area is available for people travelling far, but there is also public transport close by with Buses just outside the school grounds and a railway station (Upwey) just up the road. This event is wheelchair friendly and a great day out for the children too. We will be looking forward to seeing you!
  6. until

    2 Weeks to go!
  7. Its not my first, I've been twice before actually. I displayed a Thomas & Friends layout as I always noticed an absence of child friendly layouts at exhibitions. So I got a picnic table and made a railway on it. Raising over £150 for the National Autistic Society over those 2 years was well worth it. I also got other thomas modelers to come along as a small gathering.
  8. The layout has under a month until its first exhibition at Weymouth, So more jobs are progressing as we come nearer! Template for the front board which will hold the light and layout name I brought a long 28 watt light as the area I normally have my layout is often dim, So this should work a treat for viewing! Various station progress Various yard progress Pictures taken of Weymouth shop fronts for the backscene. Makes me more proud of the backscene and will be an easteregg for the locals!
  9. Yeah i'm still here and still loving the layouts progress, some houses are being built right next to the line on the Portland Castle side but besides that the trackbed is still a great walk! Have you ever been down to Portland and seen the old station site?
  10. Yeah I always knew that Nellie was based on a OO gauge counterpart, just never seen an exact copy in O gauge! The trucks manage to go over the point well. Thanks for the nice comments!
  11. After exactly a month I thought I should give an update: Baseboards: The ironing board was originally fitted to a large chipboard piece of wood. This was way to heavy for moving so i've refitted the adjustable legs on to a Plywood board which is much lighter. Fitting this to the layout baseboard will be easy but need to cut some easy spaces just before that. Trackwork: Unfortunately the pair of points I brought broke - A section of rail lost power where the wires are embedded in the plastic so taking it apart ruined it. I brought some scratchbuilt points which are a left handed point so I actually have the right type of points this time! The track has been temporarily pinned down so I can prop it up against the wall. It was awkward using my bedroom with most of the gangway being taken up by the ironing board! Using a spare piece of MDF board, I have managed to create the small wagon turntable that will eventually lead into the warehouse. It will be heavily modified ofcourse but anything better than paying £20 for some plastic crap! Rolling Stock: 2 LMS wagons were purchased from Ebay for £20 stating that they were pre-war...does that mean the age or the livery they are in? non the less they need to be cleaned up but i have already taken off the peeling paint from the wheels. Scenery: Now the scenery is the last of my concerns at the moment but I brought some brick sheets from Pecorama and decided to have a try at building the warehouse. With careful measurements using a ruler and a tin can cover, a great result turned out as seen in the picture below. The brick card sheets must have has some leakage in the mould as all the corners don't quite match up correctly, but this can be fixed later on when it is a bigger concern.
  12. A short update - The layout at the club last night!
  13. Sorry for no updates, but work on the layout has improved a lot! *Yard and station track ballasted *Hills covered in greenery *Shrubs around the layout *Goods shed rood replaced and painted *Hill behind station foundations laid and covered in grass *backscenes painted and awaiting scenery *Huntley and Palmers loco replaced with name 'Gwen'
  14. Today the wagon arrived...and I loved it! It came in the kit box which got me worried, but no, its has been constructed, painted, weathered, and even decals added! £39 is great as a few pounds extra than the kit in pieces, I love it. The Police Box has had 9 coats of paint no joke and still looks like an undercoat, not sure whats the problem but will leave it for a bit! when painted will whiten out the windows and telephone box flap. I've also been using the Dremel (and buggered up an old one!) to cut down the awkward rail lengths, now all the rails meet up to each other very well. Here, the clearance is shown between stock at the points. The track that the loco is on can very tightly fit 4 box vans into it with the buffers on! And lastly for the baseboard. First do excuse the drawings on the board, that's from a previous project! The boards have been screwed together by metal plates which work very well. The board is hollow, so the ironing board parts can't go straight into the board, as tested and failed today, so I will have to get some thick light wood other than the chipboard before hand to make sure the layout is as light as possible. More on this to come soon!
