  1. Looking very smart, those end half compartments are unusual and as you say, desirable....
  2. Once again, superb observation and execution....!
  3. Presumably achieved as shown here - Never noticed a real life example before..
  4. Duncan, The stock book specifically uses the word renumbered and as it is the NG stock book, the presumption has to be it was already standard gauge. Buffers were sprung and Stephen is correct in his assumption of 3' springs Chris
  5. As Stephen alludes, 28841 was a Covered Goods from lot 269, so not that. 26841 was originally West Cornwall Railway wagon No. 201 built in 1874 and renumbered by GWR in 1878. It was condemned in 1896. Body dimensions were 11' 8" long, 7' 2" wide and 2' 0" high. Wheelbase was 6'
  6. 56933 - Lot 383, built Aug 1902 56975 - Lot 336, built Dec 1900
  7. Mea Culpa - quite correct it was Swansea not Swanage - confused by the capital C in the line below making it look like a g....
  8. Ex CMR N0 214 - Body 11' long, 6'9" wide and 2'6" high, wood underframe (not flitched), 3' wheels with 6' 6" wheelbase. Wagon Stock Book records buffers as changed to self contained, but no date, 12 Ton load and as built recorded as 4.15.2 weight. Built by Swanage Wagon Co. in 1874, renumbered into GWR in Oct 1878 and condemned at St Blazey in April 1914.
  9. Another fantastic build and thanks for documenting and sharing the resources that helped you. Will be revisiting the sheet ones at the very least...
  10. 3 plank underframe history from the GWR Lot Book - First 4 Lots, some 700 wagons are built with Iron Frames Next Lot, 200 wagons built with wooden frames and Iron solebar plates (Flitched) Next 2 Lots, 400 wagons, back to Iron Frames One Lot of 100 wagons with Wooden Frames One Lot of 100 with Iron Frames One Lot of 200 wagons built with wooden frames and Iron solebar plates (Flitched) One Lot of 200 with Iron Frames Next 2 Lots, 250 wagons, back to Wooden Frames with 50 being marked as "Various sizes" in the Order Book Remaining 26 lots of 4660 wagons on Iron Frames, of which 3310 were built with straight ends and including 50 with Iron Bodies. There's also 400 BG convertibles in that list. just to add to the fun.... Now the question to actually ask is why did they build the wooden and flitched underframes???
  11. Yes, definitely a water crane and almost certainly some form of colour light signal
  12. Mike, You may not be Rembrandt, but I would be happy to have achieved that end result.... Chris
  13. Wagon Stock has this to say about 35015 - As Compound stated, built to Lot 239, this wagon was completed on 10th Sept 1881 at Swindon and lasted until 23rd March 1912. It had a wooden body and wooden frame, with no mention of flitch plates in the stock book. No changes to axle boxes, brakes or other aspects of the build recorded in the stock book

  15. What a wonderful photo, thanks for digging it out! 29382 (BG 2002) described as an Iron Tilt. Converted in Feb 1876 and condemned in Sept 1896, so the date of the photo is somewhat suspect......