  15. Yesterday I went along to Pecorama to find potential building ideas and their O gauge layouts in their permanent exhibition. They have a small branch line terminus but are now building an O gauge Wharf/Canal layout which I'm really pleased with as I'm building something very similar! A factory/warehouse which I will build a similar replica of but made out of brick card. Retaining walls which I might used for the scenic break to the fiddleyard. Lighten up buffers are always a charm! Here's the plastic card i'm likely to use. On the branch line layout now, and I'm really interested in this yard crane however its £20! So I will see what I can do if I come across a OO gauge one Stone wall brick card which I will likely use for the quay wall along the front of the layout. A small shunter, Nellie. Don't know the make but seems the right size for my layout! A wagon turntable which I need one of however is again going to cost me £20, I can happily scratch build one thank you very much. That night I got home to an ironing board sitting outside my bedroom door, which came from the skip! Really nice condition but the legs fold out one at a time which will be a pain. I reveaved the £20 points through the post aswell but upon opening found the middle sleepers have broken off! It is annoying but not to worry however as I can put them back on loosely but it will be under poly filler soon anyways. I also was buying a left handed point however you can't tell but its a Y ended point! Not what I had planned Yeah the Photoshop got a bit tedious so its a bit rough here... And this leads me to my current position, laying the track down trying to figure how it will all work. The wooden baseboards will be sorted out soon just currently figuring it out. I need to borrow the Dremel from Grandad to cut the track to the right sizes and I have been cleaning up all the muck from the rails, they work perfectly now!
  16. I went out today hoping that I win the auction, and I have! I brought a GW brown box van for £39, which is the most I would pay for rolling stock, however it looks to be in a agreat condition, great weathering and decals added. Its shown to be kit built but don't know what make it is, but looks plastic. In the next few days the points should arrive, the Police box will be painted (I've given it about 8 coats and still quite bright and lots of different shades!), and the ironing board should arrive from the skip. Friends of my step-dad work there so they have been on the lookout for one that isn't asbestos, but metal ones come in quite common.
  17. I don't think there are any in O gauge size! I am looking into little Easter eggs however, with graffiti stating "Bad Wolf" and a poster for "Vote Saxon".
  18. Happy to find this page, loved seeing it at the Exeter model show, a different view on mixing the gauges and offers a lot of potential!
  19. I have managed to purchase the point I was watching, most of the time on an Ebay auction I ask to buy it now rather than a long wait time, and it hasn't ever failed. These points were £13 but with postage up to £20, even though it could be a small parcel costing £3 Will be delivered by next week. I'm bored at my desk and noticed an item that I always put out but never used, and finally found a use to it. My other hobby is Doctor Who and about 10 years ago made this 'shaker maker' TARDIS that just so happens to be O gauge, or just looks in proportion to the figure size. Its made out of something similar to poly filler, so there are minor scrapes and dents but nothing to worry about as its just a background item. Here's the box from Google Images, the loco shows its atleast 10 years old.
  20. O gauge has put me off due to the size and cost, but luckily the loco as mentioned cost around £10, and the track has been donated to me from my model club, the Weymouth MRA which have the layout 'Connaught Road'. The track looks like it doesn't work but a few odd bits of solder is a little fuss, its mainly paint on the sleepers that's all. I have found a point for just under £20, so that's hopefully another "bargain" in the making! The loco came with rusted wheels and parts with glue runs. However, with a fiberglass pen the rust has almost completely been removed, and all parts taken off for the time being. The loco came black with red nameplates "Ring Haw" on them but decided to change it green as I generally find black smart, but very bland. The nameplates are long overdue to return!
  21. For Christmas my grandad greeted me with my first O gauge locomotive, a 0-6-0 saddle tank which cost him £10 from a charity shop! After 8 months of only running it at the club, I thought it was time to make a home layout for it. However, being only 16 and already building a OO layout, there wasn't much room to make one in. With a little research I have come to the conclusion to set myself a challenge for the summer to create a 4ft micro layout on an ironing board. My OO layout was mainly for testing all the modelling as I havent done it before, but this O gauge layout will be a great opportunity to try scenics I was to affraid to do on my first project: * Polyfiller *Static Grass *Water *Weathering Poweders *Automatic Winches The rest can speak for itself...
  22. To be honest i'm no bus spotter, so can't be too accurate, however researching Portland for 5 years has gotten me some info! Brian Jacksons book of "The Isle Of Portland Vol. 3 road transport is mainly about buses and will most likely feature that. I say most likely because its at hoke and i'm currently on holiday! will comment it when I get back. Good luck for the move!
  23. Yeah the photo of the bus is on Flickr with I believe Portland Bill on it. However, it will look out of place with the era you are modelling. First buses were new back then (well, atleast one pf the double deckers hasnt been renovated since the 80s).
  24. I've went to Pecorama on Sunday to find out that they don't make short radius electrofrog points (new to 009!) so I picked up a pair of dead frog points. I feel it's needed to have extra pickups on a truck. Also found the engine i'm buying too! but only £3 cheaper. I've tested what someone else did and space out the n gauge sleepers which looks good but wont do again as the sleepers are obviously smaller than the 009 ones. I've also found a box at dad's full of workers! They had no use to me before but now they are perfect and include a wide range of common characters. I've forgot to cut the wood that the track will be laid on but I'm on holiday for a week so that won't be coming for a long time!
  25. Can someone please tell me to paint colour of the blue on the Huntly and Palmers loco? I've removed the lettering successful however there are a few spots of black!
